| PsionicRanger04-25-07, 10:46 PM | I'm looking through undead templates and can't find what I'm looking for. I need a little help as to if there's something I'm missing. I want a template with a Moderately low LA-+1-+4 I want a bruiser I don't want to stink or set off any negative environmental stuff i.e. despair, etc. All WotC is allowed and if there's something that you know about that is not in their library, but is found somewhere else, let me know. |
| runestar04-25-07, 10:53 PM | Define bruiser, seeing as to how you lose your con score as an Undead. Libris Mortis has the necropolitan, which is probably the best, since it lacks the debilitating LA which most other undead seem to come saddled with. |
| JellyPooga04-26-07, 02:31 PM | Libris Mortis has a couple of Undead Monster Classes. Of these: Ghoul/Ghast is a pretty good Bruiser (good Str, Claws+Bite) but has Stench (if you go Ghast), so that comes under your 'no environmental jobbies' clause. You could ask your DM about covering that somehow though (magic, alchemy, etc,). 8 levels (including 4HD) for Ghast or 5 levels (including 2HD) for Ghoul. Vampire Spawn is again a pretty good Bruiser (Fast Healing for starters), but has all the Vampire Weaknesses (sunlight, etc.), so again a no-no. Wight is probably your best bet. Not the best stat improvements, but no downside (except the obvious one of 'being undead' and the reacrions that provokes in people) and you get an Energy Drain attack and can create spawn (for surrounding yourself with meat shields). 8 levels long, including 4 HD (so that's effectively a +4 LA) Mohrg. This puppy will take you to epic levels (it's a 20 level monster class), but in that time you do get like +14 to Strength, which i suppose counts as being a bruiser. Like Wight, no downside, but you won't be taking class levels this side of epic level. Mummies get massive strength and DR but you even specified no despair (and it's 13 levels long too IIRC). ------------------------------------------------------------------ If you don't want Monster Class levels, there's Gravetouched Ghoul. All the Ghoul abilities, you keep any class abilities you had before becoming a Ghoul and a fairly low LA. ^ mentioned the Necropolitan already, so I won't (though it probably is your best bet - it costs but 2000xp, 1000gp and your DM's approval for being Undead and +2 Turn Resistance). Also in Libris Mortis there's the Deathlock (A few Spell-like abilities Inflict Minor Wounds at will], Turn Resistance, 3HD, +3 LA), which I'd be interested in playing myself. Aside from that, I can't really think of anything else. |
| RobbyPants04-26-07, 02:58 PM | There are the corpse and bone creatures from BoVD. They're 3.0, but they can be easily converted to 3.5, if you look at how the skeletons and zombies have changed. They have relatively low LA. The idea is to make a skeleton or zombie that retains it's class abilities. |
| Return of the Flumph04-26-07, 03:17 PM | Swordwraith from MM2. Its 3.0, but low LA and good in melee. |
| TheCarrionCrawler04-26-07, 03:27 PM | The Katane from Dragon Magazine is better than the Half-Vamp in Libris Mortis...they also had a sort of half-ghost and half-ghoul... Perhaps some kind soul could provide the issue number....I'm at work, so no access to zines. |
| runestar04-27-07, 12:30 AM | Note that swordwraith is actually in the fiend folio, and has no listed LA as far as I am aware of. Flumph is likely thinking about the dread guard, which is actually a construct.:) |
