ScoutValas 05-15-07, 07:40 PM	I am currently playing in a PBP game and "was" playing a Whisper Gnome Ninja/1. I'll give a little history first. Now we were clearing out a Goblin warren when we encountered what I am assuming is some type of mage or at the very least a Spell Caster. I waited in the shadow watching him until "he did something agressive" when the mage pulled out a daggera and it started to glow blue I attacked. As soon as I did that the guy turned on me, apparently knowing I was there the whole time, grabbed me by the face and killed me by melting the flesh from my bones. (DM's description) So I PM the DM to see what is going to happen? Reroll? or what? He says don't reroll and that I'll see soon waiting for the other players to post. They do and long story short they just stand there and the mage goes to leave through a door he created and just before leaving makes a gesture towards my bones and the come off the ground and start forming into something. I come back as something else all together. My DM informs me that I have gained a level as a Crested Wolf. (Not sure is this is his own creation or not.) I aske him a few questions one of them being what my new xp is and he says that "gaining a template doesn't increase your xp". I have no problem with that. However, the DM also said that I do retain my level of ninja but I lose all my Whisper Gnome Racial abilities. Is this correct?
Lia Nightdemon 05-15-07, 07:43 PM	If the Crested wolf is a template then you would retain your gnome abilities however if it is a new race and you've been racechanged then you wouldn't ask the GM for the stats of this Crested wolf and post them here
Naderion 05-15-07, 07:46 PM	As you described it, yes, this could be correct. But it also could be wrong. Really very much depends on what happened and what this new creature is.
ScoutValas 05-15-07, 07:47 PM	This is what the DM PMed me.... Gain a level of Crested Wolf. This counts as an early second level. +1 BAB +2 STR, +4 DEX, CON Medium Size High saves Fort, Reflex d8 HD d4 MP Skill points 2+Int Claw attacks: 1d4, 1d4. The second one gets all the two weapon fighting penalties when used unless you take the two weapon fighting feats. Your next levelup is at 3000XP Then in another reply.... You lose all racial abilities, but keep your level of ninja. (Oops, one forgotten thing on the last one. Your base speed is now 50)
Naderion 05-15-07, 07:54 PM	Hm, I think this is neither the usuall application of a class, nor a template, and even not a new race. (Maybe racial level?) But though unconventional, this looks viable, with the exception, that you gain your next level at 3000 XP. +10 on Abilities is definately worth at least a Level Adjustment of +1, raising the amount needed for the next level to 6000 XP. I think he knows what he's doing, though it's hard to find out this way. :D
