Need a race for a RP style char idea. [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-24-08, 06:29 AM Were doing the Worlds largest dungeon as mentioned before, and char turnovers can be high in there at times so started thinking of a idea for my next char if my catfolk spellthief dies so that I'm not holding up the party making a new on. I have a interesting idea for the char, but since the DM isn't allowing Drow in the current campaign but said he might allow them later I need a race that might fit the idea.

The basic idea for the char is a Rogue 1/ranger 3+/Master of many forms X. He start out as rogue...due to the part needing a thief char to find traps and such, then ranger for a few levels taking the Wildshape variant untill he's high enough to have alertness/endurance for the Master of Many Forms requirement and then take master untill 7-10 and then go back most likly to ranger.

Thats the layout for the char class wise, but story wise I was thinking of a drow like drow that would either get a bad reaction from the party, or be something that would want to keep it's true identity hidden for what ever reason.

In the original idea he was likly a neutral drow of some kind, not nescarily evil, but not good either, more disatisfied with the life and such and found himself more at home with animals/monsters of the world then his own race so wandered away from where they live in the dungeon and roamed the halls, using his ability to take other animals, or humanoid forms to blend in with what ever race or species was in a given region. When first bumping into the party he show up as a goblin, bugbear or some sort of indigenous race.

The fun part would be playing the char trying to hide his identity and keep his abilities hidden untill forced too and then trying to downplay them, see how long it takes the rest of the party to figure out the truth about the char. I figured it be interesting roleplaying and create more then just okay new room, is there monsters in it? Yes kill them, no search a few times for any traps or treasure then move on.

As said the DM isn't allowing Drow, but did say this might be a fun char idea for another campaign, but I'm curious if there be any other race that could fit the build and might be allowed? I had thought of something like a dragon that would keep it's identity hidden to avoid either being hated by the party or dealing with buggings or such. So doesn't have to be evil, or hated, but would need a good reason to hide what it was from the party.

02-24-08, 06:48 AM Hypothetically, you could try using the PHB elf (with cosmetic changes) to represent a drow, or use the LA+0 drow variant in Player's Guide to Faerun, if the DM's rationale for banning drow is more a mechanical reason than a flavour one.

Hated by party membrs *one of wich is a dwarf right now* usually evil variant. heh so for simplicity he's just banned them outright and I had cleared up a few of his concerns but since he had disallowed them when other players had asked he felt it just fair to keep the ban on them for the duration of the campaign.

Heh I can probably use it in another campaign, but was just wondering if any races that might fit the build here. Heh it's a fun enough idea I love to try it out, and being the parties trap finder...and with my rolls usually by falling into them...figured might as well plan ahead.

02-25-08, 01:35 AM I guess an orc could work. Not accepted in civilzed areas, and isn't happy with the way orcs communities work.

02-25-08, 11:26 AM One really horrific looking human (Quasimodo). You don't necessarily need a "race" to pull off your concept. You could shoehorn in the concept to a standard race.
