| Mark_Aged09-06-07, 11:33 PM | Okay, made a modification awhile ago of Return of the Flumph's Lilim template that can be found here: http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=13206198&postcount=20 But I wasn't really happy with my mod (Krakencle, link in my sig). So, here's my new version. You may notice that it doesn't have an LA, what do you think the LA should be? I'm really bad at thinking of LAs. Anyway, here it is, tell me what you think of it: Not a lot is know about the powerful creatures know as Krakencle. Legend has it that they served a powerful unnamed god, who was said to have 1000 powerful tentacles, but he was cast in to the void by another god, where he was to stay for all eternity. He then went mad, and some how came to to contact with the rest of the world, telling his followers to do what ever they please, and offered powerful beings, beggars, commoners, royalty, anyone he could find the powers his followers had, for no reason what so ever. It is said the same god who banished him to to the void cut of his connection with the world, leaving him there for the rest of his immortal life. Krakencle Krakencle (Named after Kraken because it is said their tentacles are as powerful as a baby Kraken's) are hard to tell apart from normal beings, for the only physical thing different between Krakencle and other beings is they have tentacles, that are covered in sharp spikes in their chest, but they can have them out or hide them in their bodies at will, and all their other abilities are innate, so you can only really tell them apart from the rest when they are in combat. They are very charming, but like their god in a lesser form, aren't really smart. On the other hand, this makes them not really know what fear is. And as a side note, the tentacles can't pick up or hold things. Anything but Constructs, Elementals, and Undead with less then 7 Intelligent can become a Krakencle. Ability Scores: -4 Intelligent, +6 Charisma, +4 Strength, -4 Wisdom Alignment: Any Attacks: Base creature gains four tentacle attacks that deal bludgeoning and slashing damage. Each tentacle has reach and base damage, that is determined by size: Size Damage Reach Small 1d2 5 ft Medium 1d3 10 ft Large 1d4 20 ft Huge 1d6 30 ft Gargant 1d8 50 ft Colossal 1d12 80 ft Level Adjustment: +4 LA Saving Throws: Immune to fear effects. Skills: Climb +2* Swim +2* Special Abilities: Improved Grab, Constrict, Suggestion Type: Change to aberration. Hit die type, attack bonus, saves, and skill points are unchanged. Improved Grab (Ex): If it hits a creature one size category larger than itself or smaller with a tentacle attack, a Krakencle can attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking attacks of opportunity. If it gets a hold, it can constrict. Constrict (Ex): A creature grabbled by a Krakencle takes automatic tentacle damage each round the hold is maintained. Suggestion (Su): A Krakencle can cause a maddening gust of emotion to a single creature within thirty feet, such as happiness, fear, or anger. This is otherwise identical to a suggestion spell. The save DC is charisma based. *When the base creature has it's tentacles out, it receives a +2 on Climb and Swim checks. |

| AtsuiShoto09-12-07, 10:11 AM | +4 or +5 LA. You get reach and some pretty potent extra attacks. Those together are worth +2. You also get the abberation type and immunity to fear. These are worth another +1. You also get Improved Grab and Constrict, which added to the extra attacks are worth another +1. The Suggestion ability, because it's tied to the heavily boosted Charisma, is pretty potent, and the grappling tentacles are boosted by the Strength bonus. The low Intelligence is a bit of a setback (but not so much, because using the Krakencle's most potent abilities leaves no actions available for using skills, anyway). Overall, the ability scores are not "balanced", and in fact synergize nicely with the rest of the creature's attributes, so they could tack another +1 on, but once you're at +4, adding more is getting just plain debilitating. So there you have it: +4 or +5. I think playtesting will reveal that +5 leaves a paper tiger at best, a worthless pushover at worst. I vote +4. |
| Mark_Aged09-12-07, 11:42 AM | That much? Well, power can't always be measured in gp... I'll make it +4 LA unless someone else makes a good point of why it shouldn't be. |
