I thought it would be interesting to develop some things based around Neth, the Plane that Lives. I figure that the majority of its knowledge would be about the Astral Plane, seeing as that is its only planar connection. I gave these a distinct flavor based on that.

I am not sure what to do with CR and LA, but let me know what you think!

Servitor of Neth Template

Servitor of Neth is an acquired template that can be added to any creature chosen by Neth. Occasionally, Neth will release a captured creature who vows to serve as its eyes and ears in the outside worlds. If it does, the creatures will be transformed into a completely loyal servant and made to be more capable of gathering the knowledge that it so desires. Any type of creature can be chosen, except for animals, oozes, non-sentient plants, and undead of any kind. In short, living creatures with an intelligence of at least three can be transformed.

Size and Type
The creature gains the Living Construct subtype, and it loses all other subtypes relating to kind and alignment (eg: Elf, Good), but retain elemental subtypes. Do not recalculate base attack bonus, saves, or skill points. Size is unchanged.

Hit Dice
Racial hit dice increase to d10, or remain the same, if higher.
It is reconstructed according to the will of Neth.

Armor Class
The base creature's natural armor is +4 or its original, whichever is better.
The subject's flesh is transformed into the same grey membrane that makes up Neth, often thickening into a dense covering.

(Children of Neth, essentially portions of himself that he splits off, are statistically the same as flesh golems, which have a natural armor of +10, so I figured this was not too extreme.)

Attack
The base creature retains all of its natural attacks, but gains no additional attacks.

Special Attacks
The base creature retains all of its special attacks.

Special Qualities
The base creature gains the following special qualities:

Astral Shroud (Ex): The Servitor is perpetually surrounded by a shroud astral mist. This mist does not provide concealment, but instead heightens one's perception of anything viewed through the mist, much like the mists of the astral plane. This gives the Servitor a unique view of the world around it, and the world of the Servitor. All creatures that see gain a +2 insight bonus to Search and Spot checks when looking through the mist.

Form of the Mists (Su): The Servitor can assume a gaseous form, as the spell, 3/day. In this form, it is composed of the same mists as its shroud. These mists give the same bonuses to perception as before, but do not aid in discerning the true nature of the Servitor itself.

Servitor of Neth (Ex): Unless grossly betrayed by Neth, a Servitor always seeks to further its goals. The Servitor is in constant empathic communication with Neth, and Neth may see through its senses if it so chooses. It may receive whispered advice from Neth when sharing senses, allowing it to take a 20 on a Knowledge check, 1/day. This action may not be performed while in an antimagic field, or the like.

Abilities
The base creature's mental abilities are modified as follows, but it's physical form does not change noticably:
+2 Con, +2 Int, +2 Wis, -4 Cha.
Neth suppresses the independence and strength of personality possessed by the base creature, but increases it's perception and gives it a lust for knowledge akin to its own, making it into a more suitable servitor.

Skills
Knowledge skills are always considered class skills, and when attempting to recall knowledge about something currently being viewed through its Astral Shroud, the Servitor may apply the insight bonus to the knowledge check as well.

Organization
Single or Pair.

Challenge Rating
??

Treasure
None.

Alignment
Always True Neutral.

Advancement
By character class. Servitors will take classes that help them attain knowledge of all kinds, often becoming Wizards and Loremasters. It is not uncommon for them to become transmuters in order to more effectively gather knowledge, considering their bizarre appearance and demeanor.

These guys are unplayable. THey shouldn't have an LA, since they're constantly dominated.

Yeah, they should probably be in the monsters section, too. But are they interesting?

Servitor of Neth Template

In short, living creatures with an intelligence of at least three can be transformed.

Any living corporeal creature with an intelligence of 3 or greater(referred to hereafter as the base creature). Thats what they use in the MMs.

I've no idea what they look like. Add a description maybe?

Hit Dice
The base creature gains two racial hit dice, and gains skills, and feats as appropriate for a construct.
It is reconstructed according to the will of Neth.

I think it would actually have to have the construct type to take construct HD(not to mention construct racial HD suck). Living construct is a subtype, I would imagine it would gain its base creatures racial HD. I would drop the racial HD altogether(it doesn't really make sense for a template to add HD).

Armor Class
The base creature's natural armor is +5 or its original, whichever is better.
The subject's flesh is transformed into the same grey membrane that makes up Neth, often thickening into a dense covering.

