| Kn1ves09-22-07, 08:31 PM | What are your people's thoughts on Raptorians breeding with other races? Raptorians lay eggs like a bird so I'm fairly positive they can't breed with other mammals but what about another half breed like a Tiefling or half fiend? A Tiefling descended from a Vrock might be a suitable partner for a Raptorian. Are there any other bird like fiends, demons or devils? I'm not really looking for stats for a half breed it's more for a roleplaying situation. |
| gullas09-23-07, 08:46 AM | k... umh , I would say that the Raptorians "could" breed with other races:) |
| Salla09-23-07, 02:01 PM | I would generally rule that there would be genetic incompatibility and no offspring of *any* sort could come from a Raptoran breeding with anything that isn't an outsider, elemental, or dragon. Unless I'm playing an established gameworld, I generally do this with everybody, so there's no half-elf or half-orc either. Only things with sufficient inherent magic can cross-species interbreed, and that basically moves you one 'step' down the evolutionary ladder. For example Dragon + Human = Half-Dragon Half-Dragon + Human = Draconic Human Draconic Human + Human = Human Fiend + Human = Half-Fiend Half-Fiend + Human = Fiendish Human Fiendish Human + Human = Tiefling Tiefling + Human = Human Eventually, the power is sufficiently diluted that it doesn't generate a true 'empowered offspring', though obvious those offspring can take heritage feats, or classes like Sorcerer or Warlock, that tie to that background. |
| Kn1ves09-24-07, 01:06 AM | Well like I said I'm not really interested in what traits and offspring would have but more if there could be offspring to begin with. I'm writing my characters backstory and the way it played out in my head was that he wound up falling in love with the woman who trained him to be a Beguiler. The woman who trained him is a Tiefling, or possibly a Half-Fiend I haven't decided yet, and is the daughter of a Tiefling that my characters grandmother had had a relationship with for several years during her Walk of The Four Winds. They ended their tryst as lovers because they could never form a family due to incompatible genetic and physical characteristics and she returned to her cliffside village and eventually had a Raptorian family with a man she came to love very much. When my character left for his Walk of The Four Winds his grandmother gave him the name of the man she knew a long time ago and he eventually contacted him and his traveling band of gypsies. Standard story from there, boy meets girl, boy gets trained in the magic and sneaky arts by girl, boy and girl fall in love. Now I'm trying to figure out if there's any way they could have a real relationship and how to progress the story line. |
| Kn1ves09-24-07, 01:16 AM | Double post. |
| Tedronai09-24-07, 04:56 AM | I'm pretty sure that if it's possible to create viable offspring by combining a Blink Dog and a Halfling, that it would be possible to create viable offspring from just about any combination you can come up with. If all else fails, 'A wizard did it.' Heck, it's possible to have a Half-Dragon, Half-Celestial, Shadow, Vivacious, Axiomatic Warforged. That thing is descended from at least two different types of creatures other than it's own, yet is incapable of breeding, and is native to at least three different planes (none of which is the material plane). When the wizard's done cooking that up, getting a Raptoran to successfully breed with an Elf will be child's play. |
| Arscura09-24-07, 06:41 AM | For example Dragon + Human = Half-Dragon Half-Dragon + Human = Draconic Human Draconic Human + Human = Human Fiend + Human = Half-Fiend Half-Fiend + Human = Fiendish Human Fiendish Human + Human = Tiefling Tiefling + Human = Human Sounds like a list I gave in another topic about cross-breeding half-breeds of orcs and elfs ;) |
| Fireclave09-24-07, 08:33 AM | 1) Anything is possible with enough love, including the impossible. 2) The magical natures of magic in a magic universe defy the normal logic of real world physics and makes such a coupling possible (read: it works for dragons) 3) A wizard did it 4) Adopt 5) Who needs kids :D |
