Sorry, kinda long.....

I just read Son of Thunder (Forgotten Realms, The Fighters series, kinda fast paced......) and in the book, there was a particularly weak barbarian named Vell who, after having their tribe's totem, something called a Thunderbeast (described as a long-necked, Gargantuan or Colossal dinosaur) speak through him, something deep within him came out, he found that when he rages, he grows thick scales that make him look like he's wearing full-plate armor (look at the cover (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/frnovel/954417400)) and also finds that nothing short of a strong sword thrust can penetrate it (the first time an arrow bounced right off his forehead). It also gave him super-human strength, right after the arrow bounced off his forehead he ran into the building with the archer in it, picked up a solid stone throne over his head, threw it at the wall and brought the whole building down and when his tribe uncovered him, he was uninjured! What's even more, if he completely gives into the rage he literally turns into a Colossal Thunderbeast, he can also see through the eyes of other Thunderbeasts and control them, and he can grant others his powers (at the end of the book, him and six others of his party turned Thunderbeasts destroyed an entire city  ......).

So, i was thinking, is there any race in D&D that resembles this besides like an uber Shifter, and if there's not, what would his racial adjustments and LA be? :help:

I only read Ghostwalker and Master of Chains of the Fighters series.

What you've described to me sounds more like alternate class features than a race. Ghostwalker and Master of Chains were PrCs in 3.0, I don't remember Son of Thunder anywhere, but I would start there.

Maybe some sort of wildshaping barbarian variant?
