Powerful build races and Soulknife mindblade [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-19-07, 09:33 PM I was wondering if allowing powerful build race (half-giant, and goliath) soulknives to naturaly manifest large weapons would be "broken"? If so, would a feat allowing this be more approiate?

In simple game terms it wouldn't be larger simply because he would be able to use it without penalty, he's still Medium. If you (as a DM) or your DM (as a player) feels fine to houserule it, go right ahead. No, it isn't that far of a stretch and seems within rights.

Edit: A feat might be a good idea, but it'd be tricky to find a balance. It shouldn't be specifically limited to characters with "Powerful Build", but should still have enough prerequisites or enough of a drawback that not every mindblade would take it.

06-20-07, 12:05 AM Why would it be unbalanced to make it available to races with powerful build only? There is a feat that lets races with powerful build apply it to their wild shape after all.

06-20-07, 01:28 AM There's already a feat that increases damage. That's improved natural attack. It already applies to monk's weapons so why not to soulknife's mindblade also? And I think that it's fairly balanced to allow powerful builded creatures to wield bigger mindblades. The creatures were designed to use bigger weapons!

06-20-07, 02:32 PM I wouldn't see it as a problem, though I do like the flavor of the soulknife, even if the execution is horrible. First two character levels for the equivalent of 10gp in starting equipment, and the whole class as a martial character at 3/4 BAB? Don't mind if I do. So yeah, anything really that can up their damage is great. Look around though, anything in the Soulknife Fixes index (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=684070) is pretty cool. The BlaineTog version is cool if you want to keep calling yourself a Soulknife, and the TooSigma Soulknife as feats (http://toosigma.com/rpg/workshop/feats/mindblade.php) idea is great if you want to be somebody else who slings a mindblade around.
