Opinions: LA for Demons [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-02-08, 01:42 AM I put together Alot of savage progressions for Demon characters afew months ago, and I was wanting to get some opinions on these LA's if you thought I was being to generous or just a scrooge. Thx for opinions (my players did think I was being to rough on the Balor, but it's a BALOR.)

As of right now the campaign has been going through in an old 2nd edition Blood Wars setting. Party stands with 1 Dretch, 1 Succubus, 3 Vrocks (I let them discuss what races they wanted to be) 1 Glabrezu and 1 Marilith (almost had a Balor). Another player is about to do a Spin off campaign.

Pretty much I was just wondering if anyone thought I was being generous on the LA's or if I put some of them to high. If it appears I put them to high I might cut down there progressions, but I wanted peoples opinions before I start cutting progressions down. So please what do you think of these LA's when you look inside the Monster Manual.

Monster Manual LA+HD=Total
Dretch - 2+2=4
Quasit - 2+3=5
Succubus - 6+6=12
Babau - 7+7=14
Vrock - 8+10=18
Hezrou - 9+10=19
Glabrezu - 12+12=24
Nalfeshnee - 14+14=28
Marilith - 16+16=32
Balor - 20+20=40

Eventually I'm going to give them each there own plane and let them fight it out also hopefully

Edit: added in there HD and total level before they can take classes.

02-02-08, 02:39 AM Succubus - 6totally worth it.
add levels hexblade (or paladin of shaughter. or both :devil: )
you get charm monster at will (a DC that normal ECL12 wizards don't get) and when you start doing stuff with your killer charisma, you'll be really on a role :D

02-02-08, 02:59 AM I probly should of put the HD for the total level progression up there to.

02-02-08, 12:27 PM Dont use Level Adjustment. There is no reason why a 20 hit dice creature would advance as a 40th level creature. Its just not logical. It also makes it nearly impossible to advance, (YOU try finding sufficient CR encounters to waste), and is just a big mess.

Nice to see players are trying to roleplay Balors. I played one once, but I prefer something a bit lesser, like an Incubus (Male succubus :D).

04-08-08, 12:12 AM Yeah, a lot of the LA's are really on the high side. I mean, the way WotC handles things, LA seems to go up exponentially - LA +2 is more than twice as good as LA +1, and LA +3 is usually pretty hardcore. Even a Balor should be under LA +10, I think.

04-08-08, 04:28 AM Well, some of them already have LA. The succubus does, at least.

I think that some are indeed incredibly high. Especially the Balor's. I mean, it's a CR 20 creature, and up there an ECL 40. He would never get to level up, because every creature that could give him XP (ECL 30-50) would be so much more powerful they would kill him in just a few turns.
