Ok me and my group are all DMs now and I want them to get some knowledge on DM so we decide to come up with are our campaige world. The first thing we decided to do is give the core starting races some flare and add one new race each. I will be asking for help in keeping these at +0LA. so I'm posting mine here and my players will be posting their's or I'll post them to see what everone thinks. We each pick two of the starting races. Mine our halfling, half-orc, and I'm choosing to add some flare to the kobolds and make them more played. Thanks ahead of time.

So halfling is stay the same as the PHB one but I'm ading that the way the halflings are raised up in our world they are train from birth almost to find traps and so I add finding traps as a rogue does and limiting the DC to 30. So they can search for any trap of 30 or below instead of the normal 20.

For half-orc I'm adding the berserker str from PHBII. Using character level instead of bar level. and will put the 11th and 20th up upgrades that can be gain as feats at 11th and 20th characters.

Now kobolds; first they are more in to army building and rogue skills then the reg kobolds, so I'm take a-2 of str minus and taking the mining thing off too. Then adding in sneak attack at +1d6 and we will add some feats to where they can upgrade that every so often.

But I was thinking that that I could change them to be like the DW kobolds and count as dragons and give the more HD as they age. Starting at muture adult they would have to gain a HD and would have to gain 2 HD every age cat after that. gain spells at old as a first level sorc and gain spells every age cat after that at +1 per age cat after old to a max off 5th.
Now the first part is a most but I want the 2nd pat to be added to but don't know if the imun to slepp and par would up it to +1 LA or not. We don't allow starting at a higher age so the rest wouldn't be gained before leveling.

So what do you think? thanks again! I ether have them post on here or I'll just post it for them.

I'm not sure if you're trying to up the power of PC races across the board, or keep them at the same level with some tweaks.

Half-Orcs could stand to be pumped up a bit without throwing off balance, but IMO giving them the prime trait of barbarians as a freebie and leveling it up is a major boon, worth a significant + to LA. And what if they are barbarians? Do they get nothing or a double bonus, both are imbalancing. Giving them something more like "Scent" would probably keep them in check.

Halflings are fairly well balanced as is, but a minor trapfinding ability could work... but you'd probably have to take something away (i.e., the +1 to all saves) unless your intention is to increase the power level of all races across the board. Anothing option to consider is giving them the ability to make an automatic search check if they pass withing 5' of a trap... similar to the way elves detect secret doors. I'd still limit it to DC20 or less unless the character had the TRAPFINDING abiliy from a class.

You're talking about adding HD to kolbolds as they age... this counts towards the character's level, and even dragon HD is poor in comparison to class levels. Imm to sleep & Paralysis shouldn't bump them a LA since they start off fairly pathetic to begin with.

Something you might want to consider, in Unearthed Arcana they give rules for Gesalt Classes... alot of what you want to do seems as if it could be solved by creeating a set of RACIAL GESALTS. In otherwords every half-orc gain Barbarian levels plus levels in their chosen class, every halfling gains Rogue + one Class, every Kolbold gains Sorcerer plus one class. You can simply use their favored class as the "Default" Gesalt Class. Then give some races (all all) a prestige class option (or requirement after x level) that they can use instead of the core class... in your example kolbolds would either get to change to (or have to change to) Dragon Disciple.

Just my $0.02, use what works for you.

The half orc would only gain the leveling at a higher level then normal. and we were thing of change bar to that on rage any way say they would stack just over lap. Yes we want to keep it at about the same power level. What if I took away the +2 str? I can't take anything else away because they don't have any thing else that is worth taking. I thought it would be like their orc half taking over. The leveling up with the feats not by level the PC so if they where taking levels in bar they would even bother with the feats. And they wouldn't be able to use some class features just like real rage abilities.

Halfling: I think I'll take the +1 to attacks on thrown weapons.

Kobolds: I could up the spell casting to 2 max 10. They would still be getting fighter BAB and all good saves. I didn't want it to be overwelming. What if I added a breath weapon and keeped the casting as is? I don't want themm to be like another type but a dragon them self so I'll have to think of a good breath for them. Maybe a cone of slowing gas? slowing for 1d4 rounds. (Upon gaining their first HD, not at the start.)

One of my player willcall her player 2 untill she gets an account on here.

Hers are Gnome; human; and she is going with some kind of Anthropomorphic animal but has not chosen it yet.

Human:She is taking away they +4 skill points to start and adding gain plus 4 skills as class skills.

Gnome: She is thinking of adding a animal comp ( borrowing mammal) but not the druid abilities that they give to them. Then they would get the special AC things on that animal if they became druids. She is also change their favored class to druid. She is thinking of getting rid of the rest of the spell like abilities expet the talking to borrowing mammals one.

Anthropomorphic animal: She is not sure yet which and would like some suggestion. She is thinking about horse, wolf, gaint crocodile, and brown bears. She would still have to down grade to non LA abilities. Any ideas or suggestion are welcome.
