How would you do the hp on Sesshoumarus sword, not Tensaga, but the other one I can't think of its name, and his wip from his finger? And his demon form what are his states incress and decress. I don't think I am wording this right, But someone out there has got to know what I am talking about!

Lord Sesshoumaru is a epic outsider, he would be extemely difficult to make, but I suppose it's possible, just remember to give him 20+ Levels in Warblade @.@

Also the sword is called Tokajin(sp?)

not entirly sure what Sesshoumaru is and im sure a lot of people are with me, but if you give a description of him/it/her there is probably someone who can give some good advice. not to say theanthrodm's was bad. but you will get a bigger variety of input.

You could probably start with the Balor as a base, it comes with a whip and everything. Then you just swap out the abilities it has that don't fit thematically with those that do.

Why are you asking questions about a monster on the races forum?

I'd have the Tokujin cast Cure Critical Wounds on any creature "struck" with it, ignoring extra HP. Against fiends or outsiders with the [evil] type it should count as a Holy Mighty Cleaving Katana, probably +3 or +4.

That's really a slapped-together solution though. Probably the most elegant way to handle the Tokujin and the Tetsaiga are to treat them as Weapons of Legacy, as described in Unearthed Arcana.

EDIT: Although others are right, the "races" forum isn't the place to talk about Seshoumaru as an individual, or about his weaponry.

According to the Wikipedia site, Toukijin is the sword that kills people. In the face.

It's Tenseiga that does the healing.

I've been thinking about how to stat out both Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha, but with the current outsiders it's impossible.

I'm checking through Oriental Adventures to see if they have any "Kami" therein.

If not, the only way to do justice to both characters would be to INVENT the kami. They are called "demons" in the manga and anime, but they aren't really demons.....they are otherworldly spiritual beings.

So basically a Kami is an outsider usually with a humanoid form and an animal form. The stronger they are the larger their animal form.

I'll get back to you when I have more.

actually Demon is pretty close, because the old definition of demon is an otherworldly spiritual beings (being evil is a connotation given to it much later)

Well, I don't know about Sesshoumaru, but Inuyashas race should be shifter-like. Maybe you need to make will saves to stay "human" and tetsaiga gives you a +20 on that check or something. Did anyone think about using werewolves?

These progressions are pretty neat, Thomar. Inuyasha is non-spellcasting, however, while the Outsider progression always creates spellcasters. Most non-D&D character conversions benefit from custom stuff, simply because they come from worlds that are sizably different from standard D&D.

Tensaiga: This +5 Katana, also known as the 'Heavenly Fang,' is the bane of all Undead. Against a living creature, the sword functions as simply a merciful katana and as such cannot deal lethal damage. Against an Undead being, the Tensaiga's true powers become appearent: it becomes a +5 Holy Undead Bane Katana.

To those who are looking for a weapon of destruction: look elsewhere, for the Heavenly Fang Tensaiga is a sword of healing. When swung at an injured ally, it deals it's normal damage in positive energy, thus healing those struck by it (the master of the weapon can chose not to activate this positive energy attack, at which point it would simply deal nonlethal damage) for 1d10 points.

As well: upon the Tensaiga's own will, the sword can bring back the dead. Any being that has recently died (within a day) can be restored to life once by the Tensaiga, as the sword's master cuts through the Reapers of the Dead which only the bearer of the Tensaiga can see, as per the True Ressurrect spell.

Finally, in the hands of someone who knows true respect for life, the Tensaiga's ultimate attack can be used: A black orb is wrought upon the space in front of the swordmaster, and with his next landed blow, sends the target into Hell, as per the Plane Shift spell. This attack is useable once per day, and the save DC is 30 (or higher if the DC, which is Cha based, is higher using the swordmaster's charisma score).

The Tensaiga is intelligent, although never attempts to take over its master. It's special purpose power allows it's bearer free passage past the Gate Keepers at the edge of Afterlife. It has a caster level of 20.

