| redodysseus06-03-07, 06:41 PM | I run a campaign with players who are all optimizers- but not brokenly, so. Which is fine, because so am I, but that always leads them to choose humans as characters for the, primarily, extra feat and extra skill points-which are important in my campaign. The problem, however, is I love demi-humans, and they are an equal part of my world as humans. Therefore, to encourage diversity I have created more options for stats of the different races. Basically, I have allowed more variation in the stats of the demi-humans (a derogatory term but I don't know a better one) to have their stats reflect a races specialization in certain classes. All variations are to reflect the unique nature of my world. Dwarves Dwarves, along with being great fighters are renowned for their spirituality. Variation: Instead of +2 for Con a Dwarf may have +2 for Wis. Also, for this variation they also recieve +2 for Cha when dealing with any Dwarf. Instead of -2 to Cha, Dwarvers recieve -2 to Dex in my world. Elves As the oldest, and longest living race elves have developed their mental faculties along with their gracefulness. They are renowned for their mastery of the arcane arts along with their veneration of their gods and nature and poetry and song that brings joy to life. Variation: Instead of +2 to Dex, they can have +2 to Int, Wis or Cha. -2 to Con. This reflects that elves were the first spellcasters, can be extremely religious or nature oriented (for Druids) and have the largest repository of the arts to draw upon (for Bards). Half-Elves Half-Elves recieve a bonus Feat, the same as humans. The PhB. half-elves are the most nerfed race in the game. Halflings Halflings are gypsys in my world. They know how to get along with everyone. Variation: Instead of +2 to Dex may opt for +2 for Cha. They make natural Bards in my world in the Vaudeville/Circus Performer style. Gnomes I really don't use gnomes in my world but they can be great performers or inventors. Variation: Instead of +2 for Con they have +2 for Cha or +2 for Int. This reflects their natural inclination for being Bards or Inventors/Illusionists. Half-Orcs The remain the same in my campaign reflecting barbarians in my campaign. Variations: Instead of +2 for Str, -2 for Int and Cha, they can have +2 for Wis and -2 for Int. This reflects that not are members are drawn to the warrior path but some to the spiritual path venerating their nature gods. These variations allow a benefit to choosing demo-human race for increased stat ability to make up for humans recieving an extra feat and skill points. |
