| DnDsnd07-08-07, 09:17 PM | Please evaluate this new race the Kalgeshi (http://dndsnd.pbwiki.com/Kalgeshi) |
| Nall_The_Azure_Guardian07-09-07, 12:05 AM | Needs a higher LA The fact that it gets +2 to two stats alone probably warrants the +1 LA Planeshift should ba another +1 at the least, imho. I would say at least a +2 LA depending on how useful plane shift is in your setting. |
| Captain_Kobold07-09-07, 09:09 AM | Things might be aided if you copied the racial details to the boards: After reading the race description, my immediate thought was "Drow, who've spread out through the planes." What are these other Worlds that the Kalgeshi have colonised? Are they Outsiders or Humanoids? Kalgeshi Racial Traits -2 con, +2 Int, +2 Wis: Cruel and hauntingly graceful, highly cunning. Medium: As medium creatures, Kalgeshi have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size. Speed: Kalgeshi base speed is 30. Languages: High Kalgeshi, Low Kalgeshi, Common, Abyssal Weapon Proficiency: Kalgeshi receive martial weapon proficiency in all swords and simple weapons. Armor Proficiency: Proficient in all armors (master work only). +2 racial bonus to Craft (Alchemy), Intimidate, Knowledge (Arcana), Knowledge (Planes), Spellcraft Feat: Bind Outsider Plane Shift 1/day +1 level adjustment Favored Class: Wizard Are the languages listed Automatic or Bonus languages? I agree with Nall about the LA points he made. All of the bonus stats, bonus feats, plus all of the skill bonuses are probably worth more than +1 LA. Giving a 1HD race a level 5/7 spell they can cast, even just 1/day is a bit skewy. I would suggest if you must give them the ability to shift planes, that it takes a day of meditation (no activity). The Kalgashi can then shift to a plane he is familiar with along with a Light load of equipment. When shifting back, he can only aim to arrive at place he left. This is still a bad ability for a PC race to have, but less immediately gamewrecking. I would remove the Bind Outsider feat (see miy comments on it below) and replace it with a +4 bonus on opposed charisma or diplomacy checks against Outsiders, and allowing a Kalgashi with the leadership feat to take ECL-approriate Outsiders as cohorts. Bind Outsider feat: Change this to an Item Creation feat: The binding an outsider into temporary service is already covered by the Planar Binding spells. Permanent service as a cohort is covered by the Leadership feat. An Outsider summoned by a summon monster spell does not stay on the plane long enough for a fraction of the negotiations, let alone any sevices or use of the item. This feat allows a character with the appropriate item creation feat to create magical items by binding an outsider to an object, instead of the normal process of enchantment. Require a sacrifice of items worth 3/4 of the Market price of the item as imbued. Require loss of XP equivalent to 1/25th of the market price. These costs replace the usual monetary and XP costs of creating the item. Use of this feat requires access to a Planar Binding spell of appropriate power. This can be provided by a different character, or even by a scroll. It needs a bit of fleshing out, but this seems more reasonable as a feat. |
| DnDsnd07-09-07, 01:26 PM | Thank you I will adjust the LA. I would consider the Kageshi to be human, as a race they have advanced for as over 7,000 years and because of the influence and insight from from outsiders they have gained an edge over traditional humans and moved beyond the limits of other humans The Kalgeshi life expectancy is equal to that of Dwarves. I am currently building a larger background story about them and their home world at this time. I do not consider them outsiders but that may change. Any more input is much appreciated. I have place all the comments I have had into my notes again Thank you I also like the explanation of the feat and will adjust accordingly |
| DnDsnd07-09-07, 04:32 PM | This is the new fix on bind outsider let me know if this is more balanced Bind Outsider (Item creation feat) You are skilled at binding Outsiders to Items Prerequisites: 5th level Benefit: Use of this feat requires a planar binding or planar ally spell of appropriate power. This can be provided by a different character, or even by a scroll. This feat allows a character with the appropriate item creation feat to create magical items by binding an outsider to an object, instead of the normal process of enchantment. These magic items are always intelligent do to the method of creation. Scrolls, potions, wands and some stave's (items with charges) are unable to be created in this method because they cannot create a permanent bond, wondrous items depend on whether they are one shot items, wondrous items like figurines are usually the creature bound to them and are summoned in the same way as the figurine. The base price is equal to the cost of the planar binding or planar ally spell level x 750 gp x caster level. Binding the summoned creature takes 1 day for each 1000 gp in price to bind them item you must spend 1/25 of the item's price in XP. Using planar binding is extremely dangerous and appropriate steps should be taken as explained in the planar binding spell these are all extra costs. It is also important to way the risks and rewards of this type of magic item creation your character my well die. You must ask yourself if this is worth creating and intelligent item. Planar ally is entirely a different matter they are generally good in nature and you would be require to perform a great service or quest in their stead. They are being ask to be bound to an item for ever after all and some may see this as a way to fight evil and may agree to the request, if they do not then your time, energy and gold was wasted. |