Tensaiga has Int 14, Wis 18, Cha 16, and an Ego score of 30.

Which is funny because those were meant to cover everything in standard D&D.

If you want to drop the spellcasting abilities, you could replace them with a equivalent natural armor increase (which I'm pretty sure Inuyasha has). 1/2 Hit Dice rounded down seems fine. Also, note that an above-average land speed can give you huge boosts to Jump checks. The next rev of the document will have the Outsider's abilities spread out (it was way too powerful before), every third level instead of every other, and the spellcasting progression picks up to be equal to 1/2 level.

Hokay, the sword is clearly an artefact, and its powers are fitting for that. However, for the black orb attack (don't remember how it was called in the manga) I would suggest a disintegrate-style effect. IIRC, when Sess used it against an ogre, it just... er... disappeared most of it. Perhaps it could be based on the effects of a sphere of annihilation. The once per day limitation could be removed, or changed to a number of times equal to the sword's charisma bonus, BUT could only be done if the sword agrees to do it. As an intelligent weapon - and, quite possibly, a LG one with a high ego score, that may not be as easy as it sounds.

Just make something conceptually similar with with whats there. You know, use your imagination and make something at least somewhat original and all that jazz. I know its tough for you fanboys/girls to use your brains, but if you try hard enough it might work out for the best."

What level is the game, anyway? Sess probably started low too, once. However, for him that once passed long, long ago :D . He was already a legend before Inu-boy did the sleeping beauty act of his, and it's been 50 years since.

Basically, the guy has epic written all over him. Alternate form that is huge+, 2 artifact weapons (I think the killing sword is Tokujin, and it's probably at least epic), attributes through the roof, spell-like abilities at will (the whip thing and a few other tricks are spell equivalents imo, there was a whip-creating spell tied to the church of Loviatar in Faerun) and I don't know what... That's probably + 5-6 LA and a handful of outsider/monstrous humanoid dice right out of the window. Add in a lot of character levels so that you end up with the kind who can take on next to anything one-handed, and it begins to get close to what he can do. I think he took on an ancient water dragon just to get an extra hand, and that was before he had the killing sword. Naturally, he didn't even break a sweat. The only thing that I know of in D&D that is vaguely similar and of this scope is a leshay, and that's something that has no place in a campaign under lvl 25.

If the player wants to play him in the game, tell him/her that he will have to be much weaker, simply because in order to be of comparable level, he must be represented as how he was way before he did anything mentioned in the manga - i.e. how he'd be in one of the movies where he was a young er... youkai talking to his dad. Which, incidentally, gives the player and the DM a lot more leeway: any excessive abilities may be stuff he has picked over the years and simply didn't know or couldn't do then.

Or make it a mock version, where it just happens to be amazingly the same as him. It eouldn't be that hard. His weapons an artifact, so yeah, that'd take some time. Alternatively that could be the characters $$$ funnel, and the guy could spend the whole time making the sword. By then he'd probably be epic anyway, so it'd work out :D

The Meidou Zangetsu Ha effectively sends the victim to the Afterlife. The best way to emulate that in DnD would be a forced Plane Shift spell.

A tall, one-armed young man walks towards you. He wears a long, flowing white kimono behind a breastplate. He has long white hair, and a cresent moon on his forehead. At his side are two swords. He is otherwise unequipped for travelling.

Whip of Light (su): Sesshoumaru can form a whip of light with his hand. This attack has 20ft. reach, and functions like a whip, although it ignores armor. It effectively functions as a Large Brilliant Energy Whip that deals lethal damage. Despite it being a size category too large, Sesshoumaru takes no penalties.

Acid (ex): Sesshoumaru can secrete a powerful acid with his claw attack, which adds an additional 2d6 acid damage to each hit.

