So, anyone thought about making one of these?

Be a pretty bad-ass BBEG.

You'd probably need to specify what you mean by "Protector" if you want an actual answer.

Just a thought.

Bah. I figured most anyone who had read the books that they were from would know instantly.

Larry Niven's 'Known Space' series- Ringworld and such.

I guess you're right; I do needto read better books. I'll put down the Koran and "Paradise Lost" right away!

Well, perhaps not the Koran, but meh. :P

It's a classic in terms of Sci-Fi fiction, somewhat akin to Robert Heinlein's works. I'm not even that big of a sci-fi buff, but I figured a good portion of the people who roam these boards would be, and would at least recognize what the hell I was talking about.
Guess I was wrong.

Ah well. Good books.

You could probably detail what it is a Protector actually does and we can offer the D&D equivalent. Otherwise...you may be out of luck.

Skin-like steel plates that covers their entire body. Conventional weapons would simply be turned or deflected. Can take a bludgeoning blow that would punch a man's heart out of his chest and send it flying away and not be hurt at all. If something does get through, a protector will continue to fight without stopping even if cut in half through the waist (via a lazer or some such) until vital fluids run out (but it will die at this point).

Deific like Intelligence. Can do super-computer calculations as fast as it takes them to comprehend them. Essentially have no free will, because they always know the best course of action to suit their goals, and can judge and/or predetermine another creature's actions after a short period of observation. Even if the original form was unintelligent and the newly created protector awakens in an area with no source of education, he/she will have extrapolated the most advanced physics known today within seconds just by observing his environment. Protectors created from previously intelligent hominids are significantly smarter still.
(Six of them designed and built the ringworld, which is essentially a small segment of a dyson sphere with earth-like geography)

Super-man like strength, and instantaneous (yet conscious) reflexes and perfect total body coordination, to the point that one could dodge bullets. The only known being stronger or faster than a protector is a protector from a race that was originally stronger or faster, or perhaps one that was smarter and could better predict an opponent's actions.

Can no longer breed, and become genderless.

Scent that is strong enough to determine whether or not one is a member of the protector's genetic code from 1/4 mile away, and sight and hearing that is far beyond a human's.

The only limitation that a protector has is that everything it does must be for the benefit of either his off-spring and/or family line before his transformation or whatever species, person, or place he has chosen to protect, and he can allow no harm to come to them. A Protector with nothing to protect stops eating and dies within a week.
