It's basically the racial abilities for a race or template cut into parts and taken in the place of normal class levels. The Savage Progressions Archive (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/arch/sp) has a couple that you could use as a guide. |

There are 2 execptions to this: the Half-Dragon class from Races of the Dragon and Lycanthropes. The Half-Dragon combines the Draconic template and Half-Dragon template into one racial class. When the character completes enough of the class to be a Draconic creature he/she can stop and then later upgrade from Draconic to Half-Dragon. They can stop the progression only at that point otherwise they have to finish the class. I mentioned Lycanthropes because if you use the [i] |

The Character is starting play as a "Hellbred". The Evil God who has a "claim" on his soul, is determined not to let his soul "slip" through his fingers. So as the character makes choices that move him closer to "evil" he gains more and more of the "Half Fiend" template, kind of the "power corrupts" theme. |

Every time the character gains a level, they have to make a will save (DC 15 + number of levels in the template already taken) to avoid progressing further down the monstrous path. It's an interesting experiment in character development and roleplaying if you have players who don't mind the DM having a hand in their characters. I wouldn't recommend it to folks who have players who like to optimize or don't like the DM having his fingers in the character's cookie jar. |

Thanks Crazy Monkey, I was looking for some kind of "will save" mechanic to use. That's perfect :D I'm only the "part time" DM, and the character is mine, so the other players are not concerned.