| Kn1ves09-24-07, 01:46 PM | 1) Anything is possible with enough love, including the impossible. 3) A wizard did it As much as the first suggestion is great for a love story I just can't wrap my head around an avian species breeding with a mammilian species. Maybe I'll tack on another goal for my character, seeking out a wizard to create a spell that will allow us to sire a child. I'm also trying to figure out all of the avian like demons and devils that could lead to a compatible Tiefling or Half-Fiend mate. Thus far all I can rememeber are Vrocks and Pazuzu himself. Are there any avian outsiders of a good bent that I'm forgetting? |
| Fireclave09-24-07, 02:21 PM | As much as the first suggestion is great for a love story I just can't wrap my head around an avian species breeding with a mammilian species. Then you're not trying hard enough :D (or you don't have enough love, hard to say). It's no more weird than gaint, flying, element breathing lizard breeding with mammals (and everything else that moves for that matter). |
| ToastedAmphibian09-25-07, 07:45 PM | Dragons are just overgrown, fire breathing Chihuahuas. They hump anything, have a nasty temper, and are overlly possessive. |
| warforged5109209-25-07, 08:45 PM | Anything in D&D can pretty much breed with anything else because of powerful wizards and other arcane users. Besides any hybrid race (half-fiend, half-dragon, half-elf, half-etc.) should be sterile, look at ligers and mules. But with the magic and a flexible rule system, anything is possible. p.s. I think Raptoran are humanoids, like orcs, but I don't know whether or not this affects your problem. |
| ToastedAmphibian09-25-07, 09:27 PM | Lizard folk are also humanoids, so no, creature type probably dosnt make any diffrence. Lizards, badgers, and eagles are all "Animals". The whole Avan/Reptillian/Mammilan thing dosnt seem to have anythign to do with your creature type. |
| Kn1ves09-26-07, 03:09 PM | I finally settled on her being a Half-Fey Tiefling. It'll give me some great leway with her description and the fiend Folio flat out says that Fey can breed with anything so I'll just have that carry over to her. |
| ToastedAmphibian09-26-07, 05:36 PM | Wait..... so basically, a Fiend hoooked up with a human, and then the half-fiend hooked up with a human, then the fendish hooked up with a human, who then hooked up with a centaur? Then the half-fey Tiefling decided to mate with a bird man? \ Sounds about right. Edit: Might want to through in an elf somwhere along the line though. Elves get into everything.... |
| Templario09-27-07, 08:32 AM | Are there any avian outsiders of a good bent that I'm forgetting? Avoral (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/avoral.htm) :) |

I think Raptoran are humanoids, like orcs, but I don't know whether or not this affects your problem. There once has been a fertile mule. Maybe an odd mutation, but most likely the mutation removed a very simple barrier and not made a crosbreed fertile, that usually is completely unable to breed. |
| jradd77709-27-07, 04:25 PM | Sounds like you already solved your problem and i don't know if the flavor matches what you wanted but why not make the Beguiler female a Kenku? They're at least bird-like. P.S. - With the mimicry Kenku would make a great Beguiler |
| taradusis09-27-07, 07:23 PM | You might also want to consider a Fiendish harpy? |
| ToastedAmphibian09-27-07, 08:03 PM | Who dosnt consider mateing fiendish harpies? |
| Kn1ves09-28-07, 01:25 AM | You might also want to consider a Fiendish harpy? Who dosnt consider mateing fiendish harpies? Actually I did but, well, yuck. Who would want to? Well besides elves, dragons, fey, elementals, angels and the occasional wizard. Wait..... so basically, a Fiend hoooked up with a human, and then the half-fiend hooked up with a human, then the fendish hooked up with a human, who then hooked up with a centaur? Well the family tree now goes something like this. Sorceres knocked boots with a fiend, Half-Fiend did the down and dirty with a nymph and then Half-Fey Tiefling fluttered her eyelashes at a Raptorian. But if I have my way I'll soon be a Shadow-Walker Raptorian so who knows what that genetic stewpot will come up with for the next generation.:evillaugh |
