| Legomojo06-08-07, 01:19 AM | Well, my last post got me thinking, that I find it useful and fun to have more than 2 arms. But most are outsiders. Which then leaves your range of templates narrow. Few questions I throw out to you all. 1. Is there a way to get more arms? 2. How many non-outsiders have 3 or more arms? And who are these creatures? 3. Any good Power Play techniques or Master Monster Maker tips you want to share to the masses? So.... feel free to answer.... I lvoe when I get my posts commented on.... makes me happy, and its a learning experience people! :D |
| sensestaker06-08-07, 01:29 AM | The spell Girallon's Blessing from SS gives you +2 arms per 4 caster levels. If you kave multiple pairs of arms, but don't use them much, the spell Fuse Arms, also from SS, gives you +4 to STR for each pair of arms that it fuses together. Combine the two and you get a hell of a beatstick. :D |
| LoneStranger06-08-07, 01:34 AM | The only way I know to get more arms is from a template in the Sword and Sorcery book Creature Collection III. With that though the number of arms depends on the size of the creature and you get a level adjustment and so on. However I don't know of any non-outsiders that have multiple limbs nor do I know a way to get more arms outside of a wish spell other than character generation. |
| burntgerbil06-08-07, 01:50 AM | Thri kreen from xph have a total lvl adj of + 4 and that very same number of arms... |
| G_Mancer06-08-07, 01:55 AM | Thri kreen from xph have a total lvl adj of + 4 and that very same number of arms... to clarify, they have LA of 2, and 2 mon-humanoid Hit dice, which give 2d8 HP, +2 BAB and good reflexes and will saves(+0,+3,+3). 4 thumbs up |
| AAB06-08-07, 02:01 AM | the 3.0 PrC Fang of Lolth from Song and Silence (i think, not 100% sure) eventually gave you 2 more arms/legs (you could use them both ways) but you pretty much turned into a big gross spider person. |
| Orchomenos06-08-07, 08:28 AM | Some Sahuagins have 4 arms. But Sahuagins are aquatic, so you would have to find a way of breathing air... I saw a multi-arm template somewhere, I think for each arm you add one racial HD. So a 4-arms human would now be a 3HD humanoid. Since usually creature HD are weaker than class HD, it sounds balanced... |
| Threefists06-08-07, 08:31 AM | If you're going to use the Girallon's Blessing/Fuse Arms technique for multiple arms (I did this on a Half-Ogre Mage I was playing....use the Oversized Two Weapon Fighting Feat when fighting with 4 Bastard Swords...plus whirlwind.....was like a bipedal blender....mind you the bastard of a thing used the Force of Personality feat (see below) and had a Charisma of 18, so...) you'll need a high will-save, either through classes or feats/items/high ability scores. Quoting a section of the Girallon's Blessing Spell: The new limbs can be confusing. In a stressful or demanding situation, such as combat, the subject must make a Will save (DC19) or take a -2 penalty on all attack rolls, saves, skill checks and ability checks until the situation passes. So for the purposes of using this, you'll either want a High Wisdom, or if using a class that requires Charisma, the use of the Force of Personality (Use Charisma bonus instead of Will bonus to add to Will saves.) (I cannot recall where this Feat was originally published, or the Steadfast Determination feat from the Players Handbook II, which uses your Con modifier instead of your Wis modifier for bonuses to Will Saves. |
| snakeman83006-08-07, 09:20 AM | Thankfully, somebody already mentioned Thri-keen Athatches are abberations in the MM with three arms. Also, the Insectile template in Savage Species adds four more arms, but they cannot be used to make attacks. In Oriental Adventures, there's a template (only applicable to humanoids) that gives options. One of the options is having up to eight arms. Unfortunatley, there's no LA listed for the template and I can garuntee it's not a LA +0. |
| Legomojo06-08-07, 10:04 AM | ARMS NOT USED FOR ATTACKS?!? I'm going to look that up. I need to find that Multi-arm template. Anyone know where to look? Coupled with the multi-head template, that could be devastating. |
| nighttree06-08-07, 10:08 AM | There is an "Oba blessed" template that can give you two or four extra arms....I'll have to look at my notes to remember where I saw it. Nighttree |

| nighttree06-08-07, 10:28 AM | Correction....that's "Obah-blessed creature" Dungeon #136 (pg 60-61) Basically a +2 LA for two extra arms, Multi weapon fighting as a bonus feat, and a Grapple bonus. +3 LA add's two-more arms (total 4) and some really nice ability mods. |
| Majick06-08-07, 11:51 AM | what mods? do tell :D |
| Legomojo06-08-07, 12:07 PM | ANTHROPOMORPH GIANT SQUID HAS 14 ARMS! WTF!!! THAT SOOO MANY SWORDS!!! |

