| lunawarrior002-08-08, 06:12 PM | I am looking to be a cleric, and like to cast spells (ALOT) so I was wondering what race has the highest bonus to wisdom? this is only a lvl 5 game right now, so low or non-existant LA would be nice. One more restriction, I am running on a limited supply of books right now, so if the race could be in MM1, or MM4 (feel free to throw any race from any book in, but if they are in one of those two it would be really nice) :D Thanks! :D |
| BugHunter02-08-08, 08:01 PM | The MM1 has planetouched - Aasimar they are a +1 LA giving you a +2 to wisdom and charisma. |
| ciaran02-08-08, 08:06 PM | A power cleric I played made good use of the Spellcasting Prodigy (?) feat. |
| zeratulcraft02-08-08, 08:13 PM | The MM1 has planetouched - Aasimar they are a +1 LA giving you a +2 to wisdom and charisma. Or be a lesser aasimar from one of the Forgotten Realms books and have LA+0. |
| BugHunter02-08-08, 08:36 PM | Or be a lesser aasimar from one of the Forgotten Realms books and have LA+0. Without knowing if the OP has Player's Guide to Faerun it was safer to state the MM1 since they have that book. |
| ikki02-08-08, 09:16 PM | Well kinda like related.. but at 5th level.. and worshipping Tharizdum, that doomdreamer prc opens up ;) With it -madness, which is a nice bonus for extra spells. |
| gixanthrax02-11-08, 10:07 AM | mhm. another use for the Feral template...(from Savage species) i's LA+1 gives a bonus to wis, unfortunately(for clerics) a penalty to Cha. But it also adds some other nice benefits. I once used a feral Dwarfencleric of hanseath to drive my DM mad... if you go this way, youshould choose( if your DM allows it) weapon focus and weapon specialisation: claw. You will easily be able to outtank your fighter and you are only lagging one caster lvl. |
| AZNsupermarket02-11-08, 12:27 PM | Here are all your choices from WOTC published material for +0 LA races that get a bonus to wisdom: Anthropomorphic Bat: -4 Str +6 Wis -2 Cha, small, 5 ft. (fly 20 ft. average), blindsense (ex), druid, monstrous humanoid, savage species pg.215 Anthropomorphic Lizard: -4 Str +2 Dex +4 Wis -4 Cha, small, 20 ft., druid, monstrous humanoid, savage species pg.215 Anthropomorphic Monkey: -4 Str +2 Dex +4Wis -2 Cha, small, 30 ft., druid, monstrous humanoid, savage species pg.215 Anthropomorphic Rat: -4 Str +2 Dex +4 Wis -4 Cha, small, 15 ft., rogue, monstrous humanoid, savage species pg.215 Anthropomorphic Raven: -6 Str +2 Dex +4 Wis -4 Cha, small, 10 ft. (fly 30ft. poor), rogue, monstrous humanoid, savage species pg.215 Anthropomorphic Toad: -4 Str -2 Dex +6 Wis -2 Cha, small, 5 ft., cleric, monstrous humanoid, savage species pg.215 Anthropomorphic Weasel: -4 Str +2 Dex +4 Wis -4 Cha, small, 20 ft., attach (ex), druid, monstrous humanoid, savage species pg.215 Jermlaine: -6 Str +6 Dex -2 Con -2 Int +6 Wis -6 Cha, tiny, 40 ft., rogue, fey, monster manual 2 pg.131 Buomman: +2 Wis -2 Cha, medium, 30 ft., monk, humanoid (buomman, extraplanar), planar handbook pg.08 "Lesser" Aasimar: +2 Wis +2 Cha, medium, 30 ft., light (sp), paladin, humanoid (planetouched), player’s guide to faerun pg.191 Venerable Dragonwrought Kobold: -4 Str +2 Dex -2 Con +3 Int +3 Wis +3 Cha, small, 30 ft., sorcerer, dragon (kobold, reptilian, dragonblood), monter manual pg.161 and races of the dragon pg. 39 Vanara: -2 Str +2 Int +2 Wis, medium, 30 ft. climb 20 ft., spirit shaman, humanoid (vanara), oriental adventures pg.15 – Note: in a 3.5 oriental adventures update found in Dragon magazine, vanara were updated to no longer have any ability score adjustments. You can also add the Dragonborn of Bahamut pseudo-template without level adjustment to any of the races with a bonus to wis (beside the venerable dragonwrought kobold) and gain +2 con -2 dex, which stacks with your original ablity adjustments. That may be helpful for a lot of these, especially for the Buomman, who would RAW lose their vow of silence when they become a Dragonborn of Bahamut. Dragonborn: +2 Con -2 Dex, same as base creature, same as base creature, fighter and the base creatures, humanoid (dragonblood, same as base creature), races of the dragon pg.5 Other than that, you can just increase your age level and suffer the physical ability score penalties. |
| lunawarrior002-11-08, 10:48 PM | Thanks guys (especially AZNsupermarket, I need to bookmark that master player race list). Now, to see which of these races my DM will let me play, this could be entertaining. :evillaugh |
| AZNsupermarket02-12-08, 12:36 AM | Thanks guys (especially AZNsupermarket, I need to bookmark that master player race list). Now, to see which of these races my DM will let me play, this could be entertaining. :evillaugh I hate posting this list for this very reason... someone might actually try to play one of these races and a less experienced DM might allow them to play it... Horrifying! LOL As a DM, I wouldn't let my players play as any of these races as is. Maybe the buomman would be the only exception (vow of silence tends to even out any advantages a bonus to wisdom might give). |
