Hi!

Today I bought Races of Stone (translated in italian).
While reading racial background of Stonechild I noticed that Stonechildren are the result of an union between a mortal and an elemental (I guess, an earth elemental)...
So I have a question: what's the difference between a Stonechild and a Half Earth Elemental if they are the result of the same union (for example between a human and a earth elemental)? When the offspring is a Stonechild and when a half earth elemental?

Thank you for your answers ;)

Hello,

I would assume that one with "Half-Earth Elemental" template is someone who had one mortal parent and the other parent was the same base race as the mortal parent, just with the "Eath Element" template.

A stonechild on the other hand I would tend to see as the union of a mortal and something more powerful, like a Dao (Earth Element genie type)

Which is where you eventually get the Earth Genasi, going by Faerūnian Lore anyways.

I think an Earth Genasi is not the direct result of a union between a human and an earth creature. He Is a descendant of an ancestral union, like an Aasimar or a Tiefling.

I don't think Half Earth ELemental is a template only for a son of a creature with a Earth Elemental template. I mean...if I cross a human and a standard Earth Elemental, the result if a creature with 1/2 of Human Blood and 1/2 of Earth Elemental Blood...a Half Earth Elemental I guess.

It's why I don't understand when, the son of a human-elemental couple is a Half Elemental or a Stonechild.

I'd assume the half-earth elemental is just that. A being with a mortal parent and an elemental parent (mechanically the mortal race with the half-elemental template)

So that's a half-earth elemental anyway. Sadly I dunno what a stonechild is =(. I'd guess it's something like the saint in the book of exalted deeds which is a being that is of celestial ancestry, but not enough so to be a half-celestial but moreso then the aasimar IIRC.

I said eventually. Dao bring Earth Genasi after several generations, Djinni bring Air Genasi after the same, Efreeti bring Fire Genasi in a similar amount of time, and Jinni(I think) bring Water Genasi.

I think that stonechildren depend on a higher level of Elementals than the standard Earth Elementals, probably the immediate descendent of Dao, like Light Colonel said.
