OK, I saw a thread talking about stats for rabbits. Now granted I have somewhat of an obsession with our hoppy eared friends. So I got thinking...I'll play a rabbit at some point. I'm completely serious. Make it a psion and it would be completely playable.

The main thing would be to have human intelegence. My first thought was to be an awakened rabbit, but I'm not sure if that spell even exists in 3.5...and even then, I think that gives you a flat intelegence of 10.

My other thought was to be reincarnated (as per the 1% chance of DM's choice in the spell) as a rabbit. I mean then you aren't actually a rabbit, but you basically got the mental scores of a human.

So my basic question is: is there a way to play a small animal with human intelegence (that is rolled, so it can be above average, NOT a flat 10) by RAW? Normally I don't care about RAw, but part of the fun of my psionic bunny will be the fact that he will be %100 RAW.

Probably beaten, but look at the Awaken spell in the PHB. I have awakened lion & awakened tiger PCs built from that. Unless you have & I misread the description.

Why not play an awakened rabbit? That be funny to see a rabbit with a Waistcoat and his Pocket Watch is his Psi crystal. It be so funny to have a Sadistic (One who gets pleasure off of inflicting pain) Rabbit Psion (Telepath). :schemes:

Thanks...for some reason I couldn't find awaken. 3d6 intelegence? Better than nothing. Hopefully I can just role my stats normally and aply the rabbit ability modifiers (whatever they are).

Anyways I will be playing a rabbit, or a hare, in the future. Thank you all.

My basic character concept is that my characters name will be Mr. Fluffles, the pet of a little girl who was captured by mind flayers. Mr. Fluffles followed the little girl down to the mind flayer dungeon. He was exposed to wierd psychic radiation, and eventually ran away. He encountered a dwarven underdark druid who awakened him to learn about the illithids that he was fighting. Upon being awaken Mr. Fluffles was able to tap fully into his psychic abilities. Unforuntely the illithids killed the druids and Mr. Fluffles ran to the surface where he encountered adventuring party x. Mr. Fluffles is jaded and synical, and quite morbid from all his exposier to mind flayers. He has a taste for humanoid flesh and calamari which he developed in the mind flayer cave. His level of sadism will depend on how good the adventuring party is.

I intend for him to be an armored rabbit, and get him a mithril chain shirt at some point, and maby an animated shield. Other than that he will pretty much rely fully on psionics to slay his foes. Maby a dancing X-bow eventually... Lots of poisons too. I'll use a ton of telekonisis to get stuff done.

My word that is great. BTW where is the stats of the Rabbit? I can imagine in a neutral or evil party letting you have your fun with one unforuntate victim as you torture him for hours. :schemes: :coolcthul

Heh, I'll be playing a Tibbit Psion named Fluffy in the next campaign I'm in. Psionic animals are so cute... Plus it'd be fun having +30ish to hide by lvl 2 wouldn't be too bad either. Anyways, psions and tiny animals mesh very well. The physical penalties don't really hurt, and you get huge bumps to AC and a great surprise element, plus all the fun of being a cute fluffy animal. Careful of being grappled though... you get a -8 from size combined with your pitiful strength. A halfling could manhandle(halfhandle?) you with ease. That just adds to the cuteness factor though.

Ok I am going to ask.

A.) What is a Tibbit?

Now that I asked that. Being grappled isn't anything big, if you're grappled then you use escape artist. Since you also have tons of skills (Int being your main stat) escape artist is very good.

- Damn Str 1... thats a -10 str. That would suck if you wanted to try to carry anything.

Permanent tenser's floating disk? Or just hope that I can put a 13-14 in strength for a 3-4.

Don't you get a bonus to carrying capacity if your a quadruped? just enough so I can carry around some crystals and my bunny-armor (mithril chain), maby a hedband or something. I won't be carrying a weapon so it won't be THAT bad, I just need to carry my "cloathing" (robes, magic jewelry, bracers, ect...) and afew crystals. All the "clothing" will be fitted for a tiny character, so wight won't be that bad, but the crystals may be a problem, depending on how manny I want to carry around. Thankfully psionic tatoos don't wiegh anything.

