I have scanned my books, but cannot confirm the answer to the following question:
Can one changeling recognize another changeling, even when disguised?

Am I just overlooking something? I seem to remember reading a passage that stated a changeling is able to recognize another disguised changeling do to some kind of racial bond. Or maybe I read that they cannot be recognized. Maybe in of my Eberron source books or Dragon Magazine? Or was it one of the players in my group? Oh, bloody heck--I just can't remember. Can someone help me out with this?

Thanks in advance!

Not automatically, no.

They have to make a Spot vs. Disguise like everyone else.

Yeah, at first, I thought maybe you were right, but I've looked through the only places that I would have seen anything like that... it's not there. It also doesn't really make much sense, they'd have to have some sort of "minor trueseeing" to have that ability and I doubt that it would be arbitrarily limited to other Changelings only... why... because they all disguise themselves in some similar fashion? There's not really any logical way to justify how it could happen unless it were broader than simply other Changelings. But, hey, I'm no expert either, maybe it is out there somewhere but again, I definitely couldn't find it.

When I read the post, I thought I had heard it somewhere too. Thinking about it for a while, I believe that song dragons can recognise each other in human form - that may be where you got it.

Thanks for responding so quickly everyone. I continued my search last night, thumbing through my books (including old Dragon issues), and still found nothing. I'm glad to see your resopnses support my findings!

I couldn't convince myself of this special ability either, jradd777. Thanks for the extra rationalization, too. It always helps to break down these questions to find out what is really being asked. You nailed it with your "minor trueseeing" comment.

The thing I thought I read suggested that a changeling's form changing ability, because it effectively only grants a +10 to disguise checks, is not a perfect transformation. This extended into the idea that very subtle changeling features were not fully morphed during the change, and that other changelings would be able to spot these traces of the true self. This was the argument that had me puzzled. However, if three other people can't find any reference to a "changling recognition" bonus, and none of us can voice support for it, then I either made it up, read it from a forum debate, or found it in an obscure article.

Either way, if it's not in a sourcebook--and it's not, then I'm feeding it to Tina. Sorry, Napoleon Dynamite reference.

I have to pack my books, dice, and minis for an all-day gaming session across town. Time to go!

Later, all.

Only thing Ive heard of along those line was a few houserule tweaks made by a friend of mine's GM, but that's it.
