Races of Destiny: do half-elves get the option of the human subtype without a feat? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I was wondering: I know that there's a "human heritage" feat which would allow a half-elf to take it and have both the human and elf subtypes, and get four extra skill points in the deal, but I've heard -- perhaps incorrectly -- that there's also an option in Races of Destiny for half-elves (and half-orcs, etc) to take the human subtype as a character option, while losing the elf subtype, for free. Is this true, or just something I made up and thought I read somewhere?

Sidebar on page 150 titled Variant: Half-humans and humanlike races. Half-elves and Half-orcs would have two subtypes, but the real change comes for races such as the Plantetouched and Half-breeds.

Considering how weak the half-elf is overall, allowing it to also have "human blood" wouldn't hurt for the race. Some dms may have a hessy fit about changing a core race, but the poor half-elf needs all the help it can get.

Thanks. Huzzah for half-elves with Able Learner! Maybe!
