| Zookeeper02-12-08, 07:44 PM | Does a monstrous race (Ex. Hound Archon) lose some of its racial skills if the class chosen (Ex. Paladin) has those skills as cross class skills?? A Hound Archon has Monster Manual pg 18 Racial Skills: A Hound Archon's Outsider levels give it skill points equal to 9x(8+Int modifier). Its class skills are Concentration, Hide, Jump, Listen, Move Silently, Sense Motive, Spot, and Survival. A Paladin does not have Move Silently as a class skill, and in the Monster Manual pg 17 Stat Block for Hound Archon Hero, 11th level Paladin it does not list Move Silently as a Skill. Just a little confused because no matter what class I am, I am always a Hound Archon. Thanks in advance for your responces. |

Class skills are only class skills when you choose a class when going up in level. Change class, change class skills. However... Many people simplify by saying that once a class skill always a class skill. Honestly, its alot easier that way. The above method is supposed to maintain balance so that not everyone takes a level of rogue (for example). :D |

I understand that, but you are talking about changing classes "Change Classes, change Class Skills". A racial skill should, IMHO, always be a skill, after all with very few exceptions I can not change races. Racial bonuses always applies, weather a class skill or not. (Ex. +2 Racial Bonus on Survival, or +8 Racial Bonus on Swim - other races have these type of bonuses) However... Many people simplify by saying that once a class skill always a class skill.
