O.K so one of my friends cued me for a future game where will start a comparitively higher levels (12+), he ha'snt set the level yet but I'd like a few suggestions for something big, mean and scary to play. And when I'm saying big, mean and scary I don't mean ogre, orc, whatever. I mean dragon, Baatazu, Tanaari scary.

I'm well aware that those races come with very high LA and yes I'm planning on playing a spellcaster class of such a race (as well I'm shooting for maybe a few inherent spellcaster levels or spell like abilities to spew around). But as long as we're talking ECL 11+ (maximum 19) does anybody have any suggestions

See I want to play the kind of thing that will send people fleeing in terror at the mere sight of him. It's more to have fun as he just innocently walks into town and everybody suddenly disapears.

So anythoughts

"I mean dragon, Baatazu, Tanaari scary. "

Dont get much scarier than that.

Children. Nuff said. They creep me the hell out. Especially children with psionic abilities.

Illithid psion/slayer? Expansion takes care of the "big," and you are going to freak people quite quickly when you start eating brains. Other ideas that could work:
- ogre mage could work (although it would help if the SR scaled),
- rakshasa might actually be worth its racial levels and HD
- minotaur (shaman, cleric, etc) - a pity for the intelligence and charisma, but if you have 1 skill point/level anyway. Ogre can also work
- drider: won't work in every game, but can be quite creepy

Be a Necropolotian Dread Necromancer. No LA, but you are Undead and will have an aura of fear, not to mention an army of powered up undead minions. If you are a powerful spellcaster with Identifing marks, suck as a tatoo. Even if you are a kobold, people will flee from you..

Dragon scary, eh?

How's this for a low LA solutions: A Dragonborn character whose original race was half-orc, half-giant, or some other race of intimidating stature. Go for a class with intimidate as a class skill and max it until you qualify for the Frightful Presence feat (Draconomicon).

A titan perhaps?

If not then a Storm giant would be adequate.

A drow half-dragon anything. That would creep even an illithid out. :)

Check out complete mage, I believe there is a class called the nightmare spinner, or something similar, which gets some cool abilities with cause fear being among them and an extra illusion spell per spell level. Also check out heroes of horror which has feats related to entering dreams and the dream world. Enter into the bag, bad fighters dreams and make him helpless. It is a good way to be scary.

Thing is if you ask me the monster manual Titans and the Storm giant aren't scary per say they more on the majestic, glorious, towering scale

Besides either of those races has an ECL in the upper 20+ (wich would be to much for my purposes)

That said I hate the dragonborn template (and believe it or not more because of it's flavor then it's inherent cheese0

As well necropolitan while scary gets into trouble with clerics, sun domain spells etc. Finally, while armies of undead are fun, I don't want an army. The way I see it I want to be sufficiently scary enough to cause the peasants to flee in abject terror without the need of an army.

That said some of Shaman's suggestions sound good ( I especially like the Rakshasa and Illithid idea). Illithid might also work since the errata in the expanded Psionic's handbook says that illithids lose their psionic abilities (except for telepathy and mind blast) and instead get 9 free levels of
of telepath psion (I'd start at ECL 16 with a decent 10 levels of Telepath)

That said looking at outsiders I'm wondering what the ECL for a Nyacalatoh might be (you know that 4 armed yuggoloth thing)

Any way I still got a few more days till the game starts so I'm still listening to suggestions...