Souryuuha (su): When using the Toukijin or Tensaiga, Sesshoumaru can launch a powerful magical attack. This cone attack is similar to a breath weapon, spreading out in a 60ft. cone, dealing 20d6 pure demonic energy damage. A reflex save, DC 29, halves the damage. Because of the stress this attack puts upon his body and his swords, Sesshoumaru can only unleash this attack three times per day, and only twice in any one week with Toukijin. Tensaiga, being a superior sword, has no such limitation.

Immunities (ex): Being a superior outsider, Sesshoumaru is immune to banishment spells, or any spells that deal more damage to outsiders. Sesshoumaru is also immune to all poisons.

Mokomoko (ex): Sesshoumaru’s fluffy tail thing, the Mokomoko provides a +4 deflection bonus to AC.

Flight (su): Sesshoumaru possesses a supernatural ability of flight.

Transformation (su): When pushed to his limits, Sesshoumaru can fully transform himself into a demonic dog. When in this form…
*He grows to Huge size.
*He gains Str +20, Dex –16, Con +12.
*He retains his Fly speed, and his land move speed increases to 100ft.
*Due to the nature of his own body, he retains his one claw attack (although it deals 3d6+14+2d6 acid damage).
*He gains a Bite attack as his primary attack, which deals 3d8+14+2d6 acid damage
*He gains an acid breath weapon, which deals 12d6 acid damage, in a 60ft. cone. Reflex save, DC 35, halves the damage. The DC is con-based.

Sesshoumaru can maintain this form for an infinite duration, and it functions similarly to Alternate Form except as noted above.

*Sesshoumaru has only his right arm, thus gaining a –4 penalty on grapple checks. He can wield only one weapon at a time.
**Sesshoumaru can use his Weapon Finesse feat with both Tensaiga and Toukijin.

I do agree with this, however, if the want a Seshumaru-like character, let them start off with a normal 1st level character of either celestial or feindish creature humanoid and build up from there. Such mythological creatures dont always start out that powerful, just more powerful than most, and then work at it. Okay, here I've gotta disagree. Epic-level characters are not "too overpowered for D&D's rules" - by definition, since there are rules and material for epic-level characters, they're not too overpowered for the rules. And hey, you could always be starting a game with epic-level characters. (You might have an argument if Sesshoumaru was level 300 or something, but he's not, so that's a silly line of questioning.)

While I fully condone people creating original characters, I do not disrespect someone who wants to take the effort to actually try and learn the character of a character well enough to play him in an RP or write for him in fanfiction. I've seen enough bad characterization jobs that I know how difficult it can be.

An Inuyasha game where the PCs play the non-blatantly-evilwrongbad cast might be difficult to play as a standard D&D game, however, since the PCs would be widely different in power levels.

I do agree with this, however, if the want a Seshumaru-like character, let them start off with a normal 1st level character of either celestial or feindish creature humanoid and build up from there. Approaches like this can work well if you're playing a game with lower-level characters. It's important that if you do this, though, that you allow them to actually grow into the character they want to be - and with a lot of these, this does mean providing them with the custom feats/maneuvers/etc. they'll need at the appropriate levels. Discouraging them from being the character they want to play once the game starts will just dissatisfy your player.

(For the record, Goku probably didn't start Dragonball at level 1 - even as a little kid, he had the power to beat several full-grown men in a fight. Still, level 3 would be a good enough start there.)

Don't you get it? To keep Sesshoumaru as close to the real character, he has to be made a unique monster. You can replicate a lot of the things he does by playing a gish fighter/wizard, but you won't get an authentic feeling Sesshoumaru.

11-07-06, 07:38 PM
There are really two ways to convert characters - as PCs, and as NPCs.

For NPCs, you don't care about advancement, so the honest-to-god best way to convert a character to D&D for NPC use is to build him as a unique monster, without character classes, giving him the abilities he has and nothing else, and then assign a Challenge Rating as appropriate.

For a PC, you do care about advancement, so you want to build him as a PC - this will be a "D&D Version" of him rather than a super-accurate one (as is understandable - neither a level-5 Sesshoumaru nor a level-20 Kagome would be accurate to Inuyasha, but your PCs probably want to gain experience and levels over the course of the game.

