| nonsi09-05-07, 05:44 PM | Anyone has a clue how to start with +0 LA and break its 6 racial class levels into 4 LA steps while progressing as a "Stonechild Paragon" ingame ? And why would a race with innate Darkvision have Blind-Fight as a racial feat ?! |

| Shadowhowler09-06-07, 02:00 PM | Nope. Stonechildren don't seem to playable to me. Two hit dice of outsider plus 6 racial levels... ugh. |
| Tedronai09-06-07, 08:51 PM | It's 2 HD and a +4 lvl adj, which can be played at 1st level by using the monstrous progression (which gives you 2 HD over 6 levels, and spreads the other benefits relatively evenly over those levels.) The race is definitely better in a game that starts after at least level 12, preferably later than that, but it is far from 'unplayable' if used properly. |

Maybe... but it would sure be a sad character. Very strong, but lacking big time in skills and feats. I mean, 6 levels, 2 HD (d8's no less) It has amazing stat bounes, but would get POUNDED be an avarge 6th level Fighter or Barbarian. I liked the idea of the Stonechild when I first read it... but in practice, it would be a pretty sad thing. |
| Einvaldurinn_mikli09-08-07, 05:26 PM | I'll whip up an alternate Stone Child savage progression for you, one that doesn't suck balls. Shouldn't take me more then ten minutes. Level Base Attack Saves HD Special 1. +1 +2/+2/+2 1D8 +2 Strength, +1 Natural Armor, Outsider Traits 2. +2 +3/+3/+3 2D8 +2 Constitution, +1 Natural Armor, Magic Stone 1/day 3. +2 +3/+3/+3 2D8 Heroic Spirit +1, +2 Strength, +2 Constitution 4. +3 +3/+3/+3 3D8 +1 Natural Armor, Magic Stone 2/day, +2 Intelligence 5. +4 +4/+4/+4 4D8 +1 Natural Armor, +2 Strength, Blind Fight 6. +4 +4/+4/+4 4D8 Heroic Spirit +2, +2 Strength, +2 Constitution, Magic Stone 3/day Racial Features: Base speed 30 feet. Darkvision +2 Con, -2 Charisma Immunity to Acid and Poison. Heroic Spirit: Destined for greatness, your heroic spirit protects you from harm. For HD related effects and spells, such as Cloudkill, Blasphemy and other harmful effects but not for skill ranks, feat selections or other similar things, your HD is treated as it were higher then it really is by the bonus indicated on the table. Sorry for how rough this is, as I said, this only took me ten minutes and it shows. The effects should be pretty clear though, you shouldn't suck and you shouldn't overpower the rest of the party at all. |
| Jaxgaret09-08-07, 05:54 PM | Hmm, at a cursory glance, that looks like a decent conversion, EM. The Stonechild as written is nice but underpowered. I would love to play one - it's one of the few strong monstrous races that doesn't get horrible mental penalties. |
| Einvaldurinn_mikli09-08-07, 06:12 PM | Hmm, at a cursory glance, that looks like a decent conversion, EM. That is definitely not my best work, but it's very playable. I'd ballpark it at Barbarian level of power. It's racial bonuses to Strength and Con are giving it roughly the same benefits as Raging sixth level Barbarian. It has slightly less HP and roughly the same damage potential (PA that extra BAB away) and while always on, it's down a feat(two if the barbarian is human) and skill ranks. It's also lost out on some other neat class features. So all in all, I'd say this is balanced. |