Better yet a Bag of holding. Then get someone to carry it for you, and since your Tiny, you can ride on a Human without difficulty. So you can use the strongest member of your party as a "mount". When ever you want a Dojre or something you can have access to it. Intill you can get Thrallherder level and have willing slaves. :evillaugh

BTW does your +2HD cancel out the 1/2HD and make it 1HD?

A tibbit is basically an 'evolved' cat familiar, progressed into a race. They're small, catlike humanoids with some fitting stats, but their realy ability is an alternate form of a housecat. Usable at will. Such an adorable race...

This is a Homebrewed race right. I remember it now yet can't figure out what it was. :P

Who would expect a bunny of doing anything? I mean it would be a cruel joke to have the a RABBIT calling the shots. Especially a rabbit that likes to inflict pain on others. What better way to get people to do what they want? Cute Wabbit + Charm/Dominate = Payday. :D

Actually Tibbits are from a Dragon Magazine issue, can't remember which right now, but I'm pretty sure it's in Dragon Compendium.

@Muglock: If you're a psion, you really don't lose anything from being a bunny. You're physical stats are all but void as a psion, so you get all the benefits. Nice AC bonuses, attack bonuses for those nasty touch powers, a 50ft run speed to keep you out of melee, and the great surprise element. Think; you walk into a room, and see three figures. There's a hulking half-orc with a greatsword, a halfling in the back with a pair of daggers and shifty eyes, and a wizard absorbed in his spellbook. Oh, and there's a small rabbit chewing on some grass in the corner. Now, what are you going to attack first? I can guarentee you it wouldn't be the rabbit. Plus they're so darn cute.

Cool, though that seams better for a monster. Best thing about being a rabbit is it's +0 LA.

As others have said, irony. Your a small fuzzy bunny who makes people's heads explode and forces them to kill people. Also the image of a rabbit with a magical bunny-cloak, a headband or a helmet (preferably something like Magnito's from X-men), an amulet, a set of magical mithril chain, and a bunch of ioun stones floating around it makes me happy.

Even if thats not your style you have a great infiltraitor here, and one that is not your usual changling/alter self happy person or assassin. Basically you can do all this scouting and stuff without being rogue, but you have the added thrill and danger of being a small animal who can't fight thier way out of a situation.

Hmmm...The 2 HD might not be that bad a thing. Hide and move silently...are they class skills for a rabbit? I'm thinking about trying to do a 2 level dip into shadowdancer for hide in plain sight and evasion. Having A start of 5 skill points in hide and move silently could mean being able to be a shadowdancer at level 10 if I'm going strait psion. I could also take a level of elocater in thier to take shadowdancer at level 8 (hide, move silently, and perform are all class skills for it, and it advances manifester level). Also that would make me a floating bunny who can dodge charges. It would mean taking one pretty useless feat (spring attack) but it wouldn't cut into my manifester level.

Of course is there an easier way to get evasion that advances manefester level.

Yes, the four skills listed are class skills for the rabbit. (although with only 4 skill points total I only put points into spot and listen.)

If you're making a psionic bunny, Baleful Polymorph is suddenly your friend. He could have been a human psion, failed his fortitude save, but made his will save. He even gets to keep the free feat and skills from being human prior to the change. The down side is his physical ability scores will be set at the racial average for a bunny, and he'll need a magic item to talk. The upside is it doesn't cost him two hit dice.

Well convert Mindbender (CArc) into Psionics, dip one level into that, and you can communicate with everyone telepathically. :P

However it doesn't just say Physical Abilities:
The subject takes on all the statistics and special abilities of an average member of the new form in place of its own (With a few exceptions).

Your Int would go down very very low. To animal level. Which is bad, Baleful Polymorph is bad. The best bet is to either go with the Anthro Template or the Awaken Spell.

Uh....

