Shadar-Kai, those grey skinned, white haired, tatoo/pierced/branded/red rune covered fey from the shadowfell...A good concept or a bauched attempt at a goth anti-hero?

What do you think of them?

Be honest, be blunt, but be polite. :D

Don't care about them.

...probably because what you've said is the only thing I know about them.

Would you mind telling me what source book this is from so I can really critique it?

Shadar-Kai are in the Fiend Folio, though I am not sure what page they are on.

I kind of thought more people would know more about them, but you know what happens when you assume.

I have seen some enworld forums on them, it seems people either love them tremendously, or absolutely hate them.

Personally, I like them, but im odd.

Sometimes I have noticed people use them as a Drow-substitute.

the general ide is cool, but they made them far to angsty and self-pittying to consider using them.

They are a bit emo, but I believe I could use them.
I mean the DM can change what he wishes right?

Only problem is how do you make them angsty enough to be cool, but not enough to be emo?

I'm using them as "minions" (for lack of a better word) of Shar in my forgotten realms campaign. They've turned out pretty well so far and because they're cursed, it gives my goody-two-shoes cleric player the chance to redeem them instead of kebabing them.

If it is not cursed is it still a Shadar-kai?
Even if they were not cursed I would probably still keep them just a bit angsty and connected to the plane of shadow.
Or atleast the shadow part.

Kind of the appeal.
