Shoren, Silent Elves
Unique among elves for their short longevity, Shoren are children of Eleron Loreshon, a hermit who protects elvenkind and expects no praise for his efforts.
Since creation, Silent elves have guarded the outskirts of elven lands against incursions by orcs and Drow. It is every Shoren's duty to learn to protect his or her community. They are the unsung martyrs of elvenkind, but it is rare to find a Silent elf demanding to be compensated for his short lifespan or position in life as the unwanted guardian of his cousins.
Personality: Shoren are viewed as very serious by other elves, probably because other elves regard them as defensive and unwilling to lose any of their precious few years to ill health or death. They are always thinking of dangers and risks and how to avoid them. To other races, Shoren merely seem to be careful.
Physical Description: Like other elves, Shoren are thinner than humans but, unlike the other groups of elvenkind, Shoren are nearly all over five and a half feet tall. Unlike high elves, Silent elves show their age rather than seem to be eternally young.
Relations: Where high elves are seen as haughty and self-serving, Shoren are open and generous. Humans regard Shoren as humble and likeable, and find easy acceptance among the Silent elves, with a feeling as if the two races are lost cousins. Dwarves find them more tolerable than other elves, and valuable tacticians. Gnomes and halflings find them too grave but are often grateful to know a Shoren trapper.
Around other elves, Shoren are comfortable, despite many glances at their unusual height and showings of pity, for other elves view the longevity of Silent Elves as unfortunate.
Alignment: As other elves, Shoren tend toward chaos for their independent nature, and good for their generosity and goodwill toward most forms of life.
Shoren Lands: Shoren share lands with other elves, but are usually content to live in any region where they can hunt game. As such, Shoren are happy in nearly any race's holdings, for a Shoren trapper can find prey nearly anywhere.
Religion: Most Shoren silently praise their creator, Eleron Loreshon (

Language: All Silent elves treat spoken words as more practical than script. It is valued in Shoren culture for individuals to learn the languages of their neighbors, but it is also valued for a Shoren to speak clear and concise Elven.
Names: Shoren names are usually less lengthy than normal elven names, and often related to trees, landscapes, or wildlife.