The subject takes on all the statistics and special
abilities of an average member of the new form in place
of its own except as follows:
• The target retains its own alignment (and
personality, within the limits of the new form’s
ability scores).
• If the target has the shapechanger subtype, it
retains that subtype.
• The target retains its own hit points.
• The target is treated has having its normal Hit
Dice for purpose of adjudicating effects based
on HD, such as the sleep spell, though it uses
the new form’s base attack bonus, base save
bonuses, and all other statistics derived from Hit
Dice.
• The target also retains the ability to understand
(but not to speak) the languages it understood in
its original form. It can write in the languages it
understands, but only the form is capable of
writing in some manner (such as drawing in the
dirt with a paw).

With those exceptions, the target’s normal
game statistics are replaced by those of the new
form. The target loses all the special abilities it
has in its normal form, including its class
features.

These abilities and statistics return to normal if the effect is later ended.

The only thing I find that says that your mental scores..etc. return to normal would probably be
These abilities and statistics return to normal if the effect is later ended.
other than that, I don't see where it says that you keep mental stats.

Baleful Polymorph
Transmutation
Level: Drd 5, Sor/Wiz 5
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target: One creature
Duration: Permanent
Saving Throw: Fortitude negates, Will partial; see text
Spell Resistance: Yes
As polymorph, except that you change the subject into a Small or smaller animal of no more than 1 HD. If the new form would prove fatal to the creature the subject gets a +4 bonus on the save.
If the spell succeeds, the subject must also make a Will save. If this second save fails, the creature loses its extraordinary, supernatural, and spell-like abilities, loses its ability to cast spells (if it had the ability), and gains the alignment, special abilities, and Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores of its new form in place of its own. It still retains its class and level (or HD), as well as all benefits deriving therefrom (such as base attack bonus, base save bonuses, and hit points). It retains any class features (other than spellcasting) that aren’t extraordinary, supernatural, or spell-like abilities.
Incorporeal or gaseous creatures are immune to being polymorphed, and a creature with the shapechanger subtype can revert to its natural form as a standard action. That is the complete text of Baleful Polymorph. It refers back to Polymorph, which in turn refers back to Alter Self, which both stipulate that the creature keeps its own mental ability scores (INT/WIS/CHA). Note that Wild Shape also refers back to these spells. If a druid wild shapes into a dire bear, he is not forcibly reduced to INT 2. Polymorph
Transmutation
Level: Sor/Wiz 4
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Touch
Target: Willing living creature touched
Duration: 1 min./level (D)
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No
This spell functions like alter self, except that you change the willing subject into another form of living creature. The new form may be of the same type as the subject or any of the following types: aberration, animal, dragon, fey, giant, humanoid, magical beast, monstrous humanoid, ooze, plant, or vermin. The assumed form can’t have more Hit Dice than your caster level (or the subject’s HD, whichever is lower), to a maximum of 15 HD at 15th level. You can’t cause a subject to assume a form smaller than Fine, nor can you cause a subject to assume an incorporeal or gaseous form. The subject’s creature type and subtype (if any) change to match the new form.
Upon changing, the subject regains lost hit points as if it had rested for a night (though this healing does not restore temporary ability damage and provide other benefits of resting; and changing back does not heal the subject further). If slain, the subject reverts to its original form, though it remains dead.
The subject gains the Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution scores of the new form but retains its own Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores. It also gains all extraordinary special attacks possessed by the form but does not gain the extraordinary special qualities possessed by the new form or any supernatural or spell-like abilities.
Incorporeal or gaseous creatures are immune to being polymorphed, and a creature with the shapechanger subtype can revert to its natural form as a standard action. Alter Self
Transmutation
Level: Brd 2, Sor/Wiz 2
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: 10 min./level (D)
You assume the form of a creature of the same type as your normal form. The new form must be within one size category of your normal size. The maximum HD of an assumed form is equal to your caster level, to a maximum of 5 HD at 5th level. You can change into a member of your own kind or even into yourself.
You retain your own ability scores. Your class and level, hit points, alignment, base attack bonus, and base save bonuses all remain the same. You retain all supernatural and spell-like special attacks and qualities of your normal form, except for those requiring a body part that the new form does not have (such as a mouth for a breath weapon or eyes for a gaze attack).
You keep all extraordinary special attacks and qualities derived from class levels, but you lose any from your normal form that are not derived from class levels.
If the new form is capable of speech, you can communicate normally. You retain any spellcasting ability you had in your original form, but the new form must be able to speak intelligibly (that is, speak a language) to use verbal components and must have limbs capable of fine manipulation to use somatic or material components.
You acquire the physical qualities of the new form while retaining your own mind. Physical qualities include natural size, mundane movement capabilities (such as burrowing, climbing, walking, swimming, and flight with wings, to a maximum speed of 120 feet for flying or 60 feet for nonflying movement), natural armor bonus, natural weapons (such as claws, bite, and so on), racial skill bonuses, racial bonus feats, and any gross physical qualities (presence or absence of wings, number of extremities, and so forth). A body with extra limbs does not allow you to make more attacks (or more advantageous two-weapon attacks) than normal.
You do not gain any extraordinary special attacks or special qualities not noted above under physical qualities, such as darkvision, low-light vision, blindsense, blindsight, fast healing, regeneration, scent, and so forth.
You do not gain any supernatural special attacks, special qualities, or spell-like abilities of the new form. Your creature type and subtype (if any) remain the same regardless of your new form. You cannot take the form of any creature with a template, even if that template doesn’t change the creature type or subtype.
You can freely designate the new form’s minor physical qualities (such as hair color, hair texture, and skin color) within the normal ranges for a creature of that kind. The new form’s significant physical qualities (such as height, weight, and gender) are also under your control, but they must fall within the norms for the new form’s kind. You are effectively disguised as an average member of the new form’s race. If you use this spell to create a disguise, you get a +10 bonus on your Disguise check.
When the change occurs, your equipment, if any, either remains worn or held by the new form (if it is capable of wearing or holding the item), or melds into the new form and becomes nonfunctional. When you revert to your true form, any objects previously melded into the new form reappear in the same location on your body they previously occupied and are once again functional. Any new items you wore in the assumed form and can’t wear in your normal form fall off and land at your feet; any that you could wear in either form or carry in a body part common to both forms at the time of reversion are still held in the same way. Any part of the body or piece of equipment that is separated from the whole reverts to its true form.

