| Mic03-23-07, 12:34 PM | So I kind of dislike the current image of the elves, being regular humanoids and all the subraces there are. I'm planning on turning them into real fey instead of the semi-fey status they have right now. I'd like this new elf race to be an LA +1 but I feel it may be a little short on earning it: Elves #fey type #+2 Dexterity, -2 Constitution -> Elves are agile but fragile #Medium: As Medium creatures, elves have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size. #Elf base land speed is 30 feet. #Immunity to magic sleep effects, and a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells or effects. #Low-Light Vision: An elf can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. She retains the ability to distinguish colour and detail under these conditions. #+2 racial bonus on Listen, Search, and Spot checks. #Weapon Proficiency: Elves receive the Martial Weapon Proficiency feats for the longbow (including composite longbow), and shortbow (including composite shortbow) as bonus feats. #Automatic Languages: Common and Elven. Bonus Languages: Draconic, Gnoll, Gnome, Goblin, Orc, and Sylvan. #Spell-Like Abilities: 1/day—Detect Animals or Plants. An elf with a Charisma score of at least 10 also has the following spell-like abilities: 3/day—delay poison, detect poison, pass without trace. 1/day — Barkskin. Caster level 1st; save DC 10 + elf’s Cha modifier + spell level. #Favored Class: Ranger. A multiclass elf’s ranger class does not count when determining whether she takes an experience point penalty for multiclassing. #Level Adjustment: +1 |
| The_Shaman03-23-07, 12:44 PM | You know, I've heard people use the killoren (RotW) statistics instead. |
| Rump_Wrangler03-23-07, 12:47 PM | You know, I've heard people use the killoren (RotW) statistics instead. Anything to avoid the horrible shambling fern look they have going. |
| RobbyPants03-23-07, 12:52 PM | I've tried the fey approach when I created a version of night elves (warcraft) back in 3E. I like the idea you have. It would be a way to make them more "special" and less common (largely due to the level adjustment). What I'm going to do next campaign is to stat high elves like grey elves (-2 Str, +2 Int, in addition to other elven traits), and stat wood elves as standard high elves (so no +2 Str and -2 Int, but they would have +2 Str and -2 Int compared to other elf races). |
| Naderion03-24-07, 09:13 AM | A good Idea for "fey-elves" are making them more like the Sidhe, the "Elves" of irish mythology. They basically are "fey-elves". |
| tombowings03-24-07, 04:19 PM | Please get rid of the +1 LA....LA=bad |
| Naderion03-25-07, 08:46 AM | Without LA, you don't get powerfull races, it's that simple. |
| The_Shaman03-25-07, 09:05 AM | Sure, but is this so powerful? It has slightly worse abilities than the average elf except for the spell-likes, most of which are 10+ cha like the ones gnomes get. Cut them down to 1/day, and imo you have a solid, but not overpowered, LA +0 race. |
| Naderion03-25-07, 09:10 AM | With caster level 1st for the spell like abilities, it's no way worth LA +1. |
| GAMBLE_d1303-25-07, 09:11 AM | The Sidhe (irish "elves") are cool and all, but a Fey-Elf can still keep its original Norse roots... in Norse mythology Elves were similiar to DvR 0 beings, I find makingthem Fey, bridges the gap between deity and non-deity status whilst maintaining the air of mystery, and otherworldyness that are what Elves are all about. PS: I use the Killoren Stats, and just add Elven Racial modifier to stats... then paint the Killoren to make him look like an Elf... so far it is working great. (Favoured class Druid for the win ;) ) |
| Mic03-26-07, 04:08 AM | Ok, I'm still considering whether I want elves to be an LA+1 or LA+0 race, but here are the revised stats for either version I'm thinking of implementing: Elves #fey type #+2 Dexterity, -2 Constitution -> Elves are agile but fragile #Medium: As Medium creatures, elves have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size. An elf with a Charisma score of at least 10 also has the following spell-like abilities: 1/day—delay poison, detect poison, pass without trace, barkskin. Caster level 1st; save DC 10 + elf’s Cha modifier + spell level. #Favored Class: Ranger. A multiclass elf’s ranger class does not count when determining whether she takes an experience point penalty for multiclassing. Elves #fey type #+2 Dexterity, -2 Constitution, +2 Wisdom -> Elves are agile but fragile #Medium: As Medium creatures, elves have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size. An elf with a Charisma score of at least 10 also has the following spell-like abilities: 3/day—delay poison, detect poison, longstrider, pass without trace. 1/day — barkskin, goodberry. Caster level 1st; save DC 10 + elf’s Cha modifier + spell level. #Favored Class: Ranger. A multiclass elf’s ranger class does not count when determining whether she takes an experience point penalty for multiclassing. #Level Adjustment: +1 Are these worth their LA's or do they need something extra? |
