The feathers on the top of his head and along his jaw bristle a little in anticipation. The rapier in his hand weaves in tight circles as he prepares defend himself. At first glance a Slyvasja appears to be nothing more than a lean bodied lizardfolk. That is only partly the truth. Anyone who knows a Slyvasja can tell you they tend to be easy going pranksters who are just as happy trading jokes and riddles with friends as they are slaying the evils that disrupt the lives of the goodly people of the world. Personality: It is said that in the earliest days of Slyvasja history the elders of the race gathered together and determined to shake off the evil mantle that so many Lizardfolk so proudly wore. To this end the Slyvasja went to great lengths, which eventually attracted the attention of a very old copper dragon who called himself Laughing Wing. Laughing Wing’s good nature and prankster mentality soon swept through the gathered Slyvasja and in a few years after his arrival the young amongst the Slyvasja prepared to go out and show the world that not all Lizardfold were swamp dwelling savages. Physical Description: The lean body of the Slyvasja is primarily covered in blue-green scales. Ornate scale patterns that range from dark blues and green to gray and black are located on the shoulders, neck, head, and upper muzzle area. Males and females both have feathered crests the start just behind their eyes and run back to the base of their skill. Males also grow feathers along the back half of their lower jaw. Males tend to be a little taller than the average human and females a little taller still. Being lean bodied though makes the Slyvasja lighter then a typical human of their height. Gender Base Height Height Modifier Base Weight Weight Modifier Male 62” +2d8 104 lb x1d6 lb Female 66” +2d8 104 lb x1d6 lb Relations: Though their appearance can often make initial encounters a little sensitive the Slyvasja boast friends among all the goodly races. Off all the other races though they tend to have the closest relationships with dragonblooded races, which they share history, and Gnomes, with whom they share a love of good jokes. Alignment: Most Slyvasja are good aligned with most of the rest being neutral, few Slyvasja are evil. Their spontaneous personalities tend to lead to a more chaotic way of life, though the drive to do good deeds has led many Slyvasja to the more lawful path of the Paladin. Homeland Slyvasja villages are most often settled in hilly areas amongst warm climates. It is very common to find a Slyvasja village within a mile or two of the Lair of a Copper Dragon. Religion: Most Slyvasja worship the dragon god Hlal though several tales are told of the Slyvasja that has heard the call of the Lord of the North Wind and that of the other dragon gods. Language Draconic and Common. Bonus Languages: Dwarven, Elven, Gnomish, Golbinoid, Halfing, and Orcish Names: Sylvasja names usually make use of soft “s” sounds interspersed with hard “k” and “v” sounds. With only the subtlest of differences in pronunciation, there is little difference in male and female names in writing. Names: Kyvkaa, Oskari, Ryss, Skral, Svalal, Trysvas, and Vaskryn Family Names: Copperkin, Hillheim, Sunscale, and Wyrmchild Adventure: Slyvasja enjoy new experiences. Meeting new people, besting foul creatures, making allies, and saving the helpless are all things that drive young Slyvasja to leave their homes and take up the life of an adventurer. Racial Traits Strength +0, Dexterity +4, Constitution +0, Intelligence +0, Wisdom +0, Charisma +4 Medium Sized: As medium sized creatures Sylvasja gain no benefits due to size. Lacking a bite attack or the ability to effectively spit this toxin at a distance the Slyvasja have learned to coat their weapon (which takes a move action that provokes an attack of opportunity) and deliver the saliva via a weapon strike. The toxin remains potent for a number of rounds equal to 1+the Slyvasja’s Constitution modifier or until the Slyvasja makes a successful strike in combat. On a successful hit the target must make a fortitude save (DC 10+The Slyvasja’s HD) or take an additional 1d4+constitution modifier points of damage. The Slyvasja may use this neurotoxin once a day. Weapon Proficiency: All Slyvasja are proficient with Rapiers. Skill Affinity: Slyvasja always treat Bluff, Hide, and Climb as class skills. Slyvasja may use their tails to make trip attacks. Cold Torpor: A Slyvasja who is affected by any spell with the cold descriptor is also treated as if under the effects of a Slow spell. This additional effect lasts for 1d6 rounds minus the Slyvasja’s Constitution modifier (minimum 1 round). | enygmatic_me03-13-07, 09:03 PM | Try LA +2 or 3, then it's reasonable. I think this race would make a rather poor +2, let alone a +3. The Ability scores are nice as is the extra move. The rest of the racial features are not as powerful as they may look at first. The Poison is only usuable once a day to add 1d4+con mod to damage to an attack with a melee weapon. Tail Attack is ok, never unarmed, only 1d3+Half Strength Modifier as a secondary attack is not that powerful though. Skill Affinity is good, it doesn't give actual Skill ranks though. Gaining proficiency with rapier only benefits a few classes. Cold Torpor is the one I had the hardest time considering. Cold based spells are a very specific situation, but to be slowed as well as damaged is harsh and knowing to do that is Knowledge check away. I don't see it as a +2. |
| bobothechimp03-13-07, 09:50 PM | The tail attack is a free secondary attack which can be used for trip attacks. It doesn't matter if the damage is low. You also fail to mention the extra +10 feet of movement. |

I just don't see the ability to make trip attacks as that powerful. This race is capable of being tripped back and they take penalties to the attack for it being a secondary natural attack. I don't think it is enough to push the LA up. If you can show me why it is though, I will alter the tail racial feature. You also fail to mention the extra +10 feet of movement. Actually I did, recheck the second sentence of the first paragraph in the post right above your last one. |

This additional effect lasts for 1d6 rounds minus the Slyvasja’s Constitution modifier (minimum 1 round). (nothing in the FP’s really covered this) Total – 39 FP balanced LA+1 without factoring in Cold Torpor |
