04-22-08, 05:01 PM Do races with Racial HD get the normal starting free feat (and free feat every three levels), or is that already decided for the creature in its template?

04-22-08, 05:15 PM Races with racial hitdice get a feat at 1st hitdie, 3rd hitdie and every 3 hitdice thereafter, same as a character whose hitdice are from class levels alone. The racial and class hitdice are added up to determine how many feats you have, as well as ability score boosts, skill points/ranks (the quad skill points are for 1st hitdie, not 1st class level, btw), etc.

You don't have to stick with the feats that race normally selects with its racial hitdice, you can select different ones, but you have the same limits on total feats as a character without racial hidice. The only exceptions are feats that are listed as bonus feats for the race.

04-22-08, 05:21 PM A creature in the books represents what an average member of that race is and can do. If a character is play a creature with racial HD, then that player chooses a feat at the 1st HD and then every 3rd HD like normal.

For example, if someone played an ogre, assuming that the starting ECL was 6, that character would have two feats of his choice by virtue of his racial HD.

The only time where feats can't be switched out is if they're bonus feats for that monster.
