| lifebleeder07-03-07, 10:37 PM | I was bored earlier, so I decided to write up some stats for various 40k races. I've got these few done so far. TAU: Humanoid (Tau) Medium: As Medium creatures, Tau have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size. Tau base land speed is 30 feet. Scent (Ex): As ability in MM. All Tau suffer a -1 penalty to all melee attack rolls and Initiative checks, due to their soceity's emphasis on ranged warfare. Automatic Language: Tau. Bonus Languages: Common/Low Gothic, Auran, Aquan, Terran, Ignan, Dwarven, Gnome, and Sylvan (Add High Gothic in 40k campaigns.) +2 Constitution, -2 Charisma: Fire Caste warriors are tough, but undiplomatic. Free Weapon Focus feat for any ranged weapon. Favored Class: Fighter +2 Strength, -2 Dexterity: Earth Caste laborers are powerful, but not all that hypercoordinated. Free Skill Focus (Craft [any one]) feat. Favored Class: Rogue OGRYN: Monstrous Humanoid (Human, Ogryn) +4 Strength, -2 Dexterity, +2 Constitution, -4 Intelligence (min. 3), -2 Charisma: Ogryns are physical brutes, but not especially brilliant, coordinated or social. Large: As a Large creature, an ogryn gains a -1 size penalty to Armor Class, a -1 size penalty on attack rolls, and a -4 size penalty on Hide checks, but it uses larger weapons than humans use, and its lifting and carrying limits are double of those of a Medium character. Space/Reach: 10 ft./10 ft. Ogryn base land speed is 30 feet. Racial Hit Dice: A troll begins with three levels of giant, which provide 3d8 Hit Dice, a base attack bonus of +2, and base saving throw bonuses of Fort +3, Ref +1, and Will +1. Racial Skills: An ogryn's giant levels give it skill points equal to 6 x (2 + Int modifier, minimum 1). Its class skills are Listen and Spot. Racial Feats: An ogryn's giant levels give it two feats. +2 natural armor bonus. Illiterate: As barbarian. Bonus Feat: Power Attack Automatic Languages: Common (Low Gothic). Bonus Languages: Giant, Orc, and Goblin. Favored Class: Barbarian. |
| Jaxgaret07-04-07, 12:55 AM | I would actually give Tau flat modifiers, like Humans. Remember, IG are Humans. Space Marines are super-Humans. Perhaps a -1 to all melee attacks and Initiative rolls would make more sense, to represent their low WS and well, Initiative :) |
| Strogg07-04-07, 08:33 AM | you know there is already a book out for Warhammer 40k? it is call i think it D20.-40K |
| Dnarris07-04-07, 09:26 AM | I'd give Tau a +1 innate bonus to ranged attacks. |
| GreatOne07-04-07, 01:43 PM | http://www.geocities.com/skrittiblak/ that link should help ya out. A group of peeps has actaully come up with a game system based on 40k. Its good and they have all the playable races in it. Check it out. |
| Ecalsneerg07-04-07, 02:22 PM | I don't think Tau would speak Low Gothic by default. There's no rule saying all PC races must have "Common." Most players would likely go for fire caste Tau, while only Water caste diplomats and Aun have need of the language of the ignorant human scourge. |
| pinkbunny07-04-07, 02:44 PM | I'd give Tau a +1 innate bonus to ranged attacks. according to fluffs, tau are as good as humans, because they tend to be more accurate, but they respond more slowly, thus not being good at responding to the enemis movement and less likely to hit them |
| Kelmourne07-04-07, 03:57 PM | Tau selective breeding has gotten to the point where each caste would have different ability score bonuses and minuses. I was thinking something like this: Fire Caste: +2 Str, -2 Cha Air Caste: +2 Dex, -2 Str Earth Caste: +2 Con, -2 Dex Water Caste:+2 Cha, +2 Wis, -2 Con Ethereal: +2 Int/Wis, +4 Cha (Ethereals would have +1 or more level Adj.) |
| Kelmourne07-04-07, 04:02 PM | Also for Eldar it would be something like this: Medium Size 30ft base land speed +2 Wis, Dex -2 Con, Cha Eldar are wise and elegant but of fraile physical stature and are distant and untrustworthy Someone please come up with some reasonable miscelaneous benefits please because i want to play one in a D20 future campaign my group might be doing soon. |
| lifebleeder07-05-07, 08:02 PM | Hi. I'll address these in order. Jaxgaret: Good idea about the -1 to melee rolls. Consider it in. Strogg, GreatOne: I'm fully aware of Skrittiblak's (very excellent) version of the races, but I like a challenge. Ecalsneerg: When I wrote this, I was using a blanket for all Tau. However, knowing what one's enemy is imprtant, ne? It's going to bonus language now. Oh, and the term "mon-kaigh" works very well. Kelmourne: Eldar untrustworthy...yah, I see. And the Tau ability adjustments are noted. Probably have to give the Ethereals something like a charm person effect at will, usable on Tau only. Thank you for feedback, all adjustments to be made in initial post. -Bleeder |
