As the title implies. I just noticed that a shambling mound is a playable race. Any person tell me why this is so? I'm not saying it would be unbalanced or anything of the like, I'm just saying WHY?

I think the better question is "Why not?"

I personally find it fairly weak for a ECL14 PC (unless you can get your dm to allow a magic ring which deals 1 electrical damage to its wearer each round).

But it will most probably see play as a druid's cohort via the leadership feat or something.:)

Then wouldn't it be noted as a cohort in a nearby paranthetical citation like the other creatures that cannot speak? I honestly can't imagine wanting to play such a creature since I would have no clue as to it's motivation for adventurering, thought process, or how I would get sround not being able to speak.

If I were to play a Shambling Mound, I would play a Shambling Mound Rogue. Why? To shamble where no shambler has shambled before!

Also, I wouldn't need camoflage to have camoflage. ^^

I can't really think about any race, that would really be not playable.

Its an awkward pc race. The electricity absorption power is easy to abuse.

Where is it listed as a playable race? Does it have a "Shambling Mounds as Playable Characters" sidebar in the MM? I'm not trying dispute anything, I'm just curious! :) Thanks!

It has a listed LA, and is technically viable for use as a PC.
Isn't there some reserve feat which lets you shoot lightning bolts at will?:P