Make sure you get a hat of disguise, and disguise all your tinysized gear as fur

Speaking of Tibbits and the like. I'm really interested in playing one in my next campiagn, but I have no idea what the stats are. Is it against the ToS to post those?

And if it's not, could someone please do it? :D

Thats odd, Hypertext d20 says:

Baleful Polymorph
Transmutation
Level: Drd 5, Sor/Wiz 5
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target: One creature
Duration: Permanent
Saving Throw: Fortitude negates, Will partial; see text
Spell Resistance: Yes

You change the subject into a Small or smaller animal of no more than 1 HD (such as a dog, lizard, monkey, or toad). The subject takes on all the statistics and special abilities of an average member of the new form in place of its own except as follows:

* The target retains its own alignment (and personality, within the limits of the new form’s ability scores).
* The target retains its own hit points.
* The target is treated has having its normal Hit Dice for purpose of adjudicating effects based on HD, such as the sleep spell, though it uses the new form’s base attack bonus, base save bonuses, and all other statistics derived from Hit Dice.
* The target also retains the ability to understand (but not to speak) the languages it understood in its original form. It can write in the languages it understands, but only the form is capable of writing in some manner (such as drawing in the dirt with a paw).

With those exceptions, the target’s normal game statistics are replaced by those of the new form. The target loses all the special abilities it has in its normal form, including its class features.

All items worn or carried by the subject fall to the ground at its feet, even if they could be worn or carried by the new form.

If the new form would prove fatal to the creature (for example, if you polymorphed a landbound target into a fish, or an airborne target into a toad), the subject gets a +4 bonus on the save.

If the subject remains in the new form for 24 consecutive hours, it must attempt a Will save. If this save fails, it loses its ability to understand language, as well as all other memories of its previous form, and its Hit Dice and hit points change to match an average creature of its new form. These abilities and statistics return to normal if the effect is later ended.

Incorporeal or gaseous creatures are immune to baleful polymorph, and a creature with the shapechanger subtype (such as a lycanthrope or a doppelganger) can revert to its natural form as a standard action (which ends the spell’s effect).

