| Master of the Ebon Rose10-30-07, 04:21 PM | Would you consider playing a poison dusk lizardfolk (MM3)? If so, why? If not, why? As a second part, are they too powerful for a +1 LA (as written)? Arminas tar Valantil Grand Master of the Ebon Rose |
| zook1shoe66610-30-07, 09:26 PM | i like the Poison Dusk Lizardfolk.... i prefer them over the regular ones or the black ones... due to not having a racial HD. i think they are fairly balanced for a +1 LA race. |
| Poison_Dusk10-30-07, 11:12 PM | We are perfect. We also make great characters. I have been a scout, barbarian, and a dragonfire adept. Totally worth the +1 LA even without buyoff rules. |
| echelon_house10-31-07, 02:58 AM | I'm actually playing a Poison Dusk in a "lizard-world" campaign right now. He's a Scout, and I really have to say that I'm loving him. For just a +1 LA, he's incredibly good at, well, being a scout. I wouldn't try to make a poison dusk barbarian, but if you play into their strengths they can be surprisingly powerful. |
| Poison_Dusk10-31-07, 05:28 PM | Barbarian is not that bad. After all they have no STR penalty and and movement like a medium character. I think the weaker weapons would be made up for with the STR bonus when raging. Not to mention the bonus to DEX and NA and being small make you harder to hit. I kinda like the idea of a little guy that flips out and tears the baddies apart with tooth and claw....... |
| Bauglir10-31-07, 05:46 PM | I really enjoy them. I made a Dex-based Dragon Shaman lizard once, and that was probably the best character I've ever played. Hide check through the roof, and a decent Move Silently to boot. High AC and high HP, combined with decent saves, meant high survivability. That and the minor healing capabilities are fun. I know that Dragonfire Adept might, strictly speaking, be better, but for the role this character played (dextrous melee, using the breath weapon as an auxiliary tactic), they just wouldn't have been as good. Oh, and they didn't exist at the time, either, I suppose. On-topic, though, the AC boost is a wonderful thing, as is the minor boost to hit points and Fortitude saves. Plus, that racial hide ability is quite nice combined with glamered armor to look like the sort of clothes the pictured one was wearing (which I assume won't ruin hiding). And the joy of saying that the rest of the party was smelly was a good one (mammals and their silly sweat glands). |
| Salla10-31-07, 05:49 PM | I wouldn't play one, because I just don't like lizards. They seem decently balanced for a LA +1. |
| Jaxgaret10-31-07, 06:08 PM | I could see a PDLizardfolk Ranger doing really nicely with the Favored Enemy: Arcanist variant. They look to be well balanced for LA +1. |
| endofdreams10-31-07, 07:56 PM | I've actually woked with my current DM to make them +0, (taking away chameleon skin and such) and am looking forward to playing them soon. From a mechanical standpoint, I think they are a great way to open up a new race for lower level characters, and they seem sufficently balanced. +1 LA for a +2 physical ability, 3 natural armor, poison use and a bonus to hide? Seems awefully reasonable to me. |
| Xiuhcoatl11-02-07, 08:58 AM | I considered playing a Poison Dusk Lizardfolk Paladin for an eberron game, but that fell through. |
| j0lt12-13-07, 03:24 AM | I played a Poisondusk Lizardfolk Ranger for a while in a pseudo-mesoamerican fantasy setting where Yuan-ti were invading the lands of the various Lizardfolk tribes. We had a party comprised of a Poisondusk, Blackscale, and regular Lizardfolk. He was quite an effective assassin! :P |
