i'm going to be playing a game where the DM will be allowing PC to be humanoid creatures from the monster manual in addition to all the crazy races in the players handbook or from any D&D book we can find including magazines.

one of my friends is talking about being a fairy and wants me to help her make her character sheet, but i haven't noticed any fairy templates... i was wondering if some one could help me in one of two ways

1. tell me where to look to fined the fairy i have failed to notice
or
2. pat me on the head and tell me not to worry PC can't be fairies

thank you for your time.

Check out the pixie as a race in Savage species. It is actually really good, better if you are in gestalt but good none the less. Pixies are the most traditional Fairy in there, in the way most people think about them.

Try out a Petal (MM3 I believe). The Petal is a Tiny Fey race with, if I remember correctly, a +3LA. They can fly and make great spell casters, which I assume the player will be.

Reminds me of my Petal Wizard Cohort.
Good times, good times...

The problem with savage species is that it uses the 3.0 ruleset and therefore has some differences from the 3.5 Monster Manual Pixie.

1) No damage reduction in 3.0
2) Confusion instead of lesser confusion in 3.0

Also, the savage species assumes that you're getting your first hit die as a fey, so you have to change the hit die and skill points for your class. Also, since your intelligence is changing for several levels, you have a choice about how you want to handle skill points. I personally assign extra skill points as int increases since i want the character to look the same at 5th level as if he entered it at that point just using the monster manual.

If you're starting at level 5 or beyond, you don't even need a progression, just play it as a normal class with a +4 level adjustment.

Just play the pixie from the MM. According to the rules, you replace the 1 hit die with the first level in a class. The SS pixie gets Otto's based on Cha, whereas the MM pixie gets it at in exchange for a higher LA. Otto's isn't that great because you have to make a touch attack, and with the pixie's penalty to Str, that's hard to do. The pixie in SS costs 5 levels before classes kick in, the pixie in MM costs only 4. Pixie casters are good, pixie warlocks are better. Eldritch spear means you can be invisible and 250' in the air, out of reach.

The pixie in SS costs 5 levels before classes kick in, the pixie in MM costs only 4.

This isn't true, the pixie from savage species just uses the fey HD instead of the class HD. Substituting a class HD instead, you still end up at level 5 as a level 1 character with +4 level adjustment.

The fairy-ish templates I've noticed are the half-fey and the feytouched in the Fiend Folio; however, these are mostly based on individuals with fey blood rather than being, well, fairies. OTOH, the half-fey is fairly nice - despite being a LA+2 with a constitution penalty. Apart from that, sure, the pixie, the petal and the grig (tiny, poor flight speed) would be the most fairy-ish races that I can think of.

It's only +2.

There is a fairy race in Mythic Races.

There is an interesting template in the Dragon Compendium for Unseelie Fey (a kind of mixed/half-fey):

It is also LA+0

thats not what Unseelie and seelie are at all, they are level adjustment 0 because they can only be applied to fey. They represent court affiliation. as in the courts of the fey Unseelie are the winter court and Seelie are the summer court.

What dragon issue is that fey from?

Actually - the best pixie class in my opinion is a swashbucker (they have huge Int) with 2 levels in rogue (need evasion for their low HP - otherwise one fireball that finds them and they're fried) and the feat from complete adventurer that allows rogue and swashbucker levels to stack for sneak attack and the swashbuckler's grace/dodge. I mean - as they are always invis - every attack is a sneak attack assuming their opponent doesn't have blindfight/blindsight.

Even if the invis is dispelled - it turns on again the following round.

Actually, yeah it is. It is a template to be added to any "base" creature.

I do not get it myself. The "Unseelie Court" went from the Queen of Air and Darkness's opposition to Titania's Seelie Court, to a random unnamed group (as well as the Seelie Court) in 3.x in the Manual of the Planes (on a plane which contradicts the Seelie Court by the way), to now being the name of evil fey hybrids with mortal beings. It even constantly refers to them as "The Unseelie Court" throughout the whole entry, explanation, and rules for creating one from a base creature/race.