That's pretty much what I was going to suggest. Since you're still going to be pretty fragile, see if one of your party members would allow you to ride around in his backpack. During a fight your "mount" can continue fighting while you zap your enemies from his backpack. Besides being effective, it would look so adorable (must...fight...cuteness..>_<).

The only problem I see with Baleful Polymorph is that it can be dispelled (Duration Permanent, not instant) and disappears in an anti-magic field. Imagine having that cute little bunny perched on your shoulder suddenly turn into a 250 pound orc or something. :D

Just a quick note: Baleful Polymorph was changed in the errata. The new version works just as Yaba describes.

Just a quick note: Baleful Polymorph was changed in the errata. The new version works just as Yaba describes. Thanks for reminding me about the errata. Apparently the latest (and only the latest) version of the PHB 3.5 errata changes it to the form he's quoting. I've been working off the official WotC system reference document, which apparently wasn't updated with the change. (I even downloaded it again to check. They haven't updated it.)

Um, Drucilla_Rocks_my_Socks, I kind of stole your idea today, is that OK with you?

In short, earlier today I was playing a Tibbit character I made for the first time (a race which has the ability to turn into a cat), and I enjoyed playing a small furry animal so much that I never once transformed into my humanoid form, so when the gaming session was over I talked to my DM about completely redoing my character just how you're doing your psionic rabbit.

It was a pretty new and unusual gaming experience for me, which turned out to be a lot of fun, so thanks for posting this thread. It's a bit of a challenge keeping a small animal alive in battle, but I'm sure that you'll enjoy playing your rabbit.

Keep in mind rabbits can be bred quite large, you could easily have a small rabbit instead of tiny.

Sorry to post so late but I have only just now found this thread, as I am researching this very subject. I did not read all the posts yet but I will. The spell awaken is a 5th lvl spell availible to druids. The spell can be cast on either plants or animals and they gain humanlike sentience. I have an awakened Rabbit pc that is currently playing as a barbarian.

Yeah, a barbarian with a -8 racial strength penalty :D His stats and such are in my sig, including how he can use weapons. I took him on the DND basic game box kit adventure solo and he smeared everyone. He even took down the dragon :P

wouldn't a rabbit be diminutive? after all, Tiny is the size of the cat, not a rabbit.

BTW, the smallest, weakest thing in our campaign (my Pseudodragon Ninja 5 cohort) is nowhere near bad in combat. with Weapon Finesse and Dex 22, this Tiny little dragon has already used his Sleep poison to take out a CR 17 Mind Flayer Sorcerer with his little sting. (that ruined the entire month's campaign plot, lol)
BEWARE! the little thing in the corner is ALWAYS the thing which will end up ripping people to shreds, no matter what you try to do to prevent it.

here is how you play a rabbit
Awaken
Transmutation
Level: Drd 5
Components: V, S, DF, XP
Casting Time: 24 hours
Range: Touch
Target: Animal or tree touched
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Will negates
Spell Resistance: Yes

You awaken a tree or animal to humanlike sentience. To succeed, you must make a Will save (DC 10 + the animal’s current HD, or the HD the tree will have once awakened).

The awakened animal or tree is friendly toward you. You have no special empathy or connection with a creature you awaken, although it serves you in specific tasks or endeavors if you communicate your desires to it.

An awakened tree has characteristics as if it were an animated object, except that it gains the plant type and its Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores are each 3d6. An awakened plant gains the ability to move its limbs, roots, vines, creepers, and so forth, and it has senses similar to a human’s.

An awakened animal gets 3d6 Intelligence, +1d3 Charisma, and +2 HD. Its type becomes magical beast (augmented animal). An awakened animal can’t serve as an animal companion, familiar, or special mount.

An awakened tree or animal can speak one language that you know, plus one additional language that you know per point of Intelligence bonus (if any).
XP Cost

250 XP.

once its awakened you can take classes in psion or whatever.

I played in a campaign where every now & then we'd run into a half fiend, egoist monkey named Clide.

The monkey found itself in a magic shop, and got a headband of intellect. Then the monkey spent a while travelling around the land, finding himself.

... the problem with Awaken, as has been mentioned, is that you're forced to take magical beast hit dice. :(
