| EvilIdiot05-24-07, 04:46 PM | I'd like to play a synad, maybe modifying some racial traits to make the race fit better the campaign I'm going to start, and I've already thought about a racial-character background. Here's a quick draft: synads were an isolated group of ancient mystic/casters with a really advanced lore and society, who kept some of their cabals/headquarters on shadow plane; their understanding of supernatural and magic was unmatched. They were pacific people, who avoided conflicts as much as possible, they tended toward good as well. Centuries ago, they had been attacked by foreign enemies, to enslave them, and steal their lore and magical skills. Synad tried to resist , but their foes used vile and corrupting magic, which eventually decimated synad people ,destroying lots of their writings. In the end , synads escaped from the material plane to the plane of shadow, where they managed to survive, being forgotten by other humans. Some decades ago, they managed to return to the material plane, where they hid among other humans, and kept relationships with each other, founding a few secret "houses", one for each clan/major family Nowadays they can be found in magical academies, embassies, and so forth. my synad is the chief of a notable house, and has a quiet life, with his wife, a human, and related child*. He works as a librarian in an important academy. He's really important among other chiefs, since he's the keeper of an extremely valuable magical item/writing/nutella vase/whatever, or he's the only one who knows how to reach that thing. * synads mating other humanoids is pretty rare, especially for chiefs. One day he comes back home and discovers his family disappeared, without leaving traces. then his adventure start,...bla bla bla... Now, what I'm looking for is a spellcasting class, possibly tied to int score, with something 'exotic'. Suppose I can use any book, my group has almost all the complete series. So far I thought about these ones: -wizard, straight or abjurer. pro: simple to fit in the campaign cons: i haven't got many ideas to make the class look "exotic"/appealing for this char - psion pro: exotic enough cons: i never played one, and my dm will hardly allow me to use it, mainly because he doesn't want to learn it - wilder pro: exotic enough, easier to learn, I think cons: i never played one, and my dm will hardly allow it - erudite pro: exotic enough, even more than psion IMO cons: i never played one, and my dm will hardly allow me to use it, mainly because he doesn't want to learn it anyway, what class&build would you suggest? thanks for your attention! |

| X-Codes05-26-07, 08:37 AM | I once made an Erudite Ardent/Incarnate (functioning as party healer with a dash of crowd control and CQC) for a campaign that had actually prohibited traditional spellcasters. Of course, since your DM doesn't want to learn Psionics I believe he would groan at the suggestion of also learning the Incarnum system in the same campaign. Anyway, seeing that he's a librarian you should probably use one of the Int-Based manifesters. The best way to go would probably be Erudite since it's mechanically something of a hybrid between the Wizard and the Psion. |

I've thought the erudite may learn a new power from a wizard or sorcer, a location, or item as he would do with a psionicist/power stone. It would be the 'exotic' way of learning magic of synads. Naturally I am going to learn just a few powers... Would it work? hmm.. nothing about wizs? |
| CantripN05-26-07, 10:23 AM | As they deal with the plane of Shadow, perhaps you'll consider Shadowcraft Mages? It's quite Exotic, I think. And certainly powerful. |
| EvilIdiot05-26-07, 10:33 AM | Hmm... I don't see the pc as illusion-focused ,though the shadowcraft mage is powerful and exotic. |
| EvilIdiot05-27-07, 07:35 AM | Uh, I've just seen archivists use clerical spells only, but I'm not interested in divine spellcasting |
