| Fatalis_90208-30-07, 06:32 AM | My gut instinct says, "No." If you lose level adjustment, you would be at a lower ECL, and would gain experience faster, therefore catching up with the party and restoring your old ECL. If you gain LA, you would be at a higher ECL, and lose out on Exp, allowing your party to catch up. |

I'll have to check when I have my books handy. Anyway, question still stands - if you are a character in a race with high level adjustment - and you get reincarnated as - say - a human, or if you are reincarnated as a creature with higher level adjustment - do you loose levels equivalent to the LA? |
| zook1shoe66608-30-07, 10:07 AM | well it since you lose EVERYTHING but the class levels.... i would most definitely say you lose the ECL from your previous race... and then gain the ECL of whatever you turn into. now you get to compute your new ECL to determine the XP ratio you get ;) |

| Neutronium_Dragon08-30-07, 03:08 PM | For the sake of ease of gameplay, it's probably best to keep characters at the same total level when they're reincarnated rather than trying to punt them up or down based on the new creature type's ECL. The latter creates too many problems with the party dynamic, and actually removing the ECL without substituting class levels in its place amounts to robbing the character of levels which he earned. |

Although, it might make him gain a level. Example 2 HD and 2 LA=ECL 4. He has exp needed for 4th plus whatever he gains. So he has 6 K. Even if he loses a level. He still has 3 K. If he loses LA. He gains a level. Because 3K is enough for level 3 (which he was nit before). So losing LA if reincarnation does is beneficial for gaining levels. But dying making you gain levels is just stupid so you shouldn't add or take away LA in my opinion. |
