Lycanthropes/shapeshifters have always played a small part in my homebrewed campaign world and their the only homebrew race that I'd like to bring over. Problem: I'd been using them as classes instead of a race. I thought with the new racial feats and encounter powers that I could bring them into their own so here's a try. Mind you I want -lots- of help with this. I suck at balancing Mechanics: Ability Scores: +2 Con, +2 Str(instead of Str; Birds get +2 Wis , Snakes get +2 Dex) Size: Medium Speed: 6 Vision: Low-light Skill Bonuses: +2 Stealth, +2 nature (Most Shapeshifters are naturally stealthy and more in tune with nature then others) [From what I've seen it looks like most races have 3 racial abilities. Some have fewer or one more but average looks like 3] Racial Ability 1: Shapeshift [At-will] A shapeshifter can shapeshift into the animal of its clan. When it shapeshifts it gains either a bite or claw attack(depending on the type ) at 1d6 +1/2 character level vs. AC. While shifted the character also gains a +5 on any disguise checks to appear as the shifted animal. Racial Ability 2: Fast Healing I slashed the man’s face before me and watched as blood dripped from it. Before I could react though, his wound healed up and he smiled at me like a cat playing with a mouse. Shapeshifters are naturally immune to normal weapon types. It gains weapon resistance 3 +1/2 character level unless a silver weapon is used or another shapeshifters natural weapons are used. Racial Ability 3: [Currently none. may make this a slot for an ability that differs on the type of shapeshifter] Example: Calling the Beast The bandit was pressed against a large boulder and the fight was going against him. I moved in for the kill. Suddenly he grinned and his teeth seemed to lengthen. He let out a chilling howl and ran at me moving faster then I'd seem him move before. Once per day a lycanthrope can call upon its beast and become truly terrifying. The character’s speed increases by one square and he can add his strength score to his next attack. The speed boost lasts for one turn per ½ character level. Fluffy stuff: Shapeshifter is the overall term used to refer to the various types of Callans that can transform into animals. More powerful shapeshifters can meld into a hybrid form that mixes human and animal features[racial feat]. Shapeshifters come in two primary types: Inherited shifters and Lycanthropes. Inherited shifters can only gain their powers from birth. They are descended from those who were cursed long ago with their beastial nature. Lycanthropy itself is a disease(not a curse in my game). Lycanthropes are those either afflicted with the disease or born with it. Someone can contract lycanthropy by surviving a lycanthrope attack[racial feat for this in the works] |
