Hello everyone. I am sure this has been debated time and again, but I am having trouble making a final descision. I am making a two weapon fighting character and I cant choose between whispergnome or human. Can you please let me know which you choose and why? Thanks

What class are you going to be? Whisper gnomes are powerful, but they might not benifit certain builds. Humans have the advantage of being larger (more damage with the weapons) and they get a bonus feat. The bonus feat can be very handy for TWF builds (as they require lots of feats).

Oh I guess I should have posted class. I am thinking Swordsage 1/Warblade 1 (we are starting at 3rd lvl). I haven't really gotten past that yet

Well, you have a few routes:
I don't have ToB, so I can't really give you any useful input there. From what I understand, the Warblade is considered by many to be an effective replacement of the Fighter. Perhaps Warblade levels would be a good idea.

Dipping into Fighter up to two levels is not a bad idea for bonus feats. You'll certainly want feats for a good TWF build.

Ranger is an obvious choice. With the TWF style, you get some feats to help, but you get your best benifit if you're a straight Ranger (no multiclassing). This is because you'll pick up Improved TWF at 6th level (when you get a +6 BAB). With two other levels spent in other classes, you're forced to wait until a higher BAB to pick up the feat. So in this case, I'd suggest not taking Ranger (or at least not past 2nd level).

Rogue can be a good choice. You'll take a hit on your BAB, but remember that when you flank an opponent, all of your attacks qualify as sneak attacks. As you gain more attacks per round, this will pump out some serious damage. There are also feats you can take to help aid in this. Vexing Flanker increases your flanking attack bonus from +2 to +4 (but you also need Combat Reflexes as a prereq). Weapon Focus(X) is nice to compensate for having a lower BAB. I would strongly suggest using the same type of weapon in each hand.

Anyway, that's my advice on classes. ;) Again, as for race, I'd probably consider human to be the superior choice, unless you put most of your levels into Rogue. What's a whisper gnome's favored class (could be important)?

I would personally go for a whisper gnome with the shadowblade feat. Adding dex to damage can overcome the problems with being small and the penalties to strength. I would personally ditch the warblade and go straight swordsage if you go for whisper gnome. Like previous posters have said some feats will be needed for this build though. I'd try to take a flaw, if your dm allows, and get twf, weapon finesse, and shadowblade by level 3.

Orcs.
+2 attack from str and +2/+1 on damage rolls.
Just get a pair of Sundark Goggles from RotD.

Sticking to Human and Whisper Gnome?
Depens on what type of twf you are going to play.
High dex light armored whisper gnome ranger with weapon finesse and many ranks in hide and move silently is a cool concept IMO.

Dwarf? Take an Urgrosh in one hand, a throwing hammer in the off-hand. If you hold it with only one hand, you can use only one end of the Urgrosh, but you can choose which one, switching end should be either a free action or a free action made during a move (like picking up a weapon when you have +1 BAB). If a foe is annoying you at some distance, throw your hammer, then grab your Urgrosh with both hands.

If you don't get ranger levels, the whisper gnome's higher strength can help to qualify for the TWF feats.

And if you're ranger, you're limited to light armor, so DEX is still useful. Unless you play a race with great Natural Armor bonus. Lizardfolk, anyone? But why play a two-weapon warrior when you can play a two-claw one?
