I would be interested in seeing what others would post as well. I know my son has been looking for a new race to play as his cleric I told him nothing more than LA+1 since he would loose too much in casting ability , he wanted wings though ..

but my question to you is .. if it is still a pixie does it still get the DR/Cold Iron? and what other SLA did he have ..

No...

The Pixie in the SRD is a LA+4 (sometimes +6,with Otto's irresistable dance)

The ability scores are not balanced, the power of flight boosts the heck out of it, invisibility is powerful enough, and

Here is the Pixie via SRD, bottom of the page...

Pixies don't get Invisibility as a spell-like ability. They just have Greater Invisibility permanently. Theres no need to cast it, or even concentrate on it, it's just there.

The bonuses to his stats should get dumped further than that, he's getting a grand total of +2 to all social stats, and a +4 to the one physical stat that matters to a pixie. Then theres the DR10/Cold Iron, it's five SLAs, and the fly speed.

If you wanted to reduce Pixies to an LA of +1, remove it's bonus to INT, lower the DEX bonus by 2 or increase the CON by 2, then remove Greater Invisibility, reduce the fly speed to average, and finally remove the DR/10.

Then you get..
Fly 60ft (Average)
Small-size
STR -4
CON -4
DEX +4
WIS +2
CHA +2
Low Light Vision
SLAs (CHA-based):
Dancing Lights
Entangle
Permanent Image
Dispel Magic
Lesser Confusion

IE 4xbase fly speed? also what is the (average) for? I know there are other ratings poor good perfect and such . but what does that mean? where can I find this info .. thanks.

A while ago, i made a light version of the Pixie on these threads. It was LA+1 only, but i don't find it back.
So if it can be useful, here is another version i made for my own campaign, but it is LA+2.

PIXIE (light version)
Tiny Fey
Speed 20, Fly 60 (good)
Str -4, Dex +4, Con -2, Cha +2
Tiny : AC+2, Attack +2, Hide +5, speed 20, weight and weapons limitations
Immune to charm and sleep
Low-light vision
Invisibility at will
Damage Reduction 5/cold iron
Spell Resistance 11+1/level
Spell-like Abilities, 1/day : Confusion, Dancing Lights, Entangle, Minor Image
Faerie Luck : Total Action Points = 5+1/level*
Sylvan Adaptation : +2 to skills and saves relative to the environment*
Hide +2, Listen +2, Move Silently +2, Search +2, Spot +2
Languages : Sylvan and Common. Bonus languages : Elf, Gnome
Level Adjustment +2
Vulnerability to Iron : No iron in blood or equipment, damage from iron weapons +1, no powers or spells in case of prolonged contact (For/DC15 or 1d3 Con damage), can be turned by an iron knife.*

The abilities with a * are kind of specific to my campaign setting.
You can disregard them.

For a LA+1 version :
- Remove the SR and replace it with Resist Magic +2
- Remove the Confusion ability

Just a tiny alteration but IIRC Pixies are counted as small creatures in 3.5 not tiny.

I know, but i can't picture them as small.
For me, they are tiny, about 2 feet.

You could try the feytouched race in fiend folio. Or the half fey template if you are willing to suck up a LA+2.

Here's a lame pixie.

FAIRY
+4 Strength, -2 Intelligence, -2 Wisdom. Fairies are strong for their size, but dumb and flighty.
Humanoid. <--Oh, how I hate the "X Person" line of spells.
Tiny Size.
Base Land Speed: 20'
Reach: 0'. A fairy wielding a reach weapon while tiny has a reach of 5' but doesn't threaten her own space with it.
Low-Light Vision. A fairy can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. She retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.
Scorn Earth (Su): Though normally incapable of true flight, a fairy can float a foot above the ground. Instead of walking she glides along, unconcerned with the hard earth or difficult terrain. While she remains within 1 foot of a flat surface of any solid or liquid, she can take normal actions and make normal attacks, and can move at her normal speed (she can even “run” at four times her normal speed). However, at distances higher than 1 foot above any surface, her speed diminishes to 5 feet per round.
While she remains within 1 foot of a surface, she can make melee and ranged attacks normally, but if she moves any higher, she incurs the penalties on melee and ranged attack rolls as if she were the subject of the psionic levitate power or levitate spell.
Weapon Familiarity: Glaive, Two-Bladed Sword, Shortbow, Longbow, Greatbow (and composite versions)
Spell-Like Abilities: 1/day—dancing lights, ghost sound, prestidigitation. Caster level equal to fairy's character level; save DC 10 + fairy’s Cha modifier + spell level.
Fairies count as elves for those stupid elf/half-elf-only prestige classes, feats, and weapons.
+3 racial bonus on listen, search, and spot checks.
Blind-Fight as a bonus feat.
Automatic Languages: Common, Sylvan.
Bonus Languages: Uh...Any.
Favored Class: Uh...Any. Fairies hate the concept of favored classes and love to point and laugh at the other demihuman races for being so inflexible. Otherwise, Barbarian, Scout, Wilderness Rogue, Ranger...one of those.

