| Demonlord_Slayer805-09-07, 05:13 PM | Another one of my creations. :cloud9: Vulpin folk are a race that are simply like overgrown foxes with vaugley humanoid features that stand upright, wear clothes, and have humanoid intelligence. They live in forest, in small den communities. They come in shades of red, silver, black, white, or Tan. They typically have blue, green, or yellow eyes. They have no diety of thier own, but they most often worship Olidamarra, god of theives, and Ehlonna, woodland goddess. A very small number venerate Obad-Hai. Others worship other dieties, or some don't worship any in paticular. However: Evil ones commonly worship one of the lords of the Abyss, or Erythnul, god of slaughter, although a few might worship others as well. Most VulpinFolk are good or neutral, and the majority is chaotic, while fewer are neutral or lawful. Racial Traits: - +2 Wisdom, -2 Intelligence Vulpin and vigilant and thoughtful, but do to thier closeness to animal kin, they do not yet have an average intelligence to match that of Humans and other humanoid kin. - Monstrous Humanoid: Because they have more animal than humanoid features, they have more closeness to the wild. They are immune to spell that affect regular humanoids, such as Charm person. - Medium Size -Base Land Speed 30 feet - +2 Listen, Spot, and Intimadate checks. Foxes are natural hunters, and some of this is also true of VulpinFolk. - +2 on Hide and Move Silently Checks. - +1 Natural Armor - Automatic Languages: Common + Sylvan Bonus: Elven, Draconic, Gnoll - Favored Class: Ranger - Level Adjustment: +0 All comments welcome. :bounce: |

| DarkRhystar05-09-07, 05:27 PM | It's only more than LA +0 if you consider the fact that it's Monstrous Humanoid which gives it proficiency with all simple weapons and Darkvision 60'. Switch the type to Humanoid, give it low-light vision, drop the +2 Listen/Spot/Intimidate bonus to +1, and it's good to go I think. |
| Neutronium_Dragon05-09-07, 09:30 PM | MH isn't that big of a deal, really. You're immune to a few humanoid-only things (but most of those aren't commonly used against the PCs and even when they are are so narrow in scope that it's not much of an issue), and you get Darkvision, but simple weapon proficiency is basically a non-factor given that any class which doesn't get it to start with either isn't going to make any real use out of it or has better alternatives available anyway. I think it's okay mechanically, although the skill bonuses are probably too much padding. The problem with it is more that it's... well... boring. It's basically a bunch of generic bonuses to a few skills and stats, without anything that particularly gives it color. I'd suggest axing most of the skill bonuses (just because something is a hunter doesn't mean it needs spot/listen/move silently/hide bonuses, and intimidate doesn't seem to have any real reason to be in there) and give them some other trait or traits which are more interesting or at least more variable than a flat bonus. Humans get about 3 feats worth of abilities. +1 natural armor is a feat worth, MH type is maybe a feat worth (or a bit less). +2 Wis/-2 Int is okay as a stat tradeoff (because anyone who really benefits from Wis is going to find an Int penalty to be a pain in the neck for its effects on skill points). So that gives you about a feat worth of room to add something else significant, and if you want to toss in a couple of largely-cosmetic benefits (maybe they get +2 to Perform with a particular type of performance that their culture favors, or +2 to Craft with something that they make a lot of) as well then that's fine too. |
| Misaru05-09-07, 10:24 PM | 1) I'd drop the skills to include Listen, Move Silently and Hide. I'm not sure Foxes have extraordinary sight, or what the Intimidate this is about. Most of the PHB have an average of about skills anyways. 2) If your fox-men need to wear armor, I wouldn't think they would have thick enough hide to say they have a natural armor bonus. 3) Since the natural armor thing was scratched, we definitely need something else that add something special to the class, like dwarven stonecunning or elven secret door detection. 4) Since they are Monstrous Humanoids, you might want to add a natural attack, most likely 2 claw attacks a 1d4. 5) I would add a few more bonus languages. The core races have about 5 or 6, so add something like Gnome and/or Abyssal (eastern mythology sees the fox in a bit of a devilish light). 6) Hope that's specific enough. |
