| Rondulin04-01-07, 01:13 PM | Edit: Changed according to comments below. CREATING A HALF-FEY “Half-fey” is an inherited template that can be added to any living, corporeal, humanoid creature (referred to hereafter as the base creature). A half-fey uses all the base creature’s statistics and special abilities except as noted here. Do not recalculate the creature’s Hit Dice, base attack bonus, saves, or skill points if its type changes. Size and Type: The creature’s type and size remains unchanged. Spell-Like Abilities: A half-fey with a Wisdom score of 11 or higher has the following spell-like abilities: 1/day—detect animals or plants, faerie fire, speak with animals. Caster level 1st; save DC 10 + half-fey’s Wis modifier + spell level. Special Qualities: A half-fey has all the special qualities of the base creature, plus the following special qualities. • Low-light vision. • +2 racial bonus on Will saving throws against enchantment effects • +2 racial bonus on saving throws against poison • Damage reduction: 5/cold iron. • A half-fey’s natural weapons are treated as cold iron weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. • Wild empathy: This power works like the druid’s wild empathy class feature, except that a half-fey has a +2 racial bonus on the check. Abilities: Increase from the base creature as follows: Dex +2, Cha +2 Challenge Rating: As base creature +1. Alignment: Usually good. Level Adjustment: Same as base creature +1. |

If you're set on only having 1 LA, you need only take the first of the two LA. The biggest differences between that one and yours are that yours doesn't mess with the type and that yours has a huge amount of damage reduction which may as well be 10/- for the number of monsters that carry cold iron weapons. |
| Pangeon04-01-07, 10:26 PM | I actually really like this template. I've seen the official Half-Fey, and I don't much care for the templates that give giant lists of SLAs. Good job. I'd make the creature's SLAs based on Charisma, not Wisdom. And, yeah. the DR here is pretty nice, but that alone doesn't warrant a +2 LA. This is a little good for LA +1, though. Maybe tone down the DR to a straight 5/Cold Iron, and call it a night. |

Well, the reason I chose Wisdom is that fey (dryad and nymphs) also use Wisdom for their spell-like abilities (at least for the spell DC calculation). And, yeah. the DR here is pretty nice, but that alone doesn't warrant a +2 LA. This is a little good for LA +1, though. Maybe tone down the DR to a straight 5/Cold Iron, and call it a night. Changed. I disliked the 10/cold iron anyway. The reason I used it anyway was that I'v seen other templates (celectial) scale their DR. |