The highest I've seen an LA +1 with(not including lizard folk, they have racial HD) is a +3 NA. I can't think of an LA+2 with nat AC atm, +5 sounds about right.

[/B]Astral Shroud (Ex): The Servitor is perpetually surrounded by a shroud astral mist. This mist does not provide concealment, but instead heightens one's perception of anything viewed through the mist. This gives the Servitor a unique view of the world around it, and the world of the Servitor. All creatures that see gain a +2 insight bonus to Search and Spot checks when looking through the mist.

Decent fluff but rather weak. Does this give enemies bonuses to spot the servitor  ?. It would make sense since this goo covered construct with mist swirling around them would be hard not to spot. This ability needs to be reworked.

Form of the Mists (Su): The Servitor can assume a gaseous form, as the spell, at will. In this form, it is composed of the same mists as its shroud. These mists give the same bonuses to perception as before, but do not aid in discerning the true nature of the Servitor itself.

Change this to x per day or something. A 3rd level SLA at will doesn't fit on an LA+2, it would effectively be the entire LA(which it basically is atm)

Servitor of Neth (Ex): The Servitor acts in all ways as though dominated by Neth, as the spell, except that this is not a magical effect. Neth need not concentrate to maintain this control, and it transcends planar boundaries. If the Servitor enters into an Antimagic Field, or similar effect, it cannot receive commands from Neth, and Neth cannot perceive through it's senses, but it remains loyal. A servitor can never break free of Neth's control, but it can resist orders that go against it's nature. (A wish/miracle cast upon a willing Servitor can free it from Neth's control, but it must be greviously betrayed by Neth to desire this.)

This is probably a bad idea. This would instantly make it an NPC. What you could do is make them always X alignment and have Neth whisper to them or something. Give them an insight bonus/profane/whatever type of bonus to X skill(maybe lightning reflexes as a bonus feat).

Abilities
The base creature's mental abilites are modified as follows, but it's physical form does not change noticably:
+2 Int, +4 Wis, -4 Cha.
Neth suppresses the independence and strenght of personality possessed by the base creature, but increases it's perception and gives it a lust for knowledge akin to its own, making it into a more suitable servitor.

Those stats look ok considering the lack of abilities this race has. Although wisdom is a very pricey stat it gives + to many important skills, will saves, and primary/secondary stat for many classes. I would consider lowering the stats to +2 int +2 wis -2 cha and add more abilities or +2 con +2 int +2 wis -2 cha.

[/B]Alignment
Always True Neutral.

Why? I don't understand this please explain.

Advancement
By character class. Servitors will take classes that help them attain knowledge of all kinds, often becoming Wizards and Loremasters. It is not uncommon for them to become transmuters in order to more effectively gather knowledge, considering their bizarre appearance and demeanor.

This is a strange race, its not balanced properly right now. Needs a bit of tweaking. Give a list of abilities they must have and other stuff they might have so we can sort out what to give them. Do you want them to be a high level creation? Its possible to make them into a monstrous creature with decent HD a medium LA and a decent CL in lets say wizard? If you want to make them a straight up template I'd suggest going with a +3 or +4 to give alot of room for special abilities. Generally +1 and +2 LAs are a few +stats and a SLA or two with a few other fluff abilities thrown in.

Using half-fiends/celestials as a base could work. Making them into a race would make it simpler tho. What ECL are you looking for?

No Idea what Neth is. If you could tell me where to find this info I could probably help a bit more.

Check wikipedia, they have a good article that covers Neth quite well.

It would make sense since this goo covered construct with mist swirling around them would be hard not to spot.

It isn't "goo covered". A membrane is like a skin, except it does not specify whether the skin is an internal or external coating. (In this case, the distinction should be apparent.)

When I read about the astral plane, I got the impression that the mist was responsible for the increase in shaprness and clarity or things that projected persons experienced. So that is the flavor that I tried to convey.

I took a bit of your advice, changing LA, abilities and natural armor. I also revamped the namesake ability and assigned a usage per day to it and the Form of the Mists.

This isn't a race, really, it is just a template, so the wizard thing is a tendency and not a favored class. And they are true neutral, because they are serving a creature that I also view as such. Neth seeks knowledge, and does not seek to benefit or harm others, nor does it tend to do so rashly or methodically. It just does it. Ya know?
