Does Powerful Build mean you can use your FISTS as one size larger than your actual size should allow?

I don't know about this, just a question :D

Powerful build or Monkey Grip do not increase your unarmed damage.

For that, take:

Improved Natural Attack
Empty Hand Mastery
Majick

empty hand mastery?

It's a martial art style from OA (not a feat).

Basically, if you have specific feats, and ranks in specific skills, your unarmed damage is increased as if you were one size larger.
Majick

Does that stack wih Improved Natural Attack?

I believe they do...I would have to check to make sure.

I believe it does, so get enlarged as well and get ready to deal gargantuan unarmed strike monk damage.

What about a fanged ring…

OA = Oriental Adventures? Isn't that a non-official source book though?

Nope, it is a 3.0 D&D WotC book.

Holy god damage machine yo!

Improved Natural Attack (feat)

Empty Handed Mastery (style?)
Monk's Belt (item)

Fanged Ring?

If you are going single class monk these are a waste at higher levels.

Dude, at 11th level you can qualify for Kensai, no one needs to go any higher than that

Medium Monk at 11th level
damage: 1d10

add Monk's Belt
damage: 2d8

add Superior Unarmed Strike
damage: 2d10

add Improved Natural Attack
damage: 4d8

add Empty Hand Mastery
damage: 6d8
(or 5d8 depending on interpretation, to me it says 6d6 as 2d10 turns into 4d8 from medium to large Monks)

add Amulet of Might Fists
damage: 6d8 + 1 to 5 (also +1 to 5 on 'to hit' rolls)

add 5 Kensai levels (+5 fists)
final damage: Theoretical 6d8 +10 (+strength) with a +10 'to hit'

And this works???

And what in god's name does the Fanged Ring do?

The Kensai ability wouldn't stack with the Amulet of Mighty fists, both are enhancement bonuses. Also, even if it did, this is an average of 37+ STR per hit. That is a pittance at level 20.(Or any level above 13 or so.)

And grab Vow of Poverty while you're at it…

The fanged ring also ups your unarmed damage by one size category, I believe.

Can your unarmed strike be considered for Ancestral Weapon?

That's Superior Unarmed Strike, and we've already covered it.

Just a thought

Anybody considered going one level of monk then taking Ascetic Monk, then simply going the rest of the levels in something else like, let's say Rogue, then simply jumping on someone, grappling them, then doing the above mentioned obscene amounts of damage as well as sneak attack?

just a thought

Also monk/scout and a sparring dummy of the masters can go a long way.

Sparring Dummy of the Master?

It is a magic item from the A&EG (what my friends and me refer to as We Were Really High When We Wrote This Guide), that lets a monk train with it for a month or so, and then you make a check and if you succeed you may now take a 10 ft. step instead of 5 ft.
Majick

06-06-07, 11:20 AM
10ft you say? That's awesome tactically speaking

Also, i was just thinking on a build

1st level Monk/ 2nd to 11th levels in Scout or Rogue/ 12th to 15th in Kensai/ the rest in whatever you chose

Monk damage

Sneak or skirmish damage

The 4 levels in Kensai are so you can get +1 (required before anything else as per magic item creation) then the +3 enchantment from Tome of Magic that makes it so your weapon ignores ALL damage reductions (which as we know can be a monks bane not being able to change the damage he does!)

Weeeeeee-heeee-heee! Monk's are the shiznit!

18th level thri-kreen monk (2 monstrous humanoid HD) with Greater Multi-Weapon Fighting, Multiattack and a 10 Str:

Full Attack: Flurry of blows +13/+13/+13/+8/+3 and unarmed strike +13/+8/+3 and unarmed strike +13/+8/+3 and unarmed strike +13/+8/+3 and bite +13

15 attacks per round.

Does multi-attack work with monks with more arms? Really? Does that mean two-weapon fighting does too?
NoldorForce

06-06-07, 11:42 AM
The Fanged Ring won't do anything additional, considering that the latest version (Dragon Magic) grants Improved Unarmed Strike and Improved Natural Attack (Unarmed Strike) as bonus feats.

I've managed to get a character up to 192d6 before, though it required a number of spells to pull off. And Initiate of the Draconic Mysteries levels.

Multi-Weapon Fighting is the equivalent of Two-Weapon Fighting for creatures with more than 2 arms.

Multiattack just lowers the –5 penalty for secondary natural attacks to –2.

And yes, Two-Weapon Fighting stacks with flurry of blows.

Ah, it's always so funny when someone on the regular boards "discovers" something the CharOP boards already did.

I think the last one got 384d8 base damage per unarmed strike.

By Monk level 10 you can theoretically have a level 20 Monks unarmed strike with Gauntlets of the Talon and a Monks Belt.

Add some of the other items and you can do some serious damage, and since the Gauntlets of the Claw are still Gauntlets they can theoretically be enchanted.
