| Maldroc_the_Mad03-24-07, 06:20 PM | hey guys my friend wants to play as a satyr, but he doesnt know what class to play with. it says bard is their favoured class but he doesnt want to play a bard (he hates them). any ideas as to what to play? Classes from any book is welcome, except it has to be from Version 3.5. thanks |
| bobothechimp03-24-07, 06:31 PM | A lively, happy, silly, singing rogue? I couldn't think of anything a satyr would be, other than a fun loving drunk. |
| Borris03-24-07, 06:36 PM | Satyrs make poor primary spellcasters due to their many racial hit dice. They also make poor warriors, with their low hit points, bad Base Attack Bonus, and no bonus to Strength. On the other hand, with their good speed, bonuses to all abilities except Strength and on Hide, Listen, Move Silently, and Spot check, as well as Alertness as a bonus feat, they make great stealth-type characters. Classes like Rogue, Scout, or Ninja (the latter two from Complete Adventurer) should work especially well. Archery-oriented Rangers may also be a good choice. |
| jaw4ever03-24-07, 06:38 PM | A Satyr Monk with the Drunked Master PrC. :monk: |
| Maldroc_the_Mad03-24-07, 06:42 PM | thanks for the help, but apparently he's not going stayr anymore. now he just wants to know of some good monster races to play as. can you guys help? |
| Maldroc_the_Mad03-24-07, 06:44 PM | it can be as wild as possible, our DM i allowing it and kind of likes the idea of a motley crew. So far we have a Tiefling Duskblade, Warforged Rogue and Raptoran Cleric. |
| Maraxus03-24-07, 07:37 PM | A Satyr is definitly cool, as long as your dm is a liberally nice guy. This means either the pipe are traded in for the 2 LAs (seriously, fey HD are horrible, and 5 of them are more then enough to balance out the Satyrs abilities), or the character get's the pipes too and they are allways at caster Level HD*2 and the Satyr should be able to take a feat or something to somewhat change the HD cap of 4 on the sleep effect (My suggestion would be to make it able to effect your level +4 this way) To stay horny, the Minotaur is nice. The ECL is heavy, however. Then he could look at the Lycantrophes. Animals of interest (from the Min/Maxing point of view): 1hd Small Viper -4/+6/+0 Nat+3, small, Weapon Finesse Dire Rat +0/+6/+2, Nat+1, Small, Weapon Finesse Badger -2/+6/+4, Nat+1, Small, Track, Weapon Finesse Dog +2/+6/+4, Nat+1, Small, Track Eagle +0/+4/+2, Nat+1, Small (Fly 80), Weapon Finesse Baboon +4/+4/+2, Nat+1, Med! 2hd: Dog, Riding +4/+4/+4 Nat+4, Med 3hd: Dire Badger: +4/+6/+8,Nat+3, Med Cheetah: +6/+8/+4, Nat+1, Med (Sprint) Crocodile: +8/+2/+6, Nat+4, Med (hold Breath) Leopard: +6/+8/+4,Nat+1, Med 4hd: Deinonychus: +8/+4/+8, Nat+5, Medium Dire Bat: +6/+12/+6, Nat+5, Large (Blindsense) 5hd: Dire Wolverine +12/+6/+8, Nat+4, large 6hd: Bear, Brown +16/+2/+8, nat+5, Large |
| runestar03-24-07, 10:32 PM | What role is he planning on filling out? Monstrous PCs are quite notorious for being confined to very specific roles. |
| Ace_of_time03-24-07, 10:58 PM | Ninja |
| runestar03-24-07, 11:25 PM | He will want a rogue-like monstrous race then. Posiondusk lizardfolk seems like a reasonable choice. |
| Ace_of_time03-24-07, 11:47 PM | I just want to see a black garbed goatman! |
| Ace_of_time03-24-07, 11:50 PM | I can see it now in the forest practicing throws of throwing stars at sprites. |
| The_Shaman03-25-07, 07:34 AM | Centaurs are pretty solid imo... The extra HD are a pain, but they're otherwise quite good for some brawling (drunken or not). I remember going "Hmm" when I saw a half-dragon centaur on a picture in one of the splatbooks. Now that would make one heck of a combo, especially with the feat that allows half-dragons to use their breath weapon every 1d4 rounds. Although, looking at the group, you could use some extra firepower or psionics. I'm thinking aranea (gish-like, try to push for a LA+3 one as now it's a bit overpriced), sylph (quite a few sorc levels) or a tiefling/aasimar/genasi spellcaster. If you don't mind psionics, there are some good ideas there too: - If there are Star Wars fans in the group, I think you could throw them a Blue Yoda-ripoff :D . - Duergar is quite good for a psi-gishes, and if you can get the feat to activate your expansion (at increased manifester level) for a fixed PP cost it can definitely be worth it. If you manage to pull off a duergar Wilder, my hat's off to you. -Githzerai is worth its LA for psiwarriors or monks (or both). Their inertial armor psi-like ability can be insanely good at higher levels imo. In general, all the psionic races have something worthwhile, but these would be the best. |
| Maldroc_the_Mad03-25-07, 11:26 AM | my friend does like psionics, and has played a kalashtar psion, but i don't think that there are really any combat-oriented psionic classes. i dont have the books but i dont think there are any good psionic front line fighters |

I'd say there are quite a few psi-gishes, probably more as a percentage of all psionic classes than there are arcane gishes for arcanists. |