What dragon issue is that fey from?

I do not know, but it was probably a pre-3.x issue. It was reprinted in Paizo's (the rightful owners of Dragon Magazine) recent "best of Dragon Magazine" book the Dragon Compendium (http://paizo.com/dragon/products/books/v5748btpy7dxa&source=search). It reprints and updates a ton of older material to 3.5 rules. A personal favorite in my collection!

Like I said before, there is a Fairy race in Mythic Races, and I checked it for more info. It is divided into two branches, the seelie, who represent the light, and the unseelie, who represent the dark. One branch is good the other is evil. One branch have pale skin the other dark.

LA is +3, no RHD but HD type is always d4.

Think I prefer the MM pixie.

Don't play the MM Pixie, it will break your game (constant flying invisible spellcaster or Rogue) or you'll easily end up with a dead Pixie (massive LA, low HP, bad saves), no in-betweens.

Sprite
Sprites are possibly one of the most common Fey races in any Fey-occupied area, much like their adopted animal shapes of birds, toads, fish, and such. In some areas they also take the role of 'prey' near the bottom of any food chain.

Small Fey (Elf, Sprite)
+2 racial Dexterity and Charisma
-2 racial Constitution and Intelligence
-4 racial Strength
Low-Light Vision
+2 racial bonus to Spot and Listen
Sleep Resistant trait

Slight Build: The being counts as one size smaller when doing so would be beneficial.
Curiosity: The being gains a +2 racial bonus to Search checks and may detect hidden passages and doors as if actively searching at all times.
Hover Wings (Ex.): The being may manifest wings that grant them the flying ability of a Floating Disk spell. Their low-altitude flight speed is equal to their normal land movement.

Additional levels allow new traits to be gained of the specified level and under.
These ability score bonuses stack with others from the same race.

Automatic Languages: Sylvan

Sprite abilities scale according to character level:Level 2 - Lesser Mystic Wings (Ex.): The being may manifest wings that grant them the effect of a Fly spell at half speed but with Good maneuverability. Only move actions may be made while flying.
Level 3 - Animal Shape (Change Shape, Su.): The being may may appear as any animal or vermin of their natural size or one size smaller. Racial and class abilities mostly do not change (except for when certain limbs can't hold objects, such as fins or wings) but the being may communicate normally with members of the chosen species and gains both a matching Swim speed and Amphibious quality if the species has a swim speed.
Level 4 - gains +2 racial Intelligence and Constitution, Growing Size (Ex.): may become one size larger or return to normal size as a full-round action. This size increase (from Medium to Large) gives +4 racial Strength, +1 racial Fortitude saves, -2 racial Dexterity, -4 racial Hide checks, +5 reach (if Large or bigger), and -1 attack rolls and AC. Height doubles, weight x8. See the MM for other size change modifiers under "Improving Monsters".
Level 5 - Mystic Wings (Ex.): The being may manifest wings that grant them the effect of a Fly spell.

Note that even though this material is posted here, it originates outside of WOTC property and therefore can not be duplicated without permission of Feybook authors.

I vote for petal as well. Less debilitating LA, and those stat mods are just sick in tandem with feats like weapon finesse and shadow blade. AKA the perfect swordsage.:)

The Domovoi (Frostburn). 2HD (Fey - not bad for skills and saves), LA+2, and a net +20 adjustments in stats : Wis/Cha +6, Int/Dex +4, Con +2, Str -2. And a few SLA.

With this HD/LA giving an ECL4, spellcaster classes might not be the best move, but think about a mnk1/pal2/factotum13. AC and saves will be terrible.;)

thank you all for your impute, this helps a lot. :)

I'm going to run these ideas by my friend and the DM and see what they like best.

if you have any more ideas to share that would be wonderful as the campaign will not start for another few weeks :D