For this, you should design (or assign, if there's an appropriate one) a race, find classes that best represent the character in question (with customs, if necessary), and create custom maneuvers, spells, items, and if absolutely necessary, template-granted special abilities. This won't be as accurate to the character since he may be at a different power level or have more, less, or slightly inappropriate abilities, but it's the best way to have a PC of that character.

Nice. A few squibbles, though.
- Claw damage: it looks more like acid than poison to me, and 2d6/2d6 is really huge (especially as, iirc, poison stacks. Inu-boy would die from the 3-4th scratch, probably). How does 2d6 19-20/x3 slashing damage, with acidic burst sound to you? He is quite capable of tearing someone to shreds with his bare hands.
- If you have Magic of Faerun, the Whip of Force spell from there could also work (spell-like ability, at will). Or, you could make it function as an elemental weapon (say, corrosive or shocking).

CR-wise, Sesshoumaru is almost definitely below 20. I don't really see anyone in Inuyasha as being epic-level.
Qube

oh yeah he's walking around with 2 major artifacts (his 2 swords)

+ he kills big dragons without any problem (while he was in search for an new left arm, he slayed a dragon and 'stole' his claw). combat lasted 1 round:
- dragon uses frightfull presence
- Sesshumaru-sama uses his whip, and kills the dragon before the dragon could do anything else.

SESSHOUMARU LOPPED A DRAGONS ARM OFF! He's killed entire armies of demons without a weapon, by himself!

Actually, it's pretty argueable. A lot of the things he does are just flashy -- his super speed could be seen as Haste or something similar.

Most level 20s can march into an army and wipe them out without much issue.

I think, while sounding biased, that my treatment of Sesshoumaru is a pretty accurate rendition of his abilities.
The_Shaman

If I recall the battle correctly, he DID almost kill Inuyasha in three or four attacks.

I said scratch, not attack. I think acid damage would work better than poison, overall, and his claws do more direct damage than what poison does (it could persist, with weakening strength, for several rounds). It's a mechanical argument, you may have it or not. That, and I'd still consider him leaning towards evil. Someone who kills you over the least provocation or because you were in his way could be classified as such.

Edit: as for his swords, Tenseiga could be an artifact, epic-level, or a legacy item, or just a very powerful magical sword with a few other abilities. Tokijin can be as simple as a +3 cursed adamantine sword (for the DR bypassing), maybe with the vicious or unholy property. It could be an epic level weapon or (possibly) an artifact itself, but I'd go be a bit sceptical about that. At any rate, depends how you want to scale your game. I'm pretty sure, though, that the Anime Sesshy has an ECL of at least 12.

After he is with Rin for a while, he is strongly Lawful Neutral. He stops killing for any reason, and he even has protected the main characters (he saves Kagome, Sango, and Miroku from the poison-user of the Shininintai).

I've actually statted the Tensaiga, in this thread (look in the previous page).

Toukijin would be an artifact as well. I'd say..

Toukijin: This Intelligent +4 Demonbane Adamantine Longsword is a cursed, demonic sword forged from the fang of a monstrous demon. Although not a match for surperior demon blades, such as Tetsaiga or Tensaiga, the sword is more than a match for any Human sword. The Toukijin is an evil sword. Whenever held by a weak-willed being, it attempts to possess them, inflicting it's Ego upon the wielder.

The sword possesses only one true ability: 'sword pressure.' With each swing of the sword, a blue arcing energy radiates from the weapon, dealing damage in an arc around the sword. This effect deals its' weapon damage in a 30ft. cone. Any being within that cone is hit by the attack as if the wielder was attacking that being (if the attack roll is high enough to hit the enemy, they are hit by it).

Toukijin has Int 14, Wis 12, Cha 16 and an Ego score of 13.

