| Rustmonster07-19-07, 04:10 PM | First off, the ability I am refering to is in here: Slight Build: The physical stature of kobolds lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category smaller. Whenever a kobold is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as Hide), the kobold is treated as one size smaller if doing so is advantageous to the character. A kobold is also considered to be one size smaller when "squeezing" through a restrictive space. A kobold can use weapons designed for a creature one size smaller without penalty. However, the space and reach of a kobold remain those of a creature of their actual size. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject's size category. It comes from: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20060420a Now, the question is about this part: Whenever a kobold is subject to a size modifier Since a tiny character gets +2 attack and +2 AC as a size modifier, does that mean kobolds get +2 to AC and attack like a tiny creature, as opposed to the +1 AC and attack of a Small creature? |
| JellyPooga07-19-07, 05:06 PM | I've often wondered the same, but have yet to make a decision either way... |
| Lawlicron07-19-07, 10:04 PM | I'd really like a clarification on this one too, I have always wanted to make a medium sized race with it. |
| ranger_of_renwood07-19-07, 10:33 PM | Really good question. On one hand, it obviously takes a cue from Powerful Build, which does not make any modifiers to attack rolls or AC, but on the other it comes into play "if doing so is advantageous to the character." This is one of the many reasons why I'm mourning the loss of Dragon, at least we could ask Sage. EDIT: Since a tiny character gets +2 attack and +2 AC as a size modifier, does that mean kobolds get +2 to AC and attack like a tiny creature, as opposed to the +1 AC and attack of a Small creature? I would personally say no. Although it would definitely be advantagous to the character, attack rolls and AC are not "an opposed check." |

The bolded is the most important part. While a +2 AC/Attack bonus would be nice, they are not opposed checks. Some opposed checks are: Hide, Bull Rush, and Intimidate. Small creatures get a +4 to hide (+8 for tiny), and -4 to Bull Rushes and Intimidates. Though, it's a good thing they have the "when it is advantages to them" clause in there. So basically, you get +8 on hides instead of +4. Also, a kobold can hide a tiny dagger with the appropriate bonus to Slight of Hand checks, and also use them (though i don't see why anyone would use a smaller sized weapon unless sneaking it by someone with a good search/spot) Lastly you can squeeze two kobolds into one square when traveling down a passage/cave that is only 5ft. wide, or down a crevasse that is 2.5ft or larger wide. |

Aww, this makes me sad. At least it answered my question. Thanks. I just thought that I had found the Uber ability that brings Kobolds on par witht he other 0 LA races. I mean, it says right in the MM: Dwarf Warrior: 1/2 CR Kobold Warrior: 1/4 CR I still love the little guys, and I like playing them. It just would have been so awesome to have my level 1 Kobold swashbuckler with 19 AC, Two weapon fighting with a rapier and a short sword with a +4 to both attacks. :P |

| TheOrdnanceGod07-21-07, 02:09 AM | I'd give them the tiny bonuses, Kobolds are always kinda hunched and grabby anyway. |
