Fallenangel359 05-03-07, 10:43 AM	the PHB says that in an aquatic campaign a druid can start with animal companions from a different list, crocodile is one of the ones from the list I'm in a stormwrack campaign, and I'm trying to decide if the druid gets it at -3 like the chart on the next page says, or the paragraph thats said on page 35 As far as I know, text trumps table, but 3 hit die creature with a 1d12+6 attack roll at level 1 is rather mean. What should be done?

jaelis 05-03-07, 12:38 PM	The srd says A druid may begin play with an animal companion selected from the following list: badger, camel, dire rat, dog, riding dog, eagle, hawk, horse (light or heavy), owl, pony, snake (Small or Medium viper), or wolf. If the campaign takes place wholly or partly in an aquatic environment, the following creatures are also available: manta ray, porpoise, Medium shark, and squid. This animal is a loyal companion that accompanies the druid on her adventures as appropriate for its kind. Nothing about a crocodile there... is the PHB different?
Seldriss 05-03-07, 01:30 PM	The Alternative Animal Companions are only available to druids of sufficient level. To get a crocodile as a companion, your druid needs to be at least level 4. And the croc will receive adjustments (HD, AC, Str/Dex, tricks and special) as a companion for a druid of 3 levels lower, according to the modifier in parentheses. So no croc for 1st level druid.
