Bonus Languages: Any Space/Reach: 5 feet/5 feet Light Blindness: Abrupt exposure to bright light (such as sunlight or a daylight spell) blinds the Battle Shadow for 5 rounds. On subsequent rounds, they are dazzled as long as they remain in the affected area. -9 on hide checks if not in shadowy areas, if the character/monster is in a shadowy area then the hide check is +5 -9 on spot checks if not in shadowy areas, if the character/monster is in a shadowy area then the spot check is normal A Battle Shadow’s base land speed is 40 feet Darkvision out to 30 feet Favored Class: Barbarian LA:+0 Is it balanced? |
| Sexy_ferret09-28-07, 09:25 PM | Im going to have to say no. The stat adjustment alone is over powered and weird. Most Stat adjustments are installed in even numbers. Second the extra movement puts it over the top. The light blindness isnt a decent negative for its abilites since it can easly over come it by 1 smiple feat. blind fighting. It atleast needs a LA of 1 or 2 |
| Sapphirefear09-29-07, 08:42 AM | Okay fine. Battle Shadow +7 STR -5 INT +3 CON Size: Medium Automatic Languages: Undercommon. Bonus Languages: Any Space/Reach: 5 feet/5 feet Light Blindness: Abrupt exposure to bright light (such as sunlight or a daylight spell) blinds the Battle Shadow for 10 rounds. On subsequent rounds, they are dazzled as long as they remain in the affected area. -9 on hide checks if not in shadowy areas, if the character/monster is in a shadowy area then the hide check is normal -9 on spot checks if not in shadowy areas, if the character/monster is in a shadowy area then the spot check is normal Cannot take the blind fight feat A Battle Shadow’s base land speed is 30 feet Darkvision out to 30 feet Favored Class: Barbarian LA:+0 How about now? |
| ArochanoX09-29-07, 12:18 PM | What does this race do? Be a abruptly dark creature that is so dark that everyone can see it easily in daylight and normally in shadowy illumination? Why does it gain so enormous strenght and constitution modifiers? If you want such modifiers, think trying a stonechild (races of stone) that basically is a crossbreed of a goliath and earth elemental. Is this battle shadow tied to the plane of shadow in some way? I can give you (approximation of) a LA +1 "battle shadowish" creature. But without knowing what it actually is, I can just toy with the excisting mechanics. Str +4, Con +2, Int -2 Medium humanoid (extraplanar) Speed: 40ft Light sensitivity: Battle Shadow is dazzled in bright light (such as sunlight). This can be overcome with a feat. Superior low-light vision: Battle Shadow can see 4 times as far as human in shadowy illumination. Darkvision 60ft +4 bonus on hide checks when in dark areas. Favored Class: Martial Rogue (sneak attack switched to fighter bonus feat) Automatic Languages: Undercommon Bonus Languages: Common, Terran, Draconic, Dwarven, Elvish, Gnomish Level Adjustment +1 This is basically a combination of a toned-down dark creature template and toned-up half-orc. |
| Xiuhcoatl09-29-07, 09:37 PM | Ability stat modifiers are never odd numbers. They are always even numbers. Racial bonuses are always even numbers. |
| WinglessDemon10-01-07, 08:03 AM | would have to agree, change those mods to even numbers and stick a +1 on there. You also need to feed us some back ground info on these guys. do they look like shadows? humans? what? some horrible twisted apportion? |