Aging
Fairies have no age categories beyond adulthood and don't have a maximum age.

Height/Weight
Male Base Height 1'4"
Male Base Weight: 3.75 lbs
Female Base Height 1'3"
Female Base Weight: 3.25 lbs
Height Modifier: +1d4"
Weight Modifier: x .125 lbs

Yayyyy!

I guess I won't come up anything before sunday:(, stupid driving test:rolleyes:

but I'll come up with somethin in this week:D propably:P
warforgedMonkey

03-25-07, 08:23 PM
im the player that's making the pixie =P the stats are:

- -4 con, -4 str, +4 dex, +2 int, +2 wis, +4 cha

- Small fey
-Base land speed: 20 ft. fly(good) 60 ft.
-Low-light vision
- +1 nat AC
- invisibility (not greater)
-Spells like abilities:
1/day detect thoughts, dancing lights, permanent image (DC 17), polymorph (self only) CL 8th

LA: +1

Invisibility instead of Greater invisibility is just for the character flavor. i dont want it to be invisible.. Always! just from time to time. and most of the other traits are from the pixie traits in MM

its gonna be a spellcaster cleric/wizard then take a prestige class simular to the Mystic theurge (dm guide).

What lvl Adjustment do you think it should be?

A fly speed with anything above poor manuveriblity is a +2 level adjustment.

Instead of a direct fly speed, try a glide speed that improves to a limited flight at a higher level and regular flying later on.

You can find the mechanics for this in Races of the Wild under Raptoran class and in Races of the Dragon under the Draconic Wings and Improved Draconic Wings.

The Sav Spe says a fly speed gets a +2 LA from the bat so I would say that your pixe is more then a +1

Consider the daysprites from my signature; they're LA+0 with a flight ability that starts off very limited and gets progressively better as it gains hitdice from classes.

Full flight 60 ft with good maneuverability (pixie standard) is a huge bonus at low levels. It makes them invulnerable against anything without a ranged attack. Improved invisibility at will is also a huge bonus. With the number of tactical abilities pixies possess, they should technically have a level adjustment of +8 or +9 (and that's without Otto's Irrisistable Dance). However, a pixie with 1 hit die and LA+8 would have no chance of survival, so WotC lowered the LA to +4. While this is fine for a pixie melee fighter, a pixie rogue could single-handedly obliterate living creatures far above its ECL.

To make a pixie playable at low levels, its invisibility needs to vanish, it needs to lose its spell-like abilities (except for perhaps a couple L0 SLAs like dancing lights) and its flight needs to be toned down dramatically.

For LA+1, consider the pixie variant below:
>> STR -6, DEX +2, CHA +2
>> Tiny Size (+2 AC/ATK, reach 0 ft, +8 hide, etc.)
>> Land speed 15 ft
>> Winged Flight: A pixie starts off with a fly speed of 10ft + 5ft/hitdie (starting 15ft at 1hd), max 60ft at 10hd, with good maneuverability. Pixies cannot fly while carrying more than a light load, or while exhausted, immobilized, or unconscious. A fatigued pixie cannot fly but can user her wings to descend as per the Feather Fall spell description.
>> Saves: +1 bonus vs spells and spell-like effects (SP/SU)
>> Spell-like abilities: Dancing Lights 1/day
>> Skills: +2 bonus to listen, search, and spot
>> Favored Class: Sorcerer
>> Level Adjustment: +1

Remember, if you allow anything with unlimited flight in an outdoor campaign setting, be prepared for fly-over scouting and sniping on a massive scale.

To get the stats for a 1st level Pixie go open up Savage Species and look at the 4 level progession for Pixie. As DM you may choose to waver that he is forced to take all 4 levels in the Pixie "class".

You might suggest Raptorans from Races of the Wild, Dragonborn from Races of the Dragon, Air Genasi from FR:CS...they don't have wings, but they levitate....you could even see if he wanted to play a Favored Soul from Complete Divine. They get wings later in levels....

I do. :bounce: You could give him wings and take one (or both) domains away. Good luck! And always glad to see the younger generation getting into the game.

It's easier to use level progression from SS. That way he won't get all of his abilities at once and you both don't have to worry about LA.