He's an NPC, so he doesn't get max hp for his first level. He has 30d8 in HD, receiving 4.5 hp/level for 30 levels, or 135 hp. He also has a Constitution of 18, giving him a +4 bonus. 30 * 4 = 120.

So his HD are 30d8 + 120 (hp 255).

I always have the NPC stats "take average" which is 4 per HD for a d8.

So

30*4+4*30 = 240hp. It looks like I got a little dyslexic when typing it in. ;) Although I have no idea where I pulled the +300 out of. Perhaps I used the Con modifier after his transformation, for some reason.

Anyways: I changed the poison technique into an Acid one. It's not as potent, but that's alright.
Kothardarastrix

11-09-06, 02:08 PM
Actually the averge for a d8 is 4.5, the range is 1-8, so 1+8=9/2=4.5*30=135+120=255.
Since when don't NPC's get the maximum of their die type at level 1?
obrysii

11-09-06, 02:52 PM
Actually the averge for a d8 is 4.5, the range is 1-8, so

Look at the sidebar that says, "Taking average" for HPs. It should be somewhere in the Player's Handbook, with a neat little table. The average is 4 for an d8.

But based on random sampling from SRD, it seems that monsters subscribe to neither the PC "taking average" nor the NPC "taking average".
Imban

11-09-06, 04:10 PM
Gibbering Mouthers do (4.5 * 4 + 24 = 42), Phase Spiders do (5.5 * 5 + 15 = 42.5 ~ 42), the Tarrasque does (5.5 * 48 + 576 + 18 = 858)...

Average stats start out with full at 1st level (8) and then alternate between the two middle ones (4 and 5), I just can't remember which goes first
Imban

11-11-06, 03:13 PM
Alright, for everyone saying that monsters get full HP at first level, seriously, check it with the SRD. Not a one of them gets full HP at first level, and if you give them full HP at first level their HP will not be what's listed.

HP is gained at the average rate (2.5/3.5/4.5/5.5/6.5 + Con + other bonuses) at every level, round down at the very end, or lower-higher-lower-higher, because these two methods are functionally identical.

He can have Improved Natural Weapon (claw). Or just have claws that deal more damage because you feel like it. It's the default claw that deals 1d4+1/2 str.
The_Shaman

11-11-06, 10:06 PM
1d4? The savage template alone gives much better claws, for medium creatures. Also, since in his humanoid form he has only 1 claw attack and no bite, it should be 1&1/2 Str, or at least not halved (half is only for secondary natural attacks, and he doesn't have any). Given what damage his claw does, I'd say it should do at least 1d10, preferably 2d6.

It is not inconceivable that Sesshoumaru was at some point less powerful than he was at the start of the series. The idea behind converting something for PC use is to make it playable from a low level to a high level.

We should also refrain from suggestions that are as hilariously wrong as Inuyasha the Dog Hengeyokai or Sesshoumaru the Cat, though. Please.

Well look at it like this in the game......... Sesshomoru hasn't gotten to where he is in Inuyasha right now, the gamer is just playing out his background, so in the background he would be weaker, not as smart, not as renound, and not as powerful. If you're worried about ruining Sesshomoru's name playing him as a low level character, get a life, and than wait till you're party hits a high level and just switch characters.

It was previously listed as AC: 33 (10 base + 10 dex + 15 natural + 4 armor + 4 deflection) but if you look at it his base 10 + 10 dex + 15 natural is already 35! it should be AC 43 (10 base + 10 dex +15 natural +4 armor + 4 deflection) since 10 + 10 + 15 + 4 +4 = 43.

if i'm not mistaken their is a rumor that is is the first reincarnation of Kikyo (i mean, she did kind of purify Sesshumaru-sama :)

I've heard this rumor, too.

She turned him from Lawful Evil to Lawful Neutral with Good tendencies. That's quite a change!

