I recently got my friend into the game. Basically Im looknig for a good race that basically would help with RAWR i hit you with my size L greatsword. (basically good Strength mods) but id prefer no level hit or nothing too complicate d like "eral Half orc Undead Zombie Dragon Skeleotn orc quatic elf" no tempaltes or anything

Right now the best ive found in the books is straight Orc. Our group doesnt have dragons or anything, jsut most of the hardcover books

any help would be much obliged.

Human. I always answer human to any question on "what race should I play?" around here. The bonus feat makes the game more forgiving about bad feat choices, and the skill points help other kinds of builds too.

Anyways, human or half-orc. Don't do dwarf, it's got too many complex abilities, and orc is typically not a good PC race depending on your campaign (it's just fine in Eberron, poor choice in Forgotten Realms, and so on). I would, once more, recommend human, because the abilities it grants are static, it grants a new player the option to try out more feats, and it allows the expert player to meet prerequisites faster.

If you have no clue what race to play, the answer is almost always "human."

Oh cool! If he wants that and NO LA, check out my Hill Orcs! (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=811764)

They are basically an improvement on Half Orcs with a vastly different fluff. If you can handle a LA +1 get Goliaths from th races of stone.

This is all if you want to use Large sized weapons.

If you don't like these, I suggest using a home rule on monkey grip feat in the Complete Warrior but make the negative only -1; -2 is just too much mathematically for a feat.

For one thing, don't use a size L greatsword unless you have some way to be size L. Monkey Grip is not a very good feat, especially compared with Power Attack.

Assuming you're going Barbarian, human is a pretty decent choice. Depending upon the campaign, an orc might be decent, or it might be pretty awful. There is at least one variant orc in Unearthed Arcana that doesn't get the penalty in bright lights.

If you're using LA buyoff, your options go up some (unless you're starting from really low level anyway).