| bobothechimp06-08-07, 02:41 PM | Anthropomorpic giant squid has eight arms, not 14. |
| TheDragonmaster06-08-07, 02:58 PM | The Classical Races are: Thri-Kreen (Psionic or Nonpsionic have different LA) and Anthromorphic Creature (Squid, Giant Squid, Octopus or Giant Octopus). The problem with the squid/octopi is that they are aquatic, and thus breathes water. For a more expensive idea, think Xorn. 3 arms and a bite (see below) [XPH, SS]. As for templates, for a fully 3.5 official non-Dragon/-Dungeon source, use the Aberrant Limbs (Arms). Multiheaded grants Perfect Two-Weapon Fighting, which is always good [DMG2]. Feat/Item: Deepspawn (requires Aberration Blood) gives two tentacle attacks. Combine with Gloves of Man and you have two more arms [LoM, SS]. A bite attack (such as the one the thri-kreen has) can be used to wield a Mouthpick Weapon, effectively granting an extra arm for weapon use [LoM]. And as for a use: Take MWF, IMWF and GMWF for many attacks, combine with Stormguard Warrior and you can reach thousands of damage at level 20 [MM, SS, ToB]. |
| Gabriel Knight5206-08-07, 06:11 PM | Seriously, anyone know what mods it grants you? the +3 LA one? How much can you quote directly from Dungeon Magazine within the forum rules? If its okay I could post the mods. :) |
| nighttree06-08-07, 09:23 PM | I don't think it is....which is why I didn't :D But they are pretty GOOD (just call me a tease) |
| EpicEvokerElf06-08-07, 10:37 PM | Check out the humanoid squid thread on this page. It has a total of 10 arms, not all fully functional, but they can be improved. Read it and PEACH, mortals! |
| Mai_ariti06-09-07, 11:56 AM | There is a unique NPC entry for a person with another set of limbs in the DMG2. That might help a bit. |
| TheDragonmaster06-11-07, 07:34 AM | There is a unique NPC entry for a person with another set of limbs in the DMG2. That might help a bit. Aberrant Limbs (Arms), CR +1 for NPC's, and LA +2 for PC's... Warning, don't listen to me! Also, advisable only if you play a Science Fantasy setting (don't), pick the Mutation Extra Arms from d20 Future... Told you not to listen... |
| Lawkeeper06-11-07, 08:34 AM | Seriously, anyone know what mods it grants you? the +3 LA one? The LA+2 gives Str+2, Dex+4, Con+2, Cha+4 (IIRC). And an additional pair of arms. And a bonus feat to use weapons with all these. The LA+3 gives +4/+6/+4/+6 respectively, in addition to a second additional pair of arms. Work that on a three-kreen, to get eigth arms.:D |
| Steely_Dan06-11-07, 08:41 AM | Aberrant Limbs (Arms), CR +1 for NPC's, and LA +2 for PC's... And Multi-Weapon Fighting for free. |

| Lawkeeper06-11-07, 12:07 PM | And a "grapple" bonus.........:D Yup, +8 in the second case. On a Thri-Kreen, stats are at Str +6, Dex +10, Con +4, Wis +2, Int -2. LA+5 off course, but that's still impressive ! Add in three levels of rogue, three levels of ninja, short swords in all eight hands, a 28 Dexterity, 18 Strength (counting a 18 base dex, 12 base strength), Improved Multi-Weapon Fighting, Improved Finesse. ECL of that PC ? 13, which gives a starting 110.000gp ; enough to build eight +1 flaming-or-frost-or-shock-or-the-like shortswords (8*8310gp = 66.480gp), a belt of giant strength +4, a pair of +4 gloves of dexterity (16.000gp each - bringing his Dex and Str at 32 and 22 respectively). You're facing a real monster which will probably win initiative and be able to move 40ft during the surprise round (or approaching while invisible to actually get the surprise, if the fight did not already start), making sixteen attacks as a full round action, half of which at +6+11+1-2=+16, the other half at +11. One of these attacks deals 1d6(sword)+2d6 (sneak attack)+2d6 (sudden strike)+1d6 (fire/frost/shock/etc)+6 (strength)+1 (enhancement) = 6d6+7 ; the other fifteen deal 6d6+4 only. On average, assuming all of these attacks hit (I know, it's optimist, but it's for the show), he (or it) will deal 28+25*15 = 403 points of damage. At only 13th-ECL.:D |
| Andyr06-11-07, 03:28 PM | Chitines (from Underdark) have 4 arms. |

Actually, two of the attacks deal the higher damage, and fourteen the lower, increasing your total to 406 points of damage... :P |
| Lawkeeper06-13-07, 01:14 PM | Actually, two of the attacks deal the higher damage, and fourteen the lower, increasing your total to 406 points of damage... :P Actually, the average is even higher, as I didn't count the statistical critical hits : with short swords, it's one-in-ten strike. Well, actually I didn't count the statistical miss either, so let's call it even. The best part in having multiple arms, is really that you can wield multiple different weapons : bludgeonning/piercing/slashing, indeed, but also material-wise (cold iron, silver, adamantine, etc) or enchantment-wise (like the various energy damage). No matter the foe, you'll always have some weapon that will be able to pass his DR or resistance. |

Well, actually facoring in Hit/Miss and Crit Chances makes the average damage a function of the enemy's AC, and that's not as overseeable (nonexistant word?). Without feats like WF, it can be done, sure, but otherwise it seems a bit odd... or wonderful even with, combined with Tempest (if tweaked a bit for MWF). |

Indeed, that's why I didn't compute it.;) Besides, I do not know if "overseeable" exists, but we all understand its meaning. Is that really advisable? Without feats like WF, it can be done, sure, but otherwise it seems a bit odd... or wonderful even with, combined with Tempest (if tweaked a bit for MWF). As long as you don't mess with your penalties according to your weapon sizes, I don't see a problem there. There are many useful feats that do not depend on only one type of weapon, so I usually find the Weapon Focus chain of feats less useful, except as entry ways into, for example, the Dervish PrC. |
