| Drake_the_Windseeker04-25-07, 01:19 PM | I've got a player who is interested in kitsunes. She wanted to play one, but since there wasn't really any official D&D rules to play one, she got stuck with an Anthropomorphic Fox template which I made for her. Now I've found a template, but I feel it needs a level adjustment or perhaps some tweaking. Here it is: http://wuzzle.org/~storm/1583/kitsune.html . What are your thoughts on the race, and what should the level adjustment be? |
| Nathreet04-25-07, 01:32 PM | General rule: always compare to similar races. I'll brb with a better answer... maybe. Until then, here's an online monster manual (includes normal races too): http://www.d20srd.org/indexes/monsters.htm EDIT: I'm leaning strongly towards LA 0. Their spell like abilities seem very minor, and the feeding seems like more of a hindrance than a help most of the time. Bonuses to 2 mental stats is pretty huge, but the 2 physical penalties (especially con) along with the kitsune's lack of other major benefits seem to balance it well enough. Kinda like the grey elf, who is also LA 0. But if you can conceive any posibility of a kitsune becoming an overpowered caster, in spite of the low HP and lack of major racial abilities, change that to LA 1. But IMO LA 1 would make the kitsune way too weak to be a caster, and way too weak to be anything physical. IMO the kitsune seems great in role-playing terms, and seems fairly balanced in roll-playing terms. But in a hack-n-slash game most of the kitsune's quirks will never see the light of day, and she'll just be a race you take to get +2 wis and +2 cha. Fortunately diplomacy is a class skill for any divine caster, so a well optimized kitsune can still "get friendly". Unfortunately the divine classes are not favored classes for the kitsune, and sorcerors don't get diplomacy. But they do get bluff. |
