Ogrebear 04-11-07, 09:01 AM	I was mulling a new D&D world a few pints with some mates and we where discussing the idea of having Grummish and his pantheon all dead after one too many wars on the other races the other gods, Epic Heroes etc had taken down the Last Orcish Horde and their Gods. In their place we where thinking of having the Orcish race be spiritually directionless for a while until some of the other Gods picked them up as worshippers; mostly this would be the more evil gods, but we where mulling the idea that a more disciplined chunk of the Horde (more LE than CE) where converted to Kord... his portfolio with strength, discipline and proving yourself seemed to fit an Orcish mindset. In the years since Kord worship has spread amongst the Orcs leading most of them towards Neutrality leading to a very different relationship between the Orcs and the 'civilized' races. I am still considering what that relationship is. How likely does this seem? and how would Kord worshipping Orcs get on with the civilized world?
Enderlaand 04-11-07, 10:41 AM	That seems totally reasonable to me. I can't think of a reason why any race can't change its general alignment tendencies, given enough time. Orcs who worship Kord, and have a non-evil alignment would probably blend into 'good' society, again, given enough time to overcome the prejudices created by previous wars.

Return of the Flumph 04-11-07, 03:02 PM	Once the remaining prejudices die down, the orcs will probably move in a couple of directions. Some, do to interacting with other, more civilized, Kord worshippers, might give up their hunter/gatherer/raider lifestyle and become agrarian...or even civilized. Others would continue to live in the wilderness as tribes, but would become less hostile, trading with the other races and perhaps hiring themselves out as scouts, guides, and caravan guards instead of raiding.
AMGriffin 04-11-07, 05:15 PM	Yeah, if orcs were to convert to any "good" pantheon Kord is the best choice. Within a few generations of orcs, they'd probably have gotten over their hatred of other races and became less hostile, but I doubt that orcs would lose their "only the strong survive" Mindset, they'd just not be as vicious or cruel. So basically warcraft orcs would be the result.

I did suggested a more disciplined group of Orcs leaning more towards lawful evil than chaotic evil lead their kin towards Kord who's chaotic good nature is a good fit for them, I wasn't thinking of a wholesale conversion. We where taking into account their old OD&D-AD&D2nd LE alignment and thinking that some of the surviving leaders might be more LE than CE; more brains than brawn if you will.

But why would a group of leaders lead their people to a deity whose alignment is opposite theirs? I don't know that you need a group like that to do it. Seems to me like Kord would become a natural choice for any CN or the rare good-aligned orcs after their pantheon is gone. Maybe you could have a group of more educated/"civilized" half-orcs lead the way? They could have learned about Kord more easily and decided to help some of their half-brethren.