Also, for the Sesshoumaru above (which are my stats), use this for Toukijin:

Toukijin: This intelligent, Chaotic Evil, +5 Longsword emanates an aura of total evil. Whenever someone attempts to wield the sword for the first time, the Toukijin attempts to possess the being. The sword has an Ego score of 22. Whoever takes control of the sword gains the ability to use the sword's "pressure" to attack enemies at range. The sword has a constant Blood Wind effect in place, except that the range is 40ft. instead of the normal 20ft. This means that the sword effectively has a 40ft. reach. However, when wielded by a particularly powerful individual, the sword's powers burn out quickly, and it can only be used to generate the Blood Wind effect for five rounds per day.

Edit: After thinking about this post, I redid this template.

i have been acually making a less stacked (no offense) racial progression of a Inugami daiyōkai and if so me one can tell me how to make the tables i will post it, also the Mokomoko was the thing on sesshoumaru's shoulder right? then wouldnt it just be a wonderous item? last the ability bonuses are just to high.

1. The Mokomoko is something that both he, his mother, and his father had. It's not just an item: it's physically a part of them. Sesshoumaru bleeds from it when he is cut by Sou'unga in the third movie.

2. Daiyokai are SUPPOSED to be totally stacked: he's inherently an extremely potent demon. Even at the beginning of the series he was practically unmatched, and through the entire series, there's only been three demons more powerful than him: Naraku (potentially); Ryūkotsusei (also a Daiyokai); and the Panther Tribe leader (also a Daiyokai).

Of those three, he has fought toe-to-toe (and never lost) against two. The other one never had the opportunity to fight him (and Ryukotsusei only lost to Inuyasha because of the Tetsaiga's unique ability to turn one's massive youkai against themselves).

3. The abilities need to be high in order to near the capabilities seen in the anime.

4. Use [ code ] [ / code ] to make tables.

The truth is I down graded those stats :D

LA with the one I use is way to high for any non epic game.

Also have one for a snake, tiger, lion. bear, and boar plus this dog/wolf one

Natural armor: starting at level two a Inugami daiyokai gains +1 natural armor and it increases by +1 every other level

i have lost my monster manuals so can anyone help me with the dmg of the claws and bite in true form?

19 17d8 19 11 6 11 3+int
20 18d8 20 12 6 12 3+int

Natural armor: at first level and every other level after an Inugami daiyōkai's natural armor increases by 1
A level one Inugami daiyōkai also gains two claws(both hands) of 1d8 piercing and slashing dmg and Scent.
Strength increase: an Inugami daiyōkai at lvl 2,lvl 4, lvl 6,lvl 9, and lvl 14 gains +2 strength (meaning basicly it goes from a total of +2 at lvl 2 to + 10 at lvl 14)

Energy Restances: was thinking of a total of 10 for fire frost and some others but not sure.
Mokomoko- the furry part on the right shoulder when in human form that can extend to latch on to foes. Provides +2 on grapple checks. However if the mokomoko is stricken with an attack the pc takes the dmg since the mokomoko is a physical part of the being

True Form: starting at level five a Inugami daiyōkai can fully transform into their true form. Transforming into their true form takes a full round action(may change to standard action). A Inugami daiyōkai can transform as many times as they want and stay in that form for as long as they want. It effectively acts as polymorph, however no hp is gain through changing forms.

At level five an Inugami daiyōkai can transform into a large dog While in this form they gain +2str, -1ac and attack bonus, +2con, reach of 5ft, and claws of 1d10dmg and bite attack 1d12dmg, +4 to grapple.

Superior subtype

Traits
- Immunities: Immune to all non-epic banishment effects and any non-epic spells that deal extra damage to outsides as well as any form of poisions. (Some creatures with this subtype has a few poisions that are deadly towards them as noted in there infomation.)

Because my computer is acting up I can't do long posts. Here is a subtype I use for my new daiyōkai. Will post the wolf and maybe the tiger daiyōkai today.

Strogg: As far as I can tell that looks good, but as I do not have the savage book I not much use there :(
