Anyways, I took a look at Stormwrack's half-aquatic elf for references, and got this. Half-drow While drow are elves, they are far enough removed from their cousins, both biologically and culturally. Half-drow are fairly uncommon, as they often face hardships unknown to their surface cousins. When raised on the surface, they may fare better, but not by much. In addition to the standard half-elf racial stats, a half-drow gains the following: • A half-drow does not gain low-light vision, gaining darkvision instead. • Darkvision 60 ft: half drow can see in the dark up to 60 feet. Darkvision is black and white only, but it is otherwise like normal sight, and half-drow can function with no light at all. Half-drow cannot see as well in the Underdark, due to their human parentage. • Light Sensitivity (Ex): a half-drow is dazzled in bright sunlight or within the radius of a daylight spell. While their human heritage dilutes the drow’s weakness to light, half-drow still experience difficulty with the sun. • Spell-like abilities: 1/day – darkness; Caster level equal to class level. Half-drow gain some of their parent’s innate magic. • A half-drow does not receive any bonus on Diplomacy and Gather Information checks. In either society, a half-drow is shunned at best. • Languages: Common, Elven, Undercommon. Bonus Languages: Abyssal, Draconic, Goblin, Kuo-Toan, Orc. Unlike half-elves, a half-drow does not have as many opportunities to learn different languages. Note: if darkness is too powerful, then add faerie fire instead; if having three automatic languages are too much, then have the option to choose between Elven and Undercommon (they either start off knowing one or the other). |

| Elrond Hubbard06-13-07, 02:50 PM | I like it. I made a half-drow character at one point and came up with basically the same thing. I don't think Darkness is too powerful, given the light sensitivity. I would also give a half-drow other traits characteristic of half-elves: immunity to sleep spells and +2 vs enchantment, as well as the +1 on listen/spot/search. However, good call re: diplomacy/gather info. I would determine languages based on the character's backstory. Seems unlikely that the character would be raised by a drow parent unless that parent was an outcast, so I would not allow Undercommon OR Elven unless either made sense given the particular character's history. |

Good call on dropping the diplomacy and gather information; replace them with +1 to listen/spot/search/sense motive growing up knowing someone is after you makes a good teacher. 3. Drop the Aquan language drow learning the language of water creatures is a stretch. |
| DeciusNero06-14-07, 11:15 AM | Thanks for the positive feedback. @ Bughunter and Elrond Hubbard; the stats listed above were mainly what I was changing from the half-elf standard. My half-drow still keep +1 Listen/Search/Spot, enchantment resistance, sleep immunity, and elven blood (though they should also be noted as drow for certain feats). I see that Aquan might be a stretch (I think I tried to use some of what languages drow know), so how about Kuo-Toan? |
| Agravain306-14-07, 11:18 AM | i once tryed one with my group......lets just say it diddnt work out for my group  but it could work out for you? |
| BugHunter06-14-07, 02:16 PM | I see that Aquan might be a stretch (I think I tried to use some of what languages drow know), so how about Kuo-Toan? Kuo-Toan or the language for mind-flayers. |
| DeciusNero06-14-07, 09:45 PM | Kuo-Toan or the language for mind-flayers. I believe illithids mainly speak Undercommon. |
| BugHunter06-15-07, 12:09 AM | I believe illithids mainly speak Undercommon. You're right about the language I didn't have access to books when I made the post. |
