This is a sub-race of the Panynx, a race I created for my home-brewed world. I would really like to know what people think. I want real criticism, from other players and DMs. What you like or don’t like about the race, what you think should be changed, and any other suggestions you may have.

STONEFANG PANYNX

Personality: Stonefang Panynx tend to be more obnoxious then their Wildmane kin, and unlike the Wildmane they are physically tougher. Like all Panynx, Stonefang are very proud of their people and hold their traditions of mountaineering in high regards, Stonefang have a saying “ A mountain is only an obstical if you let it be.”. Stonefang panynx, are driven by a disire to climb and explore the highest or most dangerous mountains. Stonefang Panynx are slow to make friend, only the dwarves seem truly friendly with the Stonefang, they are quick to make enemies and often will stop at nothing to take out an enemy. When a non-dwarf does make friends with a Stonefang Panynx they have made an ally that would sooner die then let them down. Stonefang Panynx are free-spirited and adventurous, and spend a lot of time exploring and climbing any mountain face that catches their fancy.

Physical Description: Stonefang Panynx males have muscular bodies and typical stand between 5'0" and just over 6'6", and weigh from 125 to 185 pounds. Females also have muscular builds and stand between 4'5" and 5'8" but rarely any taller, and weigh from 100 to 130 pounds .All Stonefang Panynx are covered in a very fine soft fur, Stonefang Panynx fur can range in color from a deep grey to a deep brown, but is always whitish grey on the chest and abdomen regions and unlike Wildmane, Stonefang Panynx have no black pattern along their neck, shoulders, and back. Their hair colors range from black, dark grey, or brown. Stonefang Panynx have cat like ears, males have large flat noses, while females have thin flat noses, their mouths are somewhat cat like. A Stonefang Panynx’s eyes are cat like and come in all colors but are most commonly greyish blue or light blue. Stonefang Panynx are not as graceful and agile as Wildmane. Stonefang prefer heavy warm clothing that is comfortable, most often their cloths are made of hide and fur and are colored in greys, browns and tan to help camouflage them. A Stonefang reaches adulthood at about 20 years of age and can live to be more then 125 years old.

Relations: Stonefang Panynx have a long lasting friendship and alliance with the dwarves, often serving as scouts and watchman for dwarven mines and strongholds. Stonefang Panynx love the carefree nature of the elves and half-elves. Stonefang Panynx are amazed by Humans ability to adapt to any environment. Halflings are looked down upon, seen as physically inferior a nickname often used by Stonefang Panynx for halflings is “mouseling”. Gnomes are often admired for their keen minds and skills, but like halflings are thought of as weak. Njálsbrandurs are admired for their courage, but because of their size are considered inferior. Half-Orcs and Orc-elves are treated just as full blood Orcs would be, with open disdain, they are rarely trusted and almost never welcome.

I'll warn you I'm biased against anthropomorphic animals they tend to rub me the wrong way usually. Looks like you have a thought-out description and decent stats, though. A few comments.

You have them getting +2 Con and +2 to Fortitude saves. That's very front-loaded. +2 to all fort saves is very much like them getting a bonus feat for free (Great Fortitude). Not quite as good, but it's a comparable bonus. I suggest giving them The "Acclimated" racial ability instead (just like Goliaths). Acclimated races don't take the penalties described in the Mountain Travel section on page 90 of the DMG.

Low-light vision and Darkvision? You don't see that very often, it seems like the development team intended for it to be one or the other and not both (aside from some very magical races i.e., dragons). You may want to rethink this. The crucial question to ask, is "Well, do they spend most of their time outside or underground?"

Other than that, it looks really good! If you wanted to give them anything more, you could give them a +2 racial bonus to Jump checks perhaps, another useful skill in hilly and mountainous terrain.

Got any drawings or other art you could share with us?

I had originally thought about making it +2 Fort saves against High altitudes.

I just can't decide, but if I really had to choose, I’d go with Darkvision 60ft.

Yes, and No. Yes, I have drawling of the Wildmane Panynx. No, I haven't gotten around to doing ones for the Stonefang Panynx.
